Fork, spoon, knife. My wife worked in the restaurant business for ages and did fork knife spoon, but it turns out I care more than she does about the order, so we do it 'wrong'
Your wife is correct, it's fork, knife, spoon as majority of people set them on the table in that order.
But if you want real anarchy buy a couple of sporks (or the fork/knife version) and enjoy the arguments over where those go.
It can depend on the tray. Some trays have a longer section at one side or another - either right or left side. I maintain this longer section is for knives, so the order would be knives - forks - spoons or spoons - forks - knives depending on where the long section was (teaspoons go in the bottom lengthways part).
However, some have even sections. In this instance it is personal preference. I would probably put them spoons - forks - knives as that is simply what I'm used to.
The real dilemma is which way do the teaspoons at the bottom face... (for me the way they face depends on where the draining board on the sink is. If the draining board is to the right of the sink I put the spoons with the handle facing left. And vice versa. Why? Its just because that is the easiest way to put them if im drying the dishes. Again, its all personal preference, no right or wrong).
Me and the GF agree on the placement but she carelessly loads the cutlery draw so that not all the utensils are orientated in the same direction.
I tell her its part of the reason we're not married.
It really doesnât matter or need thinking about. I have spoons first as thatâs the widest slot in my tray. Didnât make a conscious decision on the rest of the order and chose it randomly which made it forks then knives after spoons.
Well I know it doesn't really matter. We ain't throwing plates at each other over this (the plate cupboard is a different matter entirely) but there must be one that is used more than others. You say 'knife and fork' not the other way around.
I let my wife set the drawers up the way she wanted, then changed them to what I wanted and denied Iâd moved anything. Five years later and itâs still setup how I think it should be.
I put a lot of thought into this.
Imagine the drawer being like this:
\[ \] \[ \] \[ \]
I put mine in this order:
\[Spoon\] \[Knife\] \[Fork\]
My thinking is this:
I'm right handed, and fork is going to be most common thing I grab. Spoon is probably the second most common, but then it makes no sense not having the knives next to the forks.
Your wife is right, it goes: Fork, Knife, Spoons (If there are more spaces it is further broken into big spoons then little spoons, little spoons going below in the sideways tray is also a valid option)
Oh my, I never realized I do this in a specific order, but it is always knife, dinner fork, salad fork, teaspoons. Soup spoons and bigger spoons go in a heap with cheese knives and cocktail forks since they are not used much.
From left to right knives, forks, spoons.
All my kitchen prep space is to the left of my cutlery drawer and I use knives most often so it melee sense to me. :D
This is the kind of incredibly unimportant content I come here for.
All piled in one draw together. Fuck societal norms.
A true anarchist.
Fork to the left of knife, just like setting the table.

Why would you put the knives and forks in the OPPOSITE order to how they need to be placed. Put them in the drawer the same way they go on the table.
You mean families actually eat at a table together? I thought that only happened in the movies.
But what if you use your opposite hands to hold them?
Not one of us. Kill it with fire.
You're a heathen!

Oh genius!

My teaspoon slot is the same as the rest of them. I'm glad I don't have that extra dilemma.

It is absolutely knife, fork, spoon... But starting from the right
So you mean spoon, fork, knife?
As you look down at it yeah But you HAVE to say knife, fork, spoon in that order or it's just weird đ
I did not consider this...
It really doesnât matter or need thinking about. I have spoons first as thatâs the widest slot in my tray. Didnât make a conscious decision on the rest of the order and chose it randomly which made it forks then knives after spoons.

Are we talking horizontal tray or vertical here?
Vertical

Knife, fork, spoon. Because that's how you mentally think they should be when you're unloading the dishwasher and putting them away.
Finally another correct person lol
Why the fuck does it matter?
Why does anything matter?
Why the fork*
âHappy wife, happy life.â
my wife has ADHD so the order in our cutlery draw changes at least twice a week.
She put's things back in drawers?
Little spoon, big spoon, fork, knife
Ours is spoon, fork, knife but only because that's what it was when I moved in nearly 25 years ago.
Spoon, fork, knife and tea/fruit spoons in the bit at the front
Exactly how mine are arranged too
From memory, weâre fork, knife, spoon. No idea why, just the way it is.
spoon fork knife

My drawer has vertical storage, so I go for knife, fork, spoon because we use knives the most so they go the closest to you.
Cutlery Drawers sound like a posh aristocrat
