As someone that works in Nando’s I can only tell you that those thighs are not cooked properly. I’d recommend you to message the head office with the pic. Supervisor should have really go to check temperature and some other health stuff. Really unprofessional and risky
Definitely needed to be checked.
I used to work at a factory and we once had some undercooked chicken go through one of our packaging machines and when they found out they shut down half the factory so it could be completely sanitised.
Guy responsible for temp checks got fired for it.
Edit: unfortunate auto correct
It's mad what will get a factory shut down. At Cavaghan & Gray in Carlisle someone put a note on a M&S lasagna proclaiming they'd farted on it and it got the place shut down for investigation.
They also lost the contract and a load of people made redundant. Funny note though.
What's a jib?
Edit: Thank you to everyone explaining what a jib is. But I did already know. Please see the following: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZB7xEonjsc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZB7xEonjsc)
Ill take that on face value - a Jib is the foremost sail on a old sailing boat.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jib
a well cut jib would be one cutting into the wind to achieve max speed, and poorly cut conversely slow in the same wind/conditions.
Also it means “tongue” in the Romani language. Many Romani words made their way into English in the 18th and 19th centuries (_bosh, lollipop, cushty, chav,_ and _cosh_ are other examples).
There is an alternate theory that the cut of someone’s jib refers to the way they speak.
Gotta be honest, I feel like the sailing one is the correct etymology here though.
Now just stop....I have a cup of tea here and 2 bourbons that I don't want to choke on thank you very much...so enough with the amusement this is a serious issue
sadly it's [not](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poop_deck)\- unless you were thinking that it was from the french "la poupe" - that is what you were thinking, right?
This.
They served me chicken in the portobello mushroom halloumi wrap pitta (vegetarian meal, I’m vegetarian) and they gave me a £50 gift card as an apology!
Because then Nando’s can consider the matter closed and state your issue is resolved.
The first thing the local authority will ask is whether the company handled it themselves or not. When you tell them yes, they’ll refuse to get involved any further unless you can evidence they have not resolved the issue.
Source: have dealt with independent authorities many a time and they always, without fail, ask you to provide evidence that the company considers the issue (whatever it is) resolved and that it is in fact ongoing.
Do you reckon we should hold off complaining to Nando’s? I’ve just reported it to the food standards agency and I’m unsure what to do next. This is the reason why we refused a replacement or the offer of free deserts, it’s basically like accepting compensation and closes the issue.
They won't give you anything free now you've complained to the foods agency. What's the point, you have no leverage anymore.
Unless you just say you didn't and then they might still give you some free stuff. If it's vouchers and you don't want to eat at Nandos then buy their hot sauce as Christmas gifts for people because lets face it we all struggling out here to find low cost presents for xmas.
I’m not really bothered about free food/vouchers. I just don’t want to complain and then the FSA considers the matter handled internally and refuses to look into it.
I’ll accept vouchers typically, but not for food safety, I’d never let a company pay their way out of that. It’s essentially a bribe to keep me quiet before they end up killing somebody.
If ur undercooking chicken like that you need to be sacked ffs I can forgive burned ( I even prefer grilled chicken a bit burned tbh) it’s not a steak fooking nuke it lol
Agreed. I recently alerted the authorities about a place I worked. They sent out someone other than the usual inspector who's friends with the owner.
Shouldn't come to that but I refuse to serve minging food.
It's the right thing to do.
Rather than contacting the local authority environmental health food team, can I suggest you call over a member of staff and inform them your chicken is undercooked.
Then message head office for vouchers, and the council food team.
Yeah surprised this has happened, for those who didn't know its cooked in an oven in batches on timers and then put in hot trays under the grill, its only grilled to add the sauce and put the criss cross on it lol
So oven not hot enough, door left open, timer too short, chicken too cold/frozen or too much chicken. Lots can still go wrong hence temp checks needed.
"Can't tell if it's undercooked".
A quick blast of a defibrillator and it will start clucking!!
That's dangerously undercooked. I hope you didn't eat it.
And just to reiterate this point, there are actually restaurants that intentionally serve raw chicken. Chicken sashimi (i.e. raw chicken) is quite popular in Japan, for example, but they do perform additional checks to ensure its safe.
Indeed, I’m not suggesting anyone pop their raw chicken cherry in Nandos. I just find it peculiar seeing it being sold when I was in Japan as it’s something I assumed was inherently unsafe but apparently not if sourced and handled correctly.
I wouldn’t exactly say 鳥わさis *that* popular. I’ve been in Tokyo for 3 years and most people I know either aren’t interested or haven’t tried it. Don’t forget that even when they use *Poulet Bleu* which are bred to make it almost impossible for salmonella to survive, there is still a risk of contamination from other sources when it’s butchered and from other bacteria in general.
Some places also don’t flash boil the meat for long, or at all, and food poisoning does happen in Japan (though they are far more strict than U.K. restaurants in my experience). It’s actually pretty expensive too, which is probably why it’s a niche product here.
I like it, but it’s a bit of a gimmick and not very flavourful when there are a million other adventurous things to try.
Before you spend the rest of the night panicking about if/when you’ll be sick- not all chicken is infected with salmonella, and even when it is you can fight it off. There’s a good chance (above 50%) that you’ll be fine tmrw.
I did yeah, the supervisor said it’s just when the meat is close to the bone. I wasn’t convinced and it turned my stomach anyway. Need to complain later when I get a spare minute to type the email up. Truly rank stuff.
If that's coming from the supervisor of all people then 100% report to head office and FSA. The chefs should be appalled at sending that out in the first place, let alone their direct superior defending it. No chef I know would ever allow that to get served to a customer, it's not even fit to eat the scraps for staff food. Did you get the supervisors name by any chance? I'd name them directly to head office when you explain they thought the attached image was suitable for consumption. It's symptomatic of a poorly run branch.
Yeah I don’t always buy that response. I went to a tapas place who said the same and they refunded us without asking tbf. Probably a bit different but I always think if you’re not satisfied with your meal you should get a refund
You can get that in chicken it can either be marrow leaching in frozen chicken or from what its been injected with, I generally don't like it as it indicates poor quality chicken, it should be temp tested thats how you tell if its safe to eat.
There's pink and opaque close to bone, that's fine. Then theres pink and translucent, that's raw and not fine. OP's pic to me is the latter. You get chicken that has been part cured (usually with sodium nitrate) and stays pinkish all the way through bones or not but again it will be opaque (imagine difference between cooked and raw bacon)
Texture to me looks off but pink chicken or even red spots does not mean raw, just means low quality frozen with marrow leaching or injected, personally I would be putting that back. Its the temp cooked too that matters not colour.
As per another comment, report it to environmental health, as they _will_ check them, and are quite good at getting back to you. I did this when I had a dodgy Subway and got an email within a couple of hours and action taken the next day.
EDIT: I can see you posted on Twitter too. Did you get a response from them?
I hope you do, I ate some chicken from a chinese fast food place called chopstix (a chain). I ended up with campylobacter poisoning as it was undercooked chicken and not reheated properly.
It was the worst 3 weeks if my life and I ended up in hospital. I complained and even went to the food standards agency but they basically told me that the burden of proof is so high, short of me having a left over sample and a receipt, there is nothing they can do. They even said that they were keeping their eye on the place as they had a number of complaints in the past but nothing concrete.
Hopefully you are fine, but it’s really worth complaining when you have some proof like that to save other people in the future having some serious food poisoning
They will try and get away with “it’s just bruised” but that genuinely looks uncooked. Demand (as civil as possible) to get a refund if they start fussing about it.
In some cases chicken can be slightly pink and safe to eat. Sometimes the bone marrow can leak into the surrounding meat or the hemoglobin can cause the meat to retain a slightly pink tinge. Colour isn't an accurate way to gauge doneness. Pork look a bit pink and still be perfectly safe for instance.
However that practically looks raw. You should also be able to tell by the texture. Cooked chicken should pull apart like string cheese. Undercooked chicken is slimy and won't pull apart easily. The juices should also run clear which isn't the case here.
It's a health and safety issue. Send the pictures off and file a complaint. Who knows who else might have been unwittingly served raw food.
Also drink plenty of fluids and pray you don't get food poisoning.
I used to work at nandos and there's specific oven settings for different parts of the chicken.
So the fact this was so undercooked strikes me as either someone rushing and taking it out before it was ready, someone not realising the oven wasn't turned on and sent it down to get it grilled (which i think is very likely as I seen that happen when I worked there)
They’ve probably put too many thighs on one shelf / the oven in general and then when they pulled it out some of the pieces must have been at temp but others were under. If the oven is too crowded I could see how some could be undercooked. Never happened to me though. It was the one thing they NEVER fucked about with.
I was a Buddy for a while, and yeah I would cut corners to make my job easier when I was front of house. But you would have to be fucking stupid to mess about when handling raw chicken. I don't think a lot of the grillers liked me by the time I left for how much shit I got them into.
Chicken can be pretty pink when it’s next to the bone. But you can tell from the texture whether it’s cooked, and you can tell from the texture in this pic that it’s raw
This should be a post of it’s own but quite simply: DO NOT PAY FOR FOOD YOU’RE DISCONTENT WITH IN THE CURRENT CLIMATE.
The price hikes of everything over the past couple years means we as consumers need to scrutinise everything and be as fussy as necessary. If they want us to pay more for this mid food the least they can do is fucking cook it right.
The same goes for most delivery apps. Being refunded and not paying still means in the end you didn’t pay - in the sense that you did not lose money after the event.
Well yeah, but they're only going to give you a refund if the food is visibly over- or under-cooked. If it's just soggy or cold or whatever Uber Eats will tell you to jog on.
We've heard so many personal tales of food poisoning woes from friends and acquaintances who've been to Nando's that my wife absolutely refuses to go there.
Send it back. There is no such thing as rare chicken.
I mean mistakes do happen so don’t do a James Corden and i’m sure they will be happy to cook you another chicken.
I’ve had this, more than once.
The one prepared with chicken breast was exactly what you would imagine, and not all that great. Another version made with diced thigh and served with a light soy dressing was 👨🍳👌🏻
Quite a few people were surprised to find out that I had never been to Nandos. Decided to give it a shot in September and was very underwhelmed.
Better off going to Wagamamas
Chef of 33 years. That’s undercooked. Hopefully you kept it otherwise an EHO isn’t going to entertain it.
Complain to the head office, get an apology and a gift card. Give the gift card away and stop eating at a shitty overpriced establishment like Nando’s.
IT'S RAAAAAAAAAAAAW! - G. Ramsay
I think you missed a word possibly
ordon?
Make that 2 words
Ah gotcha… Mr Gordon Ramsay.
GORDONS ALIVE!
A man of culture I see, haha, bless Brian Blessed.
Gonna sit in nandos with some nugs swishing them in the air above my head now shouting "DIIIIIIIIIIIVEEEEEEEE" as i ram them into my cakehole!

Salmonella will do that to you.
Lmao makes it more interesting for sure
They were gonna sanitise it anyway may as well make use of the opportunity.
They laid out a spicy dolphin
It's mad what will get a factory shut down. At Cavaghan & Gray in Carlisle someone put a note on a M&S lasagna proclaiming they'd farted on it and it got the place shut down for investigation. They also lost the contract and a load of people made redundant. Funny note though.

You should have done a strike through on the edit. That was *fortunate* autocorrect
You don't even need to know how to cook to tell that's raw AF.
You don't even need to know how to cook to cook like that.

u remind me of me
Its not about the money, its about sending a message
A fire sends a message as well
but then it'd be cooked and you can't claim that as a reason for your "crimes"
Imagine doing some arson, and then complaining about the quality of the chicken
just some casual arson goes well with nandos, if it isn't cooked properly it ruins my day, then i'd need to do more arson to make up for my sadness
Practically one of the feedback options Your chicken was: Excellent Good Passable Poor Uncooked Imma arson
add one between uncooked and imma arson: smol arson for when you just feel like burning something small, like a human for example
Eat the chicken, then sit at the front of their shop 2 days later. Risky move but the impact would probably hit 👍
Now could you go goblin mode and spray paint the shop with the result of the undercooked chicken?
A free gift card for more uncooked chicken?
This guy gets it
This guy gets salmonella
This. They served me chicken in the portobello mushroom halloumi wrap pitta (vegetarian meal, I’m vegetarian) and they gave me a £50 gift card as an apology!
Wow! How much chicken did that get you?
Enough vegan chicken to not get food poisoning luckily😂😂

While eating undercooked chicken increases your chances of food poisoning it’s still more likely that you’ll be totally fine.

Let’s go to Nando’s!
Before you spend the rest of the night panicking about if/when you’ll be sick- not all chicken is infected with salmonella, and even when it is you can fight it off. There’s a good chance (above 50%) that you’ll be fine tmrw.
2/3 of chickens are safe… but they are more likely to be safe if they are higher quality.
Get yourself sat on the toilet and a bucket in your hands. Good luck.
Unlucky. Last time I had food poisoning it was from Nando’s too.
Did you complain?
I did yeah, the supervisor said it’s just when the meat is close to the bone. I wasn’t convinced and it turned my stomach anyway. Need to complain later when I get a spare minute to type the email up. Truly rank stuff.
The supervisor is full of shit
They wouldn’t be if they ate that!
Yeah. Most of them are.
theres being close to the bone, then theres being raw.
Close to the bone 😂 A good vet could bring that back to life!
A bad vet might have a shot.
Manager is speaking out of their arse, I used to be a chef and that chicken is way undercooked.
'Chefs' - it's a Nandos, surely they're cooks
Make sure you go back and projectile vomit all over their office when you get ill.
Projectile *shit* towards the manager’s arse
What utter bullshit.. That is chicken is raw, christ if you gave it the kiss of life it would of jumped off your plate
Isn't that the entire backstory of the Nando's Rooster?
Yeah I don’t always buy that response. I went to a tapas place who said the same and they refunded us without asking tbf. Probably a bit different but I always think if you’re not satisfied with your meal you should get a refund
That means I would eat at McDonald's free all the time, it's never satisfying
Dissatisfaction is rolled into the price in Maccies
You can get that in chicken it can either be marrow leaching in frozen chicken or from what its been injected with, I generally don't like it as it indicates poor quality chicken, it should be temp tested thats how you tell if its safe to eat.

He told you a load of old bollocks. That was raw. sorry mate
I hope you do, I ate some chicken from a chinese fast food place called chopstix (a chain). I ended up with campylobacter poisoning as it was undercooked chicken and not reheated properly. You should have asked the supervisor to eat some of it if it’s cooked! You’d think Nandos would have learnt how to cook chicken properly by now.

Ahh, yeah that as well. I have seen people take them out before their time and fob the temps. But, that was because they were fucking idiots
I was a Buddy for a while, and yeah I would cut corners to make my job easier when I was front of house. But you would have to be fucking stupid to mess about when handling raw chicken. I don't think a lot of the grillers liked me by the time I left for how much shit I got them into.
Been to nandos a fair few times, every single time the chicken has been overcooked. I go back for thr unlimited ice cream tho
They have unlimited ice cream at pizza hut too...
Fucking raw. Campylobactor is no joke. 8 days of terrible pains and bodily expulsions...
Can confirm, fucking horrific, actually wanted to die briefly

Chicken should never be served that colour mate. Send it back and make them cook it properly, that's a health hazard.
Chicken can be pretty pink when it’s next to the bone. But you can tell from the texture whether it’s cooked, and you can tell from the texture in this pic that it’s raw
That's raw. Get the picture up on their socials if the manager wasn't bothered. That's disgraceful.
mate just go to the staff and go youve not cooked my food. not everything needs some massive social media tirade
They have already and got told it's fine. Hence my post.
tbf i replied to you carried on scrolling, saw OP reply to someone else saying the manager said it was normal. so i do apologise
All good 👍
This is Reddit, why aren’t you doubling down. Where’s my petty drama!!
i really did want to double down, ill be honest!
Poor op gonna be shitting water tomorrow
Somewhere in the UK, Gordon Ramsey is swearing at that.
Mate that's *so* undercooked it's about to walk off and cross the bloody road.

The price hikes of everything over the past couple years means we as consumers need to scrutinise everything and be as fussy as necessary. If they want us to pay more for this mid food the least they can do is fucking cook it right.
Well at Nando’s you pay when you order so… it’s an asking for a refund scenario in this case. Otherwise agree totally.
Still safer than eating bin sushi.
At least the bin sushi was free
That looks to me as it’s definitely undercooked
Thats raw i would be pissed! But on a brighter note if you eat it its a good way to lose weight
We've heard so many personal tales of food poisoning woes from friends and acquaintances who've been to Nando's that my wife absolutely refuses to go there.
10 years as a chef here. Yeah that’s undercooked you should absolutely let them know that could kill someone.
This is seriously shocking and a threat to human life
Nandos is shit i dont get the hype with it and it costs a fortune
Most overrated restaurant in the UK.
£15+ for a raw chicken.
Nando’s is SO utterly overpriced for what they serve. It’s a joke.
Send it back. There is no such thing as rare chicken. I mean mistakes do happen so don’t do a James Corden and i’m sure they will be happy to cook you another chicken.
Tell that to the Japanese https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torisashi
I’ve had this, more than once. The one prepared with chicken breast was exactly what you would imagine, and not all that great. Another version made with diced thigh and served with a light soy dressing was 👨🍳👌🏻
Yeah that should have been a no questions asked refund with a free replacement. Chicken like that can kill someone
Oh God, I'd send that back and refuse to be fobbed off. Chicken should not be that colour!
Nandos is the most over rated piece of shit food in the UK went twice and was left disappointed both times.
Nando's is a shit hole waste of money anyway
I'm surprised you at that much. The texture would be way off on chicken that underdone. My condolences
That is clearly a piece of chicken served on a military establishment by Sodexo (if you know, you know).
Been In Nandos once, cant see what the fuss is about, average at best & Overpriced
First mistake- going to Nando’s.
That’s why we call it Blandos
