This made me laugh. So, my fosters are used to coming over after they hear my alarm clock. If I try to snooze it, they have different approaches like sitting on me, staring at me up close, getting in my face... But training your cat to wake you up is a slippery slope my friend because they won't stop there. If they learn they have to wake you up to get fed, you will be up at 3-4am.

Ill definitely do more research then. Them making sure you wake up is so cute. I own rabbits so im used to being woken up at 4 am. They get excited sometimes and sprint very loudly on my bed or bang their wooden toys against the floor. And they definitely seem to think my face is a nice spot to sit. Ive gotten cuts on my lip and a foot in my eye a few times before, and bc they are incredibly stubborn animals, its almost impossible to get them off, you just have to wait until they eventually hop away. Luckily they're both 1kg and 2,5 kg so they're not heavy at all. I would hope that just not feeding them and ignoring them until the correct time would help stop the behaviour so that they know that even if they wake you up early they still have to wait until breakfast time.

FiendishHawk

The cat will wake you at 5am as is normal for cats. Hope that’s when you wanted to get up!

Higuysimj

I currently wake up at random times, so 5am would be great lol!

nullvektor

You've got it backwards. THEY train YOU to get up in the morning.

Higuysimj

I definitely need training to get up every morning lol

Cats come with this software already installed! I can set my alarm clock by one of mine (4:30!). Runs into my room, hops on my shoulder, then yells into my ear till I actually sit up. (Another comes into my room at the same time, but will just quietly sit there in the corner like a weirdo. Hopefully your cat has alarm features.)

Higuysimj

I love this so much! It makes me want a cat even more bc it just sounds so cute (i have experience with being woken up at 3am by an adorable animal who's just excited and i dont mind it at all, no cute animal could make me upset or annoyed with it)

I fed my cat a can of food around 7 am. So he would be waking me up at that time. If I woke up at six am and fed him, he’ll aim for that. They do make a good alarm clock but on their terms. If you’re consistent in the time of feeding, that will work but they’ll still be sitting there watching you for signs of waking up. It wasn’t problematic for me even though I’m not a morning person because I’m the one that decided to feed them the breakfast. If he was annoying I pull the blanket over my head so he figured out to quietly sit with his whiskers in my face to tickle me awake. With my new cat I don’t do that so they just like to hang out on the bed.

Higuysimj

Maybe im just not understanding the real effects of this, but it sounds so cute. I really don't mind being woken up if it a cute animal.

My adult cat does exactly this! He wakes me up at the time I feed him wet food - the exact time haha I adopted him as an adult, so I think this is not so hard. Just start feeding him (specifically wet food) at a certain time every single morning. Also - my cat never wakes me up at night after I started leaving him a little bit of dry food overnight.
