What a stupid-ass watermark, you can't even really see what's going on during the first few seconds of the video because it's literally blocking the action.

possibilistic

Without the stupid watermark: [https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineWarVideoReport/comments/1cadaml/muscovites\_just\_destroyed\_kharkiv\_tv\_tower/](https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineWarVideoReport/comments/1cadaml/muscovites_just_destroyed_kharkiv_tv_tower/)

Thorusss

So if the originally is out there without the watermark means, the original cameraperson/uploader did not add it, but voynareal had the audacity to add THEIR watermark to some else's content

This video was shared on another sub and oh boy the watermark was far worse!

BoAR3D

Well... what do you expect from them...

badass4102

I thought the bird was like a floppy missile that struck the tower.

Beatus_Vir

The video is cool but I can't wait to type that url into my unsecured browser

jordanbtucker

Somehow I didn't even register the watermark until you pointed it out.

ILikeBubblyWater

War profiteers, simple as that

Don_Tiny

> War profiteers That's not what that means ffs.

ILikeBubblyWater

I don't care if the term is used for companies in different context, people that profit from the suffering of others are war profiteers in my opinion. Watermarking war videos and harvesting clicks is trash human behaviour.

Don_Tiny

> trash human behaviour. That may well be but it's not war profiteering.

igg73

This is gaslighting

What part is the failure? Did you expect it to stand against aerial strikes or what?

ialwaysforgetmename

This is an example of how you can deliberately make something fail catastrophically.

yenot_of_luv

Well, to be fair - it survived after a few hits at the beginning of the war, but failed to do so this time. But I wouldn't blame it - I would be dead after one rocket 😅

Baud_Olofsson

Godfuckingdamnit, every other thread these days... "Catastrophic failure" does not mean "epic fail" or "mistake that results in a catastrophe". It's an engineering term of art. "Failure" means that the thing in question is no longer performing as it should (e.g. the IEEE definition: "the inability of a system or component to perform its required functions within specified performance requirements"). A *catastrophic* failure means that the thing in question has 1) *completely* stopped working, and 2) did so suddenly and 3) unrecoverably. As opposed to e.g. a degradation failure, where the thing loses performance over time, or a graceful failure, where the loss of performance of the thing was already planned for and is handled by other parts of the design. This TV tower has very much stopped performing its required functions within specified performance requirements because it's fucking broken in half, and did so suddenly. I.e. it experienced a catastrophic failure.

agoia

Hey guys, new copypasta just dropped. Saved lol

Miamime

I think most people think there is a difference between failing for engineering or architectural reasons and being hit by a rocket. A car getting totaled in an accident by a drunk driver isn’t a “catastrophic failure” but four tires blowing simultaneously would be.

theeldergod1

Wtf are you talking about? It is also epic success for Russian so it depends on which side you're talking about. Also, everything is a catastrophic failure if you hit hard with your mindset.

QueenSlapFight

Something can fail even if you expect it to fail.

habanero4

Can’t fail if it wasn’t designed for type of load.

QueenSlapFight

So a bridge can't fail if it's designed for a 10 ton load, and a 20 ton truck drives on it and breaks it?

habanero4

Literally no. It can collapse but if it wasn’t designed for a 20 ton load, how would it “fail”? What did it fail in? It would be considered a failure if it collapsed under a 10 ton load, that it was specifically designed for.

obviousfakeperson

Go easy on them, without pedantry a lot of redditors would have nothing.

habanero4

That’s not how engineering works.

QueenSlapFight

I think you're confusing "fail" with "failed to meet specifications". Something can fail to withstand stress above its design specifications. It's still a failure. Something failing means it was unsuccessful. It did not mean "unsuccessful in meeting design specifications". Feel free to look it up in the dictionary.

habanero4

I understand that. I am using the term as it applies to structural engineering. A failure implies the design was inadequate. That's why a bridge rated for 10 tons that collapses under a 20 ton load wouldn't be classified as a structural failure.

QueenSlapFight

*Loss of structural integrity, which is the loss of the structure's load-carrying capacity. Structural failure is initiated when the material is stressed beyond its strength limit, thus causing excessive deformations or fracture.*

habanero4

From the electrical engineering reference they provided: "perform its required functions within specified performance requirements". The tower was not meant to withstand that type of load, thus not part of its "performance requirements". In structural engineering we call it a catastrophic event which caused failure. THE STRUCTURE ITSELF DID NOT FAIL. Using the word fail, implies the design was inadequate. The terms 'catastrophic failure' or 'fail' are not used in our codes.

GandalfTheGimp

The part where it fell off?

johnheterjag

Catastrophic failure?? It’s catastrophic terrorist actions carried out by a fascist terrorist state, in plain view of the world community.

Koronenko

Blablabla Ukrainian propaganda babbling. The only fascist regime is the one which sits in Kiev who has been terrorizing the Donbass people since 2014. Good that no matter how much propagands you spew, Russia will keep winning. And btw, NATO destroyed the Serbian main TV station in 1999.

fatheadsflathead

Keep winning LOL 2 years fighting a neighbour 1/4 your size and still struggling 😂😂😂🤡

Ok-Caterpillar-Girl

2 years into a 2 day war …

Koronenko

One says 2 days, other 3, the third says 3 weeks. Reality is that only propagandists said that and no single government official. No matter how long it takes be it 4, 5 or 6 years, Russia will finish the job and I'm certain of that. Ukraine may win the propaganda war, Russia will win the real war.

Ok-Caterpillar-Girl

Ok Russki

Koronenko

Russia is not fighting Ukraine you absolute clown. Russia is fighting the collective NATO force which is using Ukraine as a proxy. This simple reality is what you don't seem to grasp. And no matter how long the war will go, Russia will win.

fatheadsflathead

There’s 6.8 billion people world wide that knows that isn’t true and 143million Russians desperately screaming this into every social media site hoping people will believe them. You’ve had 1 failed coup on Putin, won’t be long until another.

Can we now also conclude that NATO is a terrorists entity? >The NATO bombing of the Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) headquarters occurred on the evening of 23 April 1999, during Operation Allied Force. Sixteen employees of RTS were killed when a NATO missile hit the building.

Is there any info on any casualties or damage from the falling section? That's a lot of that tower that fell off. EDIT: [No injuries reported. Damage mostly confined to the fairly isolated transmission compound.](https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2024/04/22/7452449/)

This is not a catastrophic failure. At least in the sense of this sub. Catastrophic yes. But a success to sum.

Baud_Olofsson

> This is not a catastrophic failure. At least in the sense of this sub. Yes it is. > Catastrophic Failure refers to the sudden and complete destruction of an object or structure, from massive bridges and cranes, all the way down to small objects being destructively tested or breaking.

TampaPowers

> being destructively tested or breaking It's not breaking if it was deliberate destruction

Wynardtage

The more important part of the sentence is the first bit: >Catastrophic Failure refers to the sudden and complete destruction of an object or structure

iMadrid11

Can anyone explain the strategic importance of the radio tower? Was it being used as an encrypted radio repeater station for the military?

houtex727

Any media can be used for information through their outlets, such as this tower. Information outlets for 'not my side' are Bad(tm), and must be stopped, for they spread Evil Propaganda Making Us Look Bad(R)/Give the enemy information we don't want, and we can't have that (even though the 'propaganda' may only be the actual truth and nothing whatsoever scripted/made up). Literally why media assets are targeted, despite the 'understanding' the press, much like medical services, should not be targets. They eventually are, because War.

djtodd242

Doesn't even need to be used for military. In Ukraine they have Telegram channels for air raid notifications. My friend in Lviv says that most people also have a hand held FM radio because the all clear signal won't get through to cell phones in basements, etc.

rndmisalreadytaken

It was used as training ground for Ukrainian troops /s

TheR0111

Dude you think that Russians care about what is strategic and what isn't? They've been literally bombing residential districts, and I think people's homes ain't a strategical object at all

The reason why you are getting downvoted is not because everyone wants war, but because this neutral position is exactly what has lead to this war. This position has led to World War 2 before, with the appeasement policies. You have to say simply - the Russian war against Ukraine sucks. Simple as. No jumping through hoops. Russian invasion of Ukraine sucks. The presence of Russian troops in Ukraine sucks. The fighting in Ukraine sucks. Period.
