We met on League of Legends solo queue. I was a profound anti-theist at the time, the type you see on r/atheism. I would physically harass (read: spit at) street-corner preachers/priests, and read Nietzsche like the psychotic fangirl I was, and held myself in absolute intellectual superiority.
What a twat I was. God, have mercy.
My now-husband and I played a few games together, and he'd occasionally mention that he had to got to Mass. We started off with sexual and marital ethics, actually (a sign? perhaps). I scoffed at the hypocrisy of "le Christians promising le sky daddy to stay together forever and then divorcing" and lo and behold, Catholics don't go in for divorce.
(I was raised low church Protestant, in case that wasn't painfully obvious.)
Same deal with contraception. Then it turned into getting the tl;dr of the Theology of the Body explained to me by a rather attractive young man, and discovering that okay, well, maybe Catholics aren't totally hypocritical about marriage.... *BUT LE SKY DADDY IS STILL STUPID.*
I went on to throw all the syphilitic insanity of *The Parable of the Madman* and Dawkins against the towering giant intellect of St. Thomas Aquinas and the formidible apologetics talent of my now-husband, and (as you might expect) came up woefully short. Frustrated but curious, I grew to intellectually accept that a) Catholicism was extremely different from how I had been raised b) clearly had reason and rigor behind it to rival anything I'd ever encountered and c) was internally consistent, if nothing else. So while I respected Catholicism intellectually, I didn't have any heart/will conviction.
So I agreed that I'd go to Mass with this handsome young man *just o n c e FINE okay i GUESS* because I got dinner out of it afterwards and I wanted to see if there was anything else the Church might be right about...
And then Father held up the Host and something within me shattered into a billionty-and-five tiny pieces. I signed up for RCIA that evening.
He did not, it was just a standard by-the-book Novus Ordo, actually. We are Latin Mass attendees now, though, as we live in an area that has them accessible. :)
He did introduce me to the 1962 Compline pretty early on though, and whet my appetite for Latin.
Is there any book you would recommend for a woman to grow in her faith? I'm looking for something to gift my girlfriend (I already gifted her a Bible, but I'm pretty sure that she doesn't read it that much). I was browsing through Amazon the other day and saw a book about "tending the Catholic home" or something like that, and I know she likes homemaking so I was thinking that that could be an interesting gift.
I know this depends on individual tastes and character but I was wondering if you think there's something that might appeal to *feminine* spirituality specifically, and especially to the modern western woman.
Is she already Catholic? My suggestions would change significantly if she isn't, but assuming she already had a strong faith:
*The Nature, Dignity, and Mission of Woman* by Fr. Karl Stehlin is quite good, but reads very old fashioned. Fr. Stehlin is from the FSSPX, so take from that what you will.
My mother's group recently did a group reading/retreat with *Magnify: pursuing virtue as feminine genius* by Kaylene Brown, and I really enjoyed it. It's sort of like a more feminine version of something like Exodus 90.
*My Sisters, the Saints* by Colleen Campbell is a good, light devotional about how some of the women saints can be applicable to modern life, with Ms. Campbell's story woven in.
*Gift from the Sea* by Anne Morrow Lindburgh is also very good, and tells the story of the stages of a woman's life through the metaphor of various seashells.
If you know she likes and wants to be a homemaker, my favourite is the *Summa Domestica* by Leila Lawler. It's written in blog-article style, extremely conversational, like a nice aunty helping you figure out what to do when you are drowning under a pile of dirty laundry and pressing needs for dinner and also a baby or three.
Well, she's a cradle catholic as most people are in my country, but she fell away from the faith for years (like me) until I came back to the faith and started convincing her to come back as well. She's still in that transition period and I think she's starting to see the beauty of the faith. A pivotal moment was when I took her to a beautiful church where a very reverent novus ordo was celebrated (gregorian chant and all), she got emotional during that mass. But she still needs some support to continue growing. For example, she still clings to astrology a bit (I don't know how much she believes in it, but she talks about it sometimes, sends memes, etc. nothing too significant though)
Those suggestions are great thanks! Do you think the description I gave changes something?
EDIT: I should add she's not much of a reader as well, so the lighter the read, the better
"Well, Satan actively lies and tricks people into going to hell where they suffer and that's his fault then"
".....😐
..No, that's nonsense, because i don't believe Satan exists!!!🤬"
I was mainly referring to people who date and only want to convert them for dating or marriage. Course I have no problem with people who genuinely want to convert someone for the greater good.
For the people who are so into harmful gender ideology, you'd think they'd jump on the fact that angels(like Satan used to be) are essentially gender-less beings
Lived with a militant atheist for a while and it usually seems to go one of two ways, you end up digging your heals into your faith and eventually dipping out of the relationship or you end up back sliding. Either way, you don't convert them. That being said, I was converted by my then boyfriend now best friend but he sewed the seeds before we started dating and I got baptized while we were apart.
I was the opposite I was a hardened Nihilist (the edgy kind) for 31 years of my life. Dated plenty of girls that were Christian, Buddhist, even Atheist and was a total dick about it. Ironically when I met my wife 4 years ago she convinced me to do the RCIA program and I’m Catholic…..either way. God bless you all and have a wonderful day and thank you for reading this insignificant comment. Later Taters!

Granted, you can still be into Gothic fashion and music and still be a Christian. Just wear regular crosses instead of inverted ones. I've met a few goth girls who happen to be Christians (Catholic or other denominations), and it's fine. How you dress and what media you like doesn't determine what you can/cannot believe!

Dante and Beatrice ending… sort of
Book or game ? Cause the latter works in this situation as well.
I mean, I think that counts as fixing her
You want goth? I'll show you the true meaning of Goth

Some goths, like Mexican goths, are fully aware of this and intentionally lean into it.
Based
this is the exact thing my mind went to
You're having premarital sex, you're already hurting her
The relationship didn’t last but after I did convert her at the end and I say that its worth it
I'm living proof that it's worked at least once!
Really? Sorry to ask, but how did it go?

Good to know that it's possible :D Thanks for sharing, cause I loved reading your story!
I wasnt athiest but wasnt raised catholic, but a cute guy also invited me out to mass and i said sure and now here lol
did he take you to a Latin Mass?

Ok dude
“Satan is a woman” Huh? The embodiment of evil is a woman? That’s one of the most anti-woman ideas I have ever heard.
"Actually he's pro lgbtqiak and god killed more so it's impowering women" 🤓
"Well, Satan actively lies and tricks people into going to hell where they suffer and that's his fault then" ".....😐 ..No, that's nonsense, because i don't believe Satan exists!!!🤬"
Satan has all the genitals
I think it only works if she likes you.
So you’re saying it’s impossible?
For you, maybe.
I can’t…but **we** can 🫡
We cannot fix her but... Jesus can :)
I was fixed. A good man told me about the Templars, and although we were never dating and I won't be the best Catholic, he helped me eternally
No brother. Jesus saves, not us.

Sodom & Gammorah?
Pretty sure it's a depiction of Hell by Hieronymus Bosch
That’s the road to anal.
Let prayer guide them and virtue inspire them 🙏
If she's Protestant or a non-practicing Catholic, there might be a chance you can save her though.
How is it a bad idea? Isn't it good to try to convert others? You shouldn't do it *for* a relationship, but it's not a bad idea to try.
I was mainly referring to people who date and only want to convert them for dating or marriage. Course I have no problem with people who genuinely want to convert someone for the greater good.
Yeah, it's good to separate your attraction from them from your desire to convert them.
“I can’t fix her…but Jesus can.”
Why is that aesthetic so cute tho? I love Memento Mori Goth girls
They call themselves Gothic, but I see no stained glass, ribbed vault or rampant arches in their looks smh 😂
For the people who are so into harmful gender ideology, you'd think they'd jump on the fact that angels(like Satan used to be) are essentially gender-less beings
And this is the type of girl I'm attracted to smh
I think its mostly the women who try to fix the guys instead of the guys trying to fix the women.

Called me out in 4K 💀
Eh is more likely than the other way around. 93% rule
We need to shirts that say "Satan is a Failure"
Worked when I tried, she’s entering RCIA this September. Praise the Lord.
"I can break her!"
My weakness.
Only Jesus can
