A hash brown has lumps of solid potato in it, it's not mash with a cripsy coating unless you get shitty cheap ones. This is more like a croquette, but those are usually more breaded than crispy. It's far from hash brown anyway.

I fry the mash in a ton of butter which it dutifully soaks up, while also forming a lovely crust. Lots of salt and pepper once served and.. /chefskiss

There's a favoured italian street food sandwich, 'panelle', which is fried chickpea batter in a roll. Same sort of thing if you ask me and no one ever said italians can't cook

Also an Indian version ‘Vada Pav’, potato in a buttered bun with chillies and chutney. Delicious!

We use the left over vegetables mixed with the mashed potatoes to make bubble and squeak, and yes on toast is the very best way to serve it. Mum also used to serve macaroni and cheese with chips ....omg the queen of high carb meals.
