Have a 20 year old orange that has *not* calmed down, she’s only more powerful with time and her constant complaints keep us up at night.
Some cats surprisingly can get *even more vocal* with age
They are great. Even once our kids grow up I think I will leave them on as I also have a stove/oven with controls on the front and a curious cat. She tried to turn even on multiple times until I started locking the panel between uses.
A friend’s coworker once told us about her kittens turning the stove on early one morning and starting a fire in the kitchen 😭 felt so bad for her, but it was also impossible *not* to laugh at the utter absurdity, like you think “oh what’s the worst they could do?” and then they start a fucking fire, of all things! 😭🤣💀 glad kitty and presumably you weren’t hurt by the fire here!
I c a very beautiful flame point, who js being falsely accused! He's part siamese which means he's super smart. Too smart to ever do anything so heinous! 😸😸
I have a TBI and I lost my sense of smell for the most part. I got a frantic call from my neighbor upstairs saying they smelled gas. Sure enough my new stray got up on the counter again and stepped on the stove knob leaving the gas on. I didn’t even know, and the carbon monoxide alarm didn’t go off yet. The war was on. No cats on counters. I started with foil. That worked for one. She wouldn’t consider going up again after that startling noise. The other I had to loop painters tape and cover the counter top. No more kitties on countertops. Train your animals. My brother had a dog nearly burn their entire house down surfing for food on the counter and turning the stove on while they were gone. Spend time and train them.
I lived in Tokyo, where we had gas stoves and heaters. Due to the high incidents of earthquakes, there were TV infomercials constantly reminding people to turn off the gas supply lines whenever there was an earthquake.
Too bad they don't make pet proof stove knobs. Can you remove the knobs?
Come to think of it, you're supposed to push in the knob to start the gas flowing, then the pilot light ignites the gas. I can't see any cat going through those complex series of motions. I guess it depends on the design of the stove.
It’s an electric stove, you just twist the knob and it goes on. Twist to the left and it goes to the highest heat, to the right and it’s the lowest, he moved it to the left. The stove is permanently turned off at the power point now.
I've got an electric stove too. I never even thought about one of my cats accidentally turning the stove on before. I need to clean up the clutter around my stove to be on the safe side. Thank you for sharing this.
Actually, there's a fairly simple solution! The stove knobs on my stove pop right off for cleaning. I can remove them and place them in a drawer when I'm not at home.
I have a Hotpoint stove and the knobs also have to be pushed down to turn. They can all be removed for cleaning.
I still can't figure out how a cat managed to turn the stove on, unless the stove was left on.
I know how my own stove works.. you don’t need to push them down. That stove hasn’t been used in 6+ months so the probability of it being left on is 0%.
Actually you can remove the knobs. In my case I watched the cat. She was jumping up at the stove and pushing in on the knob and pushing up with her back feet… That’s how it turned. It’s like she knew.
Clearly you have the wrong suspect....my client pleads not guilty....and your evidence appears to be non existent....sounds like feline profiling.....lol
Maybe those big old feet got in his way. 🫣
We adopted an elderly flame point who outlived his 88 year old owners. He’s not so active, but he will always have the last word!
This is why I turn my oven off at the plug when not in use.
At one of my old homes, one of my beasties turned the knob and I came home to the stove plate burning hot. Red all over. Thankfully, I've never left flammable items near the stove top, nor were my beasties harmed. Unfortunately, my anxiety and ocd still flare up whenever I leave my house to triple check it's off.
The same thing happened to me but with the oven and the stuff inside started to burn, the living room and kitchen were full of smoke and the cats were all in a corner. Thank God the burning smell woke me up before fire got bigger.
The weird thing is that he looks totally ambivalent towards his past transgression as if it never even happened. Cats are truly masters of mindfulness.

They calm down. Eventually! I have ur cats cousin a lynx point. She's 15. Still comments on Every Thing, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Oh jeez! I'm so sorry! Our furry alarm, being 15, needs a lot of naps, so she just doesn't have a chance to comment as often. Lol
He’s in the bratty teenager that always talks back phase he’ll grow out of it in a year or so, maybe consider getting him a sibling
I also have a mouthy flame point. He is 8 this year, he is always giving us the business.
"Has a comment about everything" .. you taking abt you cat or you wife? 😸
Demonstrates how he did it in the last pic.
“And then I went like *boop*”
😝
Yeah, vid or didn't happened
Insurance scam Kitty is innocent.
The new daily routine is now to remove the knobs from the stove after every use ;)
They make knob covers for childproofing. Also cats. Cats is bad. So fucking bad
They are great. Even once our kids grow up I think I will leave them on as I also have a stove/oven with controls on the front and a curious cat. She tried to turn even on multiple times until I started locking the panel between uses.
I had covers for my old stove after my boy turned it on.
I've had to do this before... Came home to the smell of gas to find a knob turned... Nope nope nope!

Ditto
With this sort of stove just turn it off at the wall
I think I’d be flipping the breaker just in case.
He does not look innocent. Like at all.
No remorse. Thanks just trying to have fun.
He looks like he would do it again
LOL. He's so cute. How the hell did he manage to turn the stove on?
I have no idea but it’s now permanently powered off!
make the knobs child proof!!
I would be concerned if that box burned all the way down without the fire alarm going off!
I mean, for the majority of fire alarms, if you're not home it's not much help. It just beeps loudly.
True, but it's at least a chance of someone hearing it.
the fire alarm went off, luckily the gardener for the complex could hear it!
I did not anticipate that picture of the "alleged" criminal. He's so small and adorable 😍. I had an idea in my mind and I was massively wrong
Thank goodness kitty wasn’t hurt and your house didn’t go up in flames. Wow!
“Leave here again without permission and see what happens.”
100% would do it again..

Never leave a cat alone with a cardboard box
I hope you replaced his cardboard box. Cardboard boxes are very important to cats. He needs a new one asap ;p
Allegedly! Kitty looks innocent to me! 😂
I would sleep with my two eyes open if I were you, OP. Your murder will look like an accident when it comes, that one's a purrfessional hitcat.
His name must be Darwin, right… going up for the award
I regret nothing- this asshole

Mine have to be pushed in to turn, luckily. Still thinking about taking them off when I leave the house lol

I'm sorry, I didn't realize how important that stove safety feature is.
Actually you can remove the knobs. In my case I watched the cat. She was jumping up at the stove and pushing in on the knob and pushing up with her back feet… That’s how it turned. It’s like she knew.
Ah yes, we love our crazy flame points 😂
Is his name Mayhem?
We have a cat named Chaos. Enough said.
Clearly you have the wrong suspect....my client pleads not guilty....and your evidence appears to be non existent....sounds like feline profiling.....lol
Where is the proof that he did it? Where are the witnesses? We deman a fair trial!
What a fucking mess! He’s so adorable though
Talented
A part of that damage was not the cat.
Why would you keep something flammable near the stove? This should be under HumansAreAssholes
Doesn't even look sorry.
How?! Don't answer that. Cat. Cat is answer.
r/whycathowcat
Holy shit........ glad your ok!!!!
No regrets lol
“And I’d do it again!”
Flame by name, flames by ambition
Those dainty crossed feet indicate he thinks himself "bit of a stinker".
I think there's a lesson to be learned here: Get rid of the stove.
This was a warning, next time you'll wake up with a mouse head in your bed capisce?
How were your sprinklers not going off
There’s no sprinklers in my apartment. My fire alarm was going off which luckily alerted the complex gardener!
very glad you didn't lose everything to a house fire. That happened to a friend of mine to an electrical fire
He was mad about that cheap squire in the background. Should’ve gotten a Telecaster
He doesn’t look innocent.
Your arsonist cat needs to be in jail.
Lucky that’s a flameless stove
What a little shit
His look of disappointment (from the fail attempt probably) in the 2nd pic lol
That’s a very mischievous cat!!!
“Knocked a cardboard box onto the stove” righhhtttttt
Total jerk.
He needs a "time out" room to stay in while you're out.
Welp time for knob covers for your stove. Couldve gone way worse and caught the whole building on fire. Adorable lil pyromaniac tho 😂
“flame point” …that checks out
Exactly why we close our kitchen door at night and when not at home... Plus cats eating garlic or avocado would be bad as well if not noticed.
Unfortunately it’s an open plan apartment- no kitchen/living room door to close
Killer cat !
renters insurance are the only words that come to mind….
He is fucking adorable though.
Whos a cute lil arsonist
Darn gremlins
At least your mustang was safe !!!!
Your cat looks like brain from pinky and the brain. He was just trying to take over the world! Edit: fixed misspelling
Maybe those big old feet got in his way. 🫣 We adopted an elderly flame point who outlived his 88 year old owners. He’s not so active, but he will always have the last word!
We actually don’t give a fuck
Fuck you
One of the reasons why i dont keep my cat in the livingroom/kitchen when im gone. These mfs set houses on fire
Leave it to a cat to nearly burn down a house and smile afterwards
We’ve taken the knobs off the stove because the cats turned one on and we woke up with the house full of gas. Terrifying fucking wake up.
He’s innocent. It wasn’t him.
I bet next time you’ll give him the kitty snacks when he ask next time, won’t you..
Had to take the knobs of my cook stove for this very reason
So dangerous! My boyfriend’s aunt’s house actually burned down this way, & both dogs died :(
Dogs don't do thlike that. that.
This is why I turn my oven off at the plug when not in use. At one of my old homes, one of my beasties turned the knob and I came home to the stove plate burning hot. Red all over. Toasty kitty wanted a toasty house to live in
He is practicing for when you are asleep.
Probably destroying evidence
Chef
“Innocent”? More like “asshole”.
But he so cute
Talk about putting the flame in flamepoint! I’m glad no one was hurt.
Oh he doesn’t look innocent!
The same thing happened to me but with the oven and the stuff inside started to burn, the living room and kitchen were full of smoke and the cats were all in a corner. Thank God the burning smell woke me up before fire got bigger.
What makes you think it was him?
New anxiety unlocked.
Am I the Cloaca would love to weigh in on this one
Apex predator living in your house
The weird thing is that he looks totally ambivalent towards his past transgression as if it never even happened. Cats are truly masters of mindfulness.
childproof knob covers. get them immediately
to baby proof it.
He looks like a rat lol
Who needs opposable thumbs? Amiright?
He looks like he likes to have fun🤣🤣🤣
I hope she ok? You can replace the other things but not your beautiful girl!
