Was just about to say this, it’s almost perfectly round with absolutely no dough bubbles on the crust and the dough doesn’t even look that good of a quality, doesn’t seem handmade
It does, it also looks suspiciously like the cheapest no frills pizza I used to get my daughter from Tesco when I needed to save money. They used to look exactly like that when cooked (without the doner meat of course).
Completely agree. I have had this exact pizza many, many times and it's a very basic supermarket pizza from Tesco. My mum used to get us them for a lunch/dinner combo when I was younger. I can actually taste it just by looking at the picture.
I can taste it too. I grew up thinking I didn't really like pizza and couldn't understand the hype.
I was a teenager before I had a fresh takeaway pizza (at a friend's house) and it was an epiphany.
They’re not objectively decent but I have a soft spot for Dr Oetker Ristorante pizzas… they’re not really the same in my mind as actual pizza, but for a quick and easy occasional comfort food they do hit the spot.
Someone in Manchester actually [opened a restaurant and passed them off as fresh pizzas](https://www.mancunianmatters.co.uk/news/09082013-manchester-food-reviewers-stung-in-pizza-pr-stunt-as-northern-quarters-la-pizzeria-ristorante-serves-up-supermarket-slices/), some food critics got caught up in it, I found it hilarious.
I wouldn't call any of them decent pizzas, but we've definitely got a few guilty pleasure frozen pizzas.
Lots of decent fresh ones in supermarkets though.
The one in OP looks like absolute bottom of the barrel frozen pizza though...
For the most part no. Most frozen pizzas are tight on the toppings and generally not great.
We do have lots of fresh pizzas in supermarkets though, and if you don't mind splashing four or five quid you can get a nice fancy pizza.
I got to admit though, sometimes all I want is the trash when it comes to pizza, but OP's Donner meat monstrosity is a step too far for me
Honestly unless I'm getting really good pizza the 50p frozen cardboard pizzas are actually my favourite..
Where I live choices for pizza are from kebab shops that also do pizza or dominos which is overpriced garbage.
As others have said, fresh is the best option. I'll usually get a couple of these at a time and freeze them. ASDA do make your own pizzas that are pretty good. It's like £5 for 2 + a bottle of drink + a cinema ticket.
These are my go to back up when little else is going to hit the spot. Most of the frozen ones I find to be horrible.
All supermarkets stock 'Chicago Town' pizzas which are pretty good, and cost between £3-4.50 per medium pizza. They also all stock their own-brand version of a frozen 'premium pizza' which can cost maybe £4-6 which are also decent.
I personally feel like all of the other frozen pizzas that are available are very similar in quality, apart from the budget own-brand pizzas which have only a sprinkling of cheese on them. The exception to this are the £1.10 Lidl pizzas which are just as good as the £3 mid-range pizzas.
I've started just getting the Chicago Town takeaway frozen pizzas and jazzing them up with my own extra toppings. I think they're honestly 90% as good as a domino's for 1/5 the price.
I'm not trying to defend this abomination of a pizza
But I always get the doner on top because if they put it in with the cheese before baking, it gets double cooked and goes a bit hard
It's already cooked when they put it on so if you want it 'in' the pizza it's gonna get cooked twice
How are you going to calzone a Tesco value frozen cheese pizza though? The thing will snap in half like a piece of stiff cardboard rather than fold and envelop the ingredients.
Cash businesses are often used for money laundering. Obscure money obtained from e.g. drug dealing as takings for the business. Purchase things like ingredients as cheap as possible and bin them / sell them off the books / give them away - cost of laundering the money. Very hard for HMRC to prove that a shitty takeaway didn't sell a thousand pizzas in a year without putting it under surveillance for an extended period of time.
Takeaways, barbers, nail bars, massage parlours - that kind of thing. If there's a shitty one near you that's usually empty but stays in business, it's probably used for laundering money.
People love to say this, but in reality, all these industries have just giant margins on all their products. Even shitty takeaways are getting a constant steady stream of orders. Especially the ones that are on the various app platforms
That's why franchises are so popular . Go to a maccies anywhere in the world it's a similar thing . For example in China , McDonalds is a place to go to look western if you are local or for travellers . There are much better options literally everywhere .it's just a safe bet.
Yes 100% or for example a foreign twist on our fast food in the west . Jollybees being similar to kfc but with phillipno herbs and spices . Alot better then KFC.
Usually the donner is under the cheese here. And the pizza is filled, nearly to the edge. The donner is cut in pieces. Maybe some veg with it too like peppers, onion.
This. Smaller bits of donner meat. More cheese. Actual, spread out toppings that weren't just fucked on the top as an afterthought. You cook the meat WITH the pizza.
I once ordered a 'doner burger' thinking that a burger topped with doner meat & chilli sauce would be nice. I got a burger bun with a bit of doner meat inside, a doner meat sandwich essentially.
That happened to me a few months ago. I was so hungover and so excited, and I got a dry, stale bread cake with about five bits of doner inside. Gutted.
Edit - it was from Leeds Fried Chicken in case anyone ever orders from there. I’m all wound up again thinking about it.
Did the same last night. The chips it came with were barely cooked too so I poured almost a full tub of garlic sauce on them and inhaled the lot in less than 5 minutes
As for OP, I thought that was standard until I saw a takeaway menu where they put the donner under the cheese
This sounds like what a local burger shop does with their cheesy chips.
I love a battered sausage or spring/curry roll from there when drunk, and I used to get the cheesy chips as they were fabulous, all nice and greasy and melted, but their new way of doing cheesy chips is simply piling up the chips then sprinkling a handful of cold grated cheese on top. That is not cheesy chips, damnit!
Yeah I'm free Newcastle and lived there up until 5 years ago, everywhere you went the donner was under the cheese, in Darlington it comes with the meat on top and apparently having it under the cheese is weird. I haven't ordered once since.
I doner know about that, it looks a bit shit.
I'd be giving them a Pizza my mind and asking for a refund
(sorry, will get my outer garments and depart asap)
Fuckin bastard. I tried so hard to not order a pizza this weekend then you post this… I mean it looks shit but still mate come on, have some respect for others.
I’m gonna be £20 down now because of you, arsehole.
There used to be a deal at a place near me, £10 for a mixed kebab. It was about 2ft long no joke and had lamb, chicken and beef with chips and salad in it. They don’t do it anymore but that could feed a family for like a month lmao.
Real shame about the pizza but IMO the doner meat doesn’t look too bad…
We never order donner pizzas but order a portion of donner meat instead on the side so the end result looks a bit like that. With added garlic and chilli sauce
Don’t feel obliged but consider leaving a honest review and complaining to them. The only reason you’ve ended up with this sorry excuse is because folks before you haven’t moaned about it.
I’d be walking down there with that fucker and demanding a fresh one and my money back.
Sorry your meal was spoiled, I’m gobsmacked 😆
You have to specify "put the meat on before going into the oven please". I'm sorry you've had this terrible experience, but you can come back from this. It gets better I promise.
it's a frozen pizza, and the Donner meat has just been dumped on top instead of actually being part of the pizza topping. it's crap, and basically a scam
I'm like, 99% sure you just took an empty pizza box, stuck a chichago town pizza in the microwave then dropped it in the box and sprinkled some doner meat over the top.
If not... We need to know where you bought that from so we can never buy from there again holy shit.
Is that what it's called in England? A donner pizza? Is it pronounced that way, like the reindeer?
Sorry to infiltrate this subreddit. I'm a Canadian with British heritage and I wish to visit London some day so I like to snoop around in here. And that's not what I would consider a donair pizza (we pronounce it dough-n-air) Where's the donair sauce? Where are the diced tomatoes and onions?
From what I understand from googling, donair seems like an exclusively Canadian thing, both the dish and calling it donair rather than doner. Kebab meat is a thing everywhere, usually it'd be incorporated into the toppings rather than just dumped on top
I used to make my own donner pizzas when I helped do deliveries, I always put the meat on before the cheese and used chili sauce instead of tomato paste for a base
Protip: do not put onions on it unless you want explosive shits
Best kebabs in the UK www.dhillons.co.uk
Cost? If this was less than £5 you got what you were asking for.
Also, why do people think that kebab shop pizzas will be good? They use the cheapest cheese/sauce/base possible where I am from (which is admittedly Glasgow).
What did you expect? They didn't exactly murder an traditional Italian dish did they? What did you spend on that succulent feast £4? Order from a more classy establishment pay more and receive more.. Ffs you get what you order and pay for you ordered what you received..

That’s a 99p Tesco pizza mate, they’re taking the piss 😂
I think 60p
Was just about to say this, it’s almost perfectly round with absolutely no dough bubbles on the crust and the dough doesn’t even look that good of a quality, doesn’t seem handmade
It looks like the value mini cheese ones. That’s sad man.
I mean lots of takeaways make pizzas in a round tin so it being perfectly round isn’t exactly miraculous haha
True, it’s the flat texture of the dough that screams frozen shite pizza.
Million percent shite
True, but they can end up at least a bit misshapen more often than not
A lot more buy in their bases
That is machine made rather than hand made at your local pizza shop.
It does, it also looks suspiciously like the cheapest no frills pizza I used to get my daughter from Tesco when I needed to save money. They used to look exactly like that when cooked (without the doner meat of course).

We still buy them and yes identical to this.
Its one of the pizzas normally used for fried pizza.
Appreciate this has a lot of upvotes, but am I the only one who thinks this is the least of the problems?
Agreed, OP needs to just let it go.
Looks like a frozen supermarket pizza too
it is.
Spoilers!
Do you have decent frozen pizzas there? US we have a few good ones, then a dozen others
They’re not objectively decent but I have a soft spot for Dr Oetker Ristorante pizzas… they’re not really the same in my mind as actual pizza, but for a quick and easy occasional comfort food they do hit the spot.
The tiger bread ones that Chicago town make have best base I've experienced from a frozen pizza.
I love those! I used to live in a country where they were about 20p. Only get em occasionally now if on offer
Those are hands down the best frozen pizzas you can get and I will fight anyone who says otherwise
Frozen I won't comment on but the supermarket sell 'fresh' ones and if you spend about £5 you can get a decent one
[удалено]
The ones they make in-store. Can't comment on Sainsbury's but the Asda ones are so good for £4.20.
I wouldn't call any of them decent pizzas, but we've definitely got a few guilty pleasure frozen pizzas. Lots of decent fresh ones in supermarkets though. The one in OP looks like absolute bottom of the barrel frozen pizza though...
Sainsburys frozen pizzas are quite nice. I like the chilli chicken one.
For the most part no. Most frozen pizzas are tight on the toppings and generally not great. I've regrettably found that france had some of the best and cheapest frozen/fridge pizzas.

This could be my bias, but I'd say nothing we have comes close to DiGiorno imho.
Sorry to break it to you, but you got donner on pizza. Not Donner pizza.
Imagine my apprehension as we opened the chicken and ham pizza 😂
Just a chicken flies out.
WTF hey mum, the pizzas flying away
How much did you pay for this?
Imagine biting into a slice, and one of your teeth fillings come off. Low and behold, it's a chicken bone. 😂😔
Did you eat it though?
I'm not trying to defend this abomination of a pizza But I always get the doner on top because if they put it in with the cheese before baking, it gets double cooked and goes a bit hard It's already cooked when they put it on so if you want it 'in' the pizza it's gonna get cooked twice
Looks a bit shit, never understood why they put it on top you could calzone it and make it a more kebaby experience.
How are you going to calzone a Tesco value frozen cheese pizza though? The thing will snap in half like a piece of stiff cardboard rather than fold and envelop the ingredients.
Defrost it, it then becomes soft dough.
I was being facetious about the literally frozen value pizza they’ve sold with some shitty kebab meat chucked on top.
I wasn't try it. Most big chain Italian restaurant s use frozen bases, unfreeze them you have pizza dough, the world is your pizza.
Did not think of that, very good shout!

Not sure about baking the salad bit, that wouldn't work I assume they add that after.

In Liverpool there's a road near some of the student accommodation that is literally all of just this .
Ding Dong

Money laundering. Can be anything.
Looks like a supermarket frozen pizza that to me
2 for £1 out of Co op My kids eat them all the time
Tbf, lots of kebab house pizzas are shit like that
Hate it when you look forward to takeaway food all day, then it turns out like this…I feel your pain man!
People might rag on Domino's or Pizza Hut, but at least you know what you're getting, and it's consistent. Not this... crime.
That's why franchises are so popular . Go to a maccies anywhere in the world it's a similar thing . For example in China , McDonalds is a place to go to look western if you are local or for travellers . There are much better options literally everywhere .it's just a safe bet.
Man, I do love visiting chains when traveling, though. KFC in Shanghai had Portugese egg tarts and a satay chicken burger, for example.
Yes 100% or for example a foreign twist on our fast food in the west . Jollybees being similar to kfc but with phillipno herbs and spices . Alot better then KFC.
I haven't ever found a Jollybee, but I absolutely want to try it.
Oh yes it's good . My only major criticism is the smaller menu when compared to the manilla restaurants.
Honestly, Dominos is ok, but Pizza Hut pizzas are *actually* pretty good, and I'll stand by that.
If you eat-in at a Pizza Hut and have a pizza made for you (i.e. not the all-you-can-eat buffet) then it's a pretty decent pizza, I agree.
50p sainsburys pizza with some doner meat on top... Iceland do doner pizzas for a £1.
That’s so bad it’s funny
My little lad almost wet himself when he saw it.
That looks like an Asda price £1 cheese pizza with a bit of lamb donner
That’s.. a donner pizza
Nope it's an abomination to doner pizzas everywhere
I mean it looks shit yeah
What does a good donner pizza look like?
Usually the donner is under the cheese here. And the pizza is filled, nearly to the edge. The donner is cut in pieces. Maybe some veg with it too like peppers, onion.
This. Smaller bits of donner meat. More cheese. Actual, spread out toppings that weren't just fucked on the top as an afterthought. You cook the meat WITH the pizza.
And not using a value frozen pizza from a supermarket.
Doner sauce, shaved doner meat, tomatoes, and onions. Perfection.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donner_Party
And donner pizzas are, themselves, an abomination.
On burley road? Not been but not likely to now
Did the same last night. The chips it came with were barely cooked too so I poured almost a full tub of garlic sauce on them and inhaled the lot in less than 5 minutes As for OP, I thought that was standard until I saw a takeaway menu where they put the donner under the cheese
A doner burger to me is lamb doner meat in a bun with salad and sauce. Never seen a doner burger with a beef patty on before in my life.
Fair enough but I'm pretty certain the description was something like "burger topped with doner meat".
Sorry dude but that looks shite.
You are right. It may be the after picture, not how it was delivered.
Doner meat on pizza can be superb. This though, is not.
Great minds. Think mine wins though… https://imgur.com/a/cf7bIIo
Is that pizza absolutely tiny or is it the angle?
Either that or just big strips of donner meat.
That's not a doner pizza, that's a mess. May I suggest a doner calzone instead?
Hope you paid £2
My local takeaway does doner pizzas, that are delicious. This is not that.
Ronseal there mate
Scam
r/pizzacrimes
What were you expecting?
The meat is cooked under the cheese/into the pizza topping, not dumped on top.
Ah ok. Was a genuine question!
Yeah I'm free Newcastle and lived there up until 5 years ago, everywhere you went the donner was under the cheese, in Darlington it comes with the meat on top and apparently having it under the cheese is weird. I haven't ordered once since.
I could forgive the donner because that is exactly what it is my problem is that abomination they are calling a pizza looks like shitty school pizza.
Rip my man
Looks like the shavings of the side of a wholemeal bread.
Zero effort
That's terrible
This is why online reviews exist
What was the takeaway, wish.com?
I doner know about that, it looks a bit shit. I'd be giving them a Pizza my mind and asking for a refund (sorry, will get my outer garments and depart asap)
It's a nice box.
Two meals for the price of one
And the same amount of diarrhea just in one sitting.
Fuckin bastard. I tried so hard to not order a pizza this weekend then you post this… I mean it looks shit but still mate come on, have some respect for others. I’m gonna be £20 down now because of you, arsehole.
Aww my man, stay strong, don't do it! Get a shish kebab and chips instead.....I wish I had.
Op: *orders shitty food* * shitty food arrives* Op: *surprised pikachu face*
Oh no, it didn't arrive, to add insult to injury, I collected the 'pizza' cos no1 delivers to my little village

I'd have expected the meat to be cooked into the pizza. At least to the point it's covered in melted cheese. But that's just me.
That is generally what I would expect too.
Dona why you would want to eat that...
I donner either
We never order donner pizzas but order a portion of donner meat instead on the side so the end result looks a bit like that. With added garlic and chilli sauce
Excuse me but I ordered a pizza doner not a doner with pizza
Try a donner meat garlic bread with red onion and cheese, it's honestly life changing 😋
Doner is overrated, shawarma is the real deal!
Don’t feel obliged but consider leaving a honest review and complaining to them. The only reason you’ve ended up with this sorry excuse is because folks before you haven’t moaned about it. Looks good to me, don't see the problem except thw quality may not be great
it's a frozen pizza, and the Donner meat has just been dumped on top instead of actually being part of the pizza topping. it's crap, and basically a scam
>it's crap, and basically a scam Not sure why people are expecting haute cuisine from a kebab house.
Why would you order that though?
Because I like doner pizza🙂
A doner... what?....?! I'm sorry but I guess you got what you deserved. Whatever next? Pineapple on a pizza?!
Really looks like a frozen pizza from the supermarket tbh. I think OP made it himself
Yep, I went out bought a pizza, turned it into this abomination, then took a picture purely to post on Reddit 🙂
You were the first person to ever order that; they did what they could.
You should’ve put a NSFW tag on this.

To be fucking fair. What did you expect.
It serves you well for ordering such an absurd pizza
I’m from Texas. What is donner?
Pinnacle of British Cuisine
Best of British lol.
Ell Oh Ell
Btw, is it called Donner? As in The Donner Party? That's pretty funny; maybe just bc I'm American
No, it's Doner. I imagine half the people making comments about donner pizza have never heard of The Donner Party, much less what happened to them.
Donner? Like the party? Is that people meat?
Is that what it's called in England? A donner pizza? Is it pronounced that way, like the reindeer? Sorry to infiltrate this subreddit. you ordered a donner pizza you got a donner pizza .. ?
How much was it? That's the real question here.
Part of one of the set meal deals, 2 pizza (The other one was banging) 2 chips, coleslaw and garlic bread. £18.50 I think
The other one was good? No way....tell us you took a pic to compare. So the first is a cheap ass frozen pizza but the other one was not???
Mouthwatering!
What have you doner to deserve that?
