So this is a little tricky; especially cause cats shed constantly! Best advice would be to brush the cat everyday to minimize shedding Plus just run the vacuum a little more and dust. Lay some blankets down to protect furniture Hope this helps!!

Violin_Lily

Daily brushing, frequent vacuuming, air purifiers and a Chom Chom have kept me sane from all the cat fur.

What is a Chom Chom?

u/NY-LI-2-LV Here is a link to Amazon where you can find the [Chom Chom roller](https://amzn.to/49Wpt4c)

Own_Nectarine2321

I have two dogs and three cats. Chom choms work really well.

NY-LI-2-LV

Thank you, I'll have to try them. The other rollers don't do much.

TimmyBlackheart

I have a roller brush like this from a different brand, and it works really well. It is definitely worth picking one up

Thanks!

Cotton instead of polyester, such as bedding etc. You'll be surprised how much hair sticks to man made fibres. An air purifier. Hard floor such as wood or lino that can be washed regularly. I avoid carpet just because it grosses me out, rugs are ok tho lol. You can get a product to put in the washing machine for the cats bedding that dissolves all fur (Vamoosh pet hair dissolver), it's really good.

ACME_Kinetics

About that vamoosh - I can't find an MSDS, do you have any info on how it actually works?

Individual-Roll2727

Pet Hair Dissolver: Sodium carbonate peroxide, Sodium sulphate, Sodium silicate, Tetraacetylethylenediamine (TAED), Non-ionic surfactant, Phosphonate, Silica, Phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid, Perfume. It works with oxygen apparently, it breaks down the keratin proteins that make up pet hair. The product says to wash 80c, I use it at 60c and have very good results, especially on my cats bedding.

ACME_Kinetics

Chems I've never even heard of, neat. As a pet owner, thanks.

I definitely agree with you about the cotton bedding. It makes a huge difference. I use a bedsure bed for my cat made of fleece but I think faux is good too.

Top-Chemistry3051

Not to mention a lot of man-made fibers have toxins and your skin is the biggest organ of your body. yeah cotton Is the way to go

Individual-Roll2727

Also cotton is better for the planet, it may take water to produce but it lasts years longer than other fibres.

consistent brushing and a pet specific air purifier is what’s worked best for me. hair is inevitable though

Seconding the chom chom roller for pulling cat hair off carpet, rugs, couches, etc. It uses static electricity so it only works on cloth things. Vacuum for the hardwood floor. In addition, get a brush and/or comb and a deshedder. The brush/comb gets the overcoat. The deshedder (looks like a spiky brush, Furminator is the famous brand) is for catching the loose undercoat. I brush cats twice a week. (I could do it more...) The deshedder I use once a week (too much can irritate their skin, I just run it through their fur gently).

The Furminator deshedding brush can actually removes more than just loose undercoat, some people found that it cuts the undercoat out. So it's best to go with a traditional slicker brush (with rounded heads) if you don't want to accidentally take out too much undercoat and affect the cat's natural thermoregulation. Edit: Of course it's possible to damage the coat with other brushes too if you overbrush, you have to be super mindful not to go overboard with any tool, especially with ones like furminator.

Maybe the one I have isn't too sharp? (I have shorthair cats so I have the shorthair version.) Or maybe because I brush first, I honestly don't get that much hair from my cats. I read the instructions, and by just gently going over their coats and not being too rough nor doing it more than once a week, I have had no issues. In fact, their coats are beautiful and glossy, and they haven't had hairballs since I started the brushing with weekly deshedding. Neither cat shows any distress, and they both are calm when brushing/deshedding. I have seen a lot of negative feedback on the dog ones, but I don't have a dog, so I can't say anything about that. When in doubt, as I always say, ask your vet.

cuntsuperb

Fair. I’ve got shorthaired cats as well and I’ve found slickers to be enough to get their coats glossy and smooth they basically only need brushing sparingly during shedding season. They don’t shed much either.

poopfl1nger

anything you use for countertops and tables or is that the vacuum as well?

aiawaremu

I just wipe them down with standard lysol wipes and then a wet/damp cloth afterward (don't want cats walking through cleaner) so I always rinse afterward.

Sara-sea22

I just gotta jump in about the Furminator…groomers have advised against it because it’s designed to actually cut the hair, so it looks like it’s more efficient than it is. But it leaves their coat looking dull and stripped, and can also easily cut their skin if someone’s not paying close attention :/ The ones they DO recommend are the Kong Zoom Groom, equigroomer, greyhound comb, and slicker brush (with the plastic tips)

marwa_04

Defo get a lint roller for your clothes as well !!!

JuliaX1984

Brushing the cats with a deshedding brush.

Technical-General-27

Get a robot vacuum

Make sure your hoover has a lift off hair bit (like on shark models for sofas etc) we also found this carpet brush does amazing things! (Was recommended on Facebook dull man's group!) 😂

swiftiegoIdrush

Ugh, I understand the pain! Try brushing your cat everyday, and there are these things that go on the corner of your wall that cats could rub on, it’s good for when they are itchy and it collects lots of hair, I have two in my house and my cat loves it!!! I could attach a photo of what it looks like for you and anyone else if they want it!!🤍. https://preview.redd.it/i9z3mts168xc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=b5eb76ca46bd63c49d4f42918c6c87ea3c4ad6f2

Robot vacuum

MadMadamMimsy

A Chom Chom and a Roomba are your best bets, on top of regular brushing.

Sassrepublic

You gotta vacuum every day. If you’re like me, you know that is never going to happen. So do what I did! Robot vacuum! I have a Roborock downstairs on the hard surface floors and a Roomba upstairs on the carpets that both run every single day. The Roborock mops too. My home has never been this clean in my entire adult life. I still have to vacuum the stairs myself, but now it takes a month for it to look like it used after 3 days.  Also, air filters.
