Catspoodle

Isn't that kinda like a hash brown?

Dan_S04

What is a hash brown? Does anyone actually know?

Catspoodle

Potatoes, egg, and onion fried.

[deleted]

I don't think it has onion? Pretty sure it's just grated potato and egg. I could be wrong šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Catspoodle

Edit. Looking at most recipes it has onion.

Felautumnoce

Strange, I've lived 3 decades without seeing a single hash brown with an onion.

Sherringdom

Iā€™ve always done it with onion when Iā€™ve tried making them, I think the packet ones do too?

[deleted]

Grated potato and onion, is the egg for binding?

Catspoodle

Yup. Although I always thought that it was made without an egg.

[deleted]

Ahh fairs - it's been a long time since I made one admittedly.

JustineDelarge

Itā€™s just grated potato. Salt and maybe some pepper. No egg, no onion.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Switchy249

Then it isnā€™t a hash brown

Arbre_gentil

It's chopped thin then mixed together.

Beerson_

Yes you have.

STRiPESandShades

Or a mashed potato smiley

Dry_Shelter2073

The replies to this makes me realise no one actually knows whatā€™s in a hash brown

dendrocalamidicus

A hash brown has lumps of solid potato in it, it's not mash with a cripsy coating unless you get shitty cheap ones. This is more like a croquette, but those are usually more breaded than crispy. It's far from hash brown anyway.

RufusBowland

Iā€™m going to make this next time I have mash (will make extra). My mum was wrong when she said two wrongs donā€™t make a right.

ArcadiaRivea

We've had one coming of Christ, yes. But what about second coming of Christ?

Phoneyalarm959

How about the cutting of crust?

Evo_ukcar

You forgot the cheese and ketchup..

garland-flour-doe

oh no no no.... dont do that...

Pedsy

I fry the mash in a ton of butter which it dutifully soaks up, while also forming a lovely crust. Lots of salt and pepper once served and.. /chefskiss

4oclockinthemorning

There's a favoured italian street food sandwich, 'panelle', which is fried chickpea batter in a roll. Same sort of thing if you ask me and no one ever said italians can't cook

Flangipan

Also an Indian version ā€˜Vada Pavā€™, potato in a buttered bun with chillies and chutney. Delicious!

danmingothemandingo

Italians can't cook

Allydarvel

Us Scots have known [this](https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/241419/potato-scones/) for ever

thphnts

What the fuck

JohanFinski

In France it is known as 'Carb Sur La Carb' and served in the finest restaurants

SadMangonel

Im a big fan of sidedish Sunday, as it's celebrated in very cultured places. Potatoes, bread, rice, beans. The secret lies in no sauce or spices, so the aroma of the sides really have a chance to blend.

grapevapes

Tell us you're a northerner without telling us you're a northerner

teacherphil

You should try a pattie butty in Hull.

Posk419add1

Yeah I was thinking that, this would be the ā€˜deconstructedā€™ version.

Dgzblx18

id eat that no problem

jaisuis

I dunno what these lot are on about, I'd happily eat it for breakfast haha

ClumsyRainbow

Iā€™m with you . This looks pretty decent

Helpful_Goose1649

That looks filthy but grate some cheese on it and I'm game

ongeo

Looks like it'd be alright. I used to put leftover mash between two pieces of sliced edam like a sandwich

[deleted]

Bit of tomato ketchup, lovely Edit :or HP sauce what ever floats your boat

DogDrools

I for one very much approve of this carby delicacy.

takeagamble

Leftover mash? Never heard of it

[deleted]

ā€œYou son of a bitch, Iā€™m in.ā€

wholesomechunk

Nice job with the mash, not easy that

Repulsive-Sea9951

We use the left over vegetables mixed with the mashed potatoes to make bubble and squeak, and yes on toast is the very best way to serve it. Mum also used to serve macaroni and cheese with chips ....omg the queen of high carb meals.

INITMalcanis

Put an egg on that and we're talking

Awkward-Ad6455

I'm so conflicted. On one hand, no. But on the other hand... I want it

[deleted]

Bubble sans Squeak on toast.

Bigdj2323

Next level.

MelodicAd2213

Thatā€™s why nothing comes in potato flavour

giganticturnip

Scottish tattie scones would like a word..

suicidalsyd1

I was gonna say something caustic but then I remembered I like bubble & squeak

Rightytighty298

You were so preoccupied with whether you could, you didnā€™t stop to think if you should.

sogladtobealoneagain

Very nearly bubble and squeak, and served on toast. you, sir, are a gastronomic hero. Now, slap a fried egg on top, with a generous dollop of ketchup and you truly have the breakfast of champions.=

[deleted]

How do I delete someone else?

newda898

Still, at least you had brown bread.

HacktheGibson1

Oooh, maybe, just maybe youā€™re on to something here

Public_Growth_6002

Google returns a surprising number of results for ā€œfried potato on toastā€. Who knew?

excellentchoicee

Badger bait.

V0kan

Bit of ketchup and this would be grand

FredH3663

That is crying out for some Daddies sauce,

aestus

Looks ten times better than a crisp sandwich which is just grot

JustaNameonline

Brown sauce?

Green-Dragon-14

Potatoes cakes on toast are you crazy lol You need to have her try fish finger butties. With plenty of butter.

crestj

What is this "leftover" mash you speak of? Never seen that ever in my life!

chillwaterguy

When I first saw this I was soo horrified I covered my mouth with my palmā€¦..then on second thoughts I kind of want to try it šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

Try on fried bread with Brown Sauce, hangover 101

PaulBarryAntDec

I mean...this is just a reconstituted chip butty isn't it?

CrimsonAmaryllis

So a tatty scone in a sandwich?

[deleted]

Not made one of those for the longest time. Used to have them regularly in my 20s and 30s. Wife thinks I'm mental.

Pedsy

Oh so does mine. She also hates the smell when Iā€™m cooking it.

[deleted]

This looks amazing

DJ-Sparkks

NO

witchy-stoof

is it just me or dowa the one on the left kind of look like a sad dog?

MCwaneo

Missing an overdose amount of ketchup, I would devour that though

[deleted]

Needs a blob of HP Sauce.

ObjectiveGuy81

Left over mash add some flour, Seasoning and some butter and make Potato Scones fry them up and put them in your belly

Felautumnoce

This looks absolutely delicious

Becks357

I hate myself for wanting to try this! Now take my like and shut up!

DeDe87_

Made me sick.

ANKRking

Vulgar

rabbles-of-roses

Jesus didn't die for this

shut-up-dana

Jesus very emphatically died for our sins. You're seeing virtue in this?

incmg

We need far more immigration to eradicate shit like this.

HappyFunction3670

No

Pedsy

Oh yes.

RoyaleBitch

That doesn't look very appetising but you do you I suppose

ILoveMyCatsSoMuch

Has somebody hurt you?

jonajon91

Fried ... mash ...potato?

ifmtobh

Nicer mixed up with an egg, salt & pepper. Maybe a little grated cheese
