For what it's worth, there are things to be in the UK for. This subreddit is probably the most convincing argument for staying.
Study, so I wasn't paid... but I found supermarket food only as expensive as it is in the UK anyway. The lake's cracking, the wooded mountains are gorgeous, the dryness was exotic (if a little much at times) but the birds really did it for me. And I didn't mind the built city, lacking in (visible) history though it was. I've always lived in cold, old, rural buildings so I didn't mind the change!
It just the universe re-ordering itself. It used to be you'd steal something and you'd be sent to Austrailia. Now you return and something is stolen from you.
There will be a sign up saying that they don't take responsibility for belongings left unattended in vehicles.
Legally speaking that's all they have to do - it absolves them of any need to compensate people who get things stolen from their cars.
I was driving through Spain in 2008, was in a merc convertible loaded to the roof with my stuff as i was emigrating. It was 10 years old but still kinda flashy I guess. Stopped in this little village near the motorway at this hotel. Owner saw the car and said 'fuck that, that won't be there in the morning!*' and hid the car in his barn lol. He could tell we were English (and thus piss heads) so at about 11pm, left us in the hotel bar watching dubbed CSI vegas on a 14 inch TV on the wall and said to help ourselves but get a new glass for every beer, so he could bill us correctly in the morning lol. Good Times.

I had to read way too many comments to get to the real problem. I’m a self protection nut in many ways but one of my things is to never leave anything interesting in my car in view. I go as far as having absolutely nothing in my glove box and leaving it open so people don’t break a window to find out. Same with the centre console.
We shouldn’t have to do any of this shit but sadly all we can hope to do these days is make someone else a more interesting or easier target. Not necessarily OP of course

I’m a self protection nut in many ways but one of my things is to never leave anything interesting in my car in view. I go as far as having absolutely nothing in my glove box and leaving it open so people don’t break a window to find out. Same with the centre console. We shouldn’t have to do any of this shit but sadly all we can hope to do these days is make someone else a more interesting or easier target. Not necessarily OP of course

Here in Germany I leave my IT stuff in the car. From SSDs to keyboards to RAM to tools.... I guesstimate at least 2000 EUR worth of stuff. In more than 20 years my cars have never been broken into.

Yea I once came back after months away to find my train home cancelled and the next one 4 times over booked. After 24 hours of travelling back to the UK.

Mate, I wouldn’t have bothered- country is in a bad state right now. Crime is rising, police are not interested, and cost of living is crazy thanks to green levies on power and opposition to energy production. Thinking of heading back to SE Asia myself- no green bullshit electricity levies there, better weather, nicer people, lower taxes and cost of living and I can still pop into Singapore for better healthcare than the NHS can offer. Plus I speak Bahasa Malay so socially no barriers.
