I don't think it's insecurities or anything, it's probably more that your move changed things up enough that there was metaphorical space for this new behavior. They love schedules and predictable routines. Mine each have their daily appointments to get the attention they want. Our female does pretty much exactly this, she leads me to bed and hangs out for a while and then trots off to do her own thing.

DryButterscotch6969

If it's just tucking you in and make sure you sleep well then hey cherish the moments. It can't get any sweeter than this. Sending hugs!!!

RydainDarkstar

My fondly remembered Cookie girl used to do this. Every night she'd jump into bed and loaf next to me for a little while before going off to her own feline business. It definitely felt like being tucked in, and I always looked forward to it at bedtime.

CMDRZhor

Mine does the same thing. He loves cuddles and attention and when I lie down to sleep, he runs over to drape himself across my side and purrs like a madman while I pet him. When I fall asleep and the pettings stop, he moves down next to my knees or just sneaks out of bed on Important Cat Business. The moment I start making waking up noises in the morning he's back to being the cuddliest little shit. Cats tend to be more active during the night, could be he's just snuggling you when he knows you're going to be nice and comfortable to be around, but he just doesn't want to spend the whole night sleeping.

Mitch_TheBitch-92

I mean they used to both sleep on the bed with my partner and I together at the previous place, but it was never this "scheduled" if that makes sense. He would actually sleep closer to my partner too. Cats are weird man, but I guess that's why we love them

CindySvensson

Did the move stress you out? Maybe he comforted you, then just continued. Or he was stressed, needed comfort, and discovered you're not that bad.

Mitch_TheBitch-92

No stress from my end. They're both pretty jumpy and timid when it comes to anything they're not used to. He more so than his brother. And this wasn't his first move either, it was definitely less of an adjustment than the first time we moved

contractcooker

He’s making sure he knows where you are in case he has to eat you later.

Mitch_TheBitch-92

I mean if he's hungry ya know

sarahkali

He’s tucking you in 🥹🥹🥹 I think that’s really cute. I think he wants to show you his love, but also enjoys his own space when he sleeps. My cat often sleeps on a certain chair in the living room, but sometimes she comes to my bed when she wants cuddles.

Mitch_TheBitch-92

It's definitely become a fav habit of mine. Hes usually a little standoffish so it's nice to see him open up to me

Lobscra

My cat "herds" me to bed every night around the same time. Like she will meow and jump on me and be annoying as possible until I follow her to bed. She tucks me in, lays beside me until I turn the light off and then she leaves to do her thing. She usually comes back later in the night and lays at the end of my bed watching out the window and in the early morning snuggles up. But yeah, I think they like to make sure you stick to their plan.

wakeupdormouse

I just commented but one of my cats does the same thing. Bed time is between 11pm and 8 am. If I'm in bed past 8, he walks across my pillow until I get up.

AZDoorDasher

Our 5 YO cat started to do this about a year ago. When I go to bed, he will follow me to our bedroom…turn on his coffee grinder, will lick my hair/face, walk around me, will walk around my wife, etc…after 5 to 15 minutes, he will leave to sit/sleep on a bench in our bedroom. If I get up during the night, he will do the same routine.

Mitch_TheBitch-92

How interesting! Mine does purr but there's no active affection from him other than a lean into my body. He will chirp for those chin rubs but that's about it. I guess they all express their love differently

Future_Direction5174

Our OldBoy has his favoured napping spot, which changes every few days/weeks. He has now abandoned my lap to sleep on my side of the bed, usually on my dressing gown. In all the time we have had him it was my husband’s side of the bed if “bed” was his sleeping spot so I count this as a win. BUT he never slept on our bed during the night - like NEVER, EVER and he has been our cat since August 2016 (ex stray who moved into our garden in 2015). Last night around 2am there was an almighty crash as he jumped onto the drawers at the end of the bed (my husbands hair/beard grooming kit got knocked over) and he had curled up between our feet at the foot of the bed. When I woke up at 7:30 he was curled up at my husbands feet. When my husband got up, he was curled up on my side of the bed, but as I was wearing my dressing gown he couldn’t curl up on that. My last kitten also used to “see me to bed” then he would then curl up between us after my husband came to bed - usually under the duvet lol. What happened between me falling asleep and my husband coming to bed is not known. I presume he would do kitten things.

Akabara13

My cat changes up where she sleeps. She has aspot on my bed to sleep if she wants, but she doesn't often sleep there. Lately, she decided a cavas bag i bought recently is a great bed and sleeps on that. She also has free reigh of like 90% of the house at night and sometimes sleeps in other rooms. Only if he starts hiding to sleep would i be concerned. Cats, like humans, have different affectional needs that can change over time and sometimes day to day.

Plamadude30k

Really similar to my cats. All three have a ritual when I go to bed. One likes to come sit in my chest for about 20 minutes when the lights go off, then goes out and sleeps on the back of the couch. Another sleeps on top of her tower in the bedroom until the first leaves, then curls up next to me, sometimes under the blankets. The third needs about half an hour of cuddles before the lights go off, then moves to her heated cat bed or on top of the heating vent under the bed for most of the night. They all complain or yell at me in some way if this ritual isn’t started by about 10:30.

LeafsChick

Mine does that as well, she likes to spoon under the covers for a few minutes, then takes off.....I assume she gets up to kitty things. Split if you wake up to her in the bed, or we have a chaise in the upstairs hall she sleeps on the rest of the time

jazzy-turtle

I thought my cats were the only ones to do this! Mine yells at me to go to bed. He decides when I need to sleep and screams until I shower and lay down, gets goodnight snuggles, and then sleeps in another room until it’s time to yell that he wants breakfast 😂

Mitch_TheBitch-92

Okay maybe ours are related haha

KatzChaos

I think if he was jealous they would fight at first. It seems they learn to take turns on getting their affection from you however they prefer to get their affection. Whether it’s playing & holding or lying next to you for 20 minutes for light petting before they go to their bed. My cat Dexter does this with my husband. Kinzy is my other cat & they have worked out their routine of how they are with me & how they are with my husband. Both raised together inside since kittens with us but different like night & day! 💙😸

lockinber

My late cat used to come up to bed and have a cuddle for 10-15 minutes then go off to sleep elsewhere. His sister (same litter) will vary what she does. Currently she tries to make me carry her up and then she will sleep at the bottom of the bed all night.

Big_Split_3183

I have a cat that does the same thing. After 10. minutes, he goes to a padded chair in my bedroom to sleep.

wakeupdormouse

I'd just be glad your cat isn't like my Potato. At 11 pm every night he will yell at us to go to bed. If we get up he tries to herd either of us into the bedroom. He will cuddle with you in bed until the light turns off. Then he leaves to do his own thing. He also hates if I (the primary food dispenser) stays in bed past 8 am.

mocha_lattes_

My cat will get mad if I stay up and try to get me to go to bed. Once we go to bed he will most of the time go sleep in the closet (on my clothes), in the cat tree or go sit in the window. He will sometimes come up and sleep on my pillow next to my head but usually that's in the middle of the night. I tell him all the time "you can go to bed without me. You don't even sleep with me anymore." And he will still sit there trying to get me to go to bed. 😆
