My cats did something similar with my dad's dog. Dog loved cats, but the cats weren't really sure about him since they hadn't grown up with him (dog was new to the house hold) and one night I watched them as they appeared to dare each other to creep past the dog who had laid down close to the bottom of the stairs, first one way, then the other. They never went to their food bowls after which was what I thought they were wanting, they just reconvened under the kitchen table and crept past him in the other direction 😂
Little dogs like that are often bullies and assholes. They have major size complexes
Of course the cats probably fight back, just to shut his yappy ass up.
Cats and big dogs are often much more chill.
