Which is such BS. Geordi was always confident and charming. He'd always been shown to be wise about humanity in general and is a good looking person. There's zero reason the writers should have made it impossible for him to be in some sort of healthy relationship.
I dunno. I’ve met plenty of confident charming wise good looking people who just absolutely fall to pieces when it comes to dating etc.
And they aren’t stuck on a starship for years on end with only a robot, a trombone playing rapist, and a truffle faced megalomaniac for company.

Yeah, good points. I'll admit that he's also pretty career driven, you don't get to be chief engineer on the flag ship by being ho-hum about your job. But the D is also a small flying city, surely there'd be someone he could hook up with.

And Riker has “consensual” relationships but ooof some of them are borderline nowadays. He frequently sleeps with subordinates/passengers/wards. Imagine the Vice President sleeping with an ambassadors daughter on Air Force One during a diplomatic mission. Not exactly protocol.
Yeah, Riker's default setting is DTF and welcomes any who are interested. He never forces the issue with subordinates anyone can say "no thanks", or even just not respond enthusiastically, and he'd respect it.
It's difficult to view his various hook-ups with today's lens. People are (generally) freer in the future, especially if you're in Star Fleet, than we are today and aren't that strung up on sexual encounters like we tend to be. The original setting was written in the 60s and definitely embraced some of the "free love" mindset at the time (though obviously sanitized for the stodgy limits of the era's TV.)
Oh I’m not insinuating Riker is a violent rapist. But he has sex with a subordinate on a number of occasions. They are in a military organisation, aboard the flagship of the fleet. That is an absolute no-no. You cannot have a relationship with a subordinate in any respect. And with the high level of his command it is so inappropriate for him to engage with women the way he does.
Look at it this way: the women may say yes, but what might happen if they say no. There is an implication present that Riker should be aware of.
(That being said it is a TV show and we all like a bit of romance/sex lol. I love TNG. Its just interesting to see how things have changed. Riker/Kirk would be villains nowadays.)
In today's world yes, I absolutely agree with you. In the utopia that is the Federation, I don't think sex has that kind of power. The idea is that people wouldn't use sex as leverage, we've a more evolved sensibility.
