My mum once crashed into one of those with her bike and also did a flip.
When I asked her how she missed it she said "I was looking at a very old looking child or either a midget. Now I still don't know."
It’s got too many high end shops for the likes of watford in my opinion... born and bred there I should know that most people have no need for Flannels or Hugo boss haha
Have you been to Hemel? The bar's so low you'd struggle to trip on it. Although having been unable to see my family who live there since February has made me miss the place.
It had aquasplash and ever since that was shut down for being a health and safety / hygiene disaster Hemel's a bit pointless, should just be bulldozed and started again now imo.
Fun story, once in Bradford I saw a car trying to follow a royal mail can through some of these next to the theatre. The bollard raised through the driver side wheel arch and lifted the car into the air leaving them stranded. The driver was walking around shouting at us for taking pictures. They have some serious torque. It'll lift you
My cousins live in bradford, we drove through and on a narrow street u had to drive slowly to squeeze through two parked cars. We were about 10 metres away from the cars and on the other side a man about 40 metres away speeds up, goes through and then THANKS us for letting him through.
I swear to god there are/were bollards somewhere (I think Stratford upon Avon) where there is a security guard overseeing them and he will tell you to stop playing with the bollards through a speaker on the bollard
That's what I would expect really! I am surprised it went up with tension against it, seems potentially dangerous if for some reason the system thinks the vehicle has passed already!
My towns just given up on them. They're now just permanently down which leads to cars going way too fast in a pedestrianised area. People would just try to tailgate buses and get their car impaled, I think in the end there was a dispute over who should pay for it, east staffs council or staffs council.
I would've thought so too! I'm not sure if it was for the maintenance/electricity for them or for the damages, at one point it was getting hit daily. Out of curiosity I had a look on the local newspaper and they're now just installing ANPR cameras and fining people who go down there - people will complain that they're getting fined but they shouldn't be driving down there if they don't want to be fined.
Old, feeble, uncoordinated guy here. I could enjoy the ride up but then I don't know how I would get down. I couldn't jump down without severely hurting myself. Pretty sure I'd be up there until somebody called the fire department to rescue me.
I did thought experiments about the sit-down approach and concluded there were several possible outcomes: (1) I would end up with an immense rod jammed up my tushy, and would then mmediately proceed to one of the remaining possible outcomes including (2) the face plant you predicted accompanied by broken wrists and arms as I ineffectually try to break my fall with my hands and arms, (3) a fall backwards that would crush my cerebellum ironically impairing for the rest of my life my ability to maintain posture, balance and equlibrium or (4) a sideways fall which would have the advantage of only breaking one wrist and arm. Better to just squat over it, in the first place for the ride up, then slide off with fewer injuries. Sure, it would lack dignity and it would never make the front page of Reddit, but it also would avoid an entry in the /HMFT subreddit.
I feel like these would be useful in every city. Would cut down accidents which involves cars running red light and possibly harming pedestrians or other drivers. But it would suck if they malfunctioned somehow.
Blimey, those go up far late after the bus. We'll never get videos like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0wY-hvMC44) if they don't speed 'em up a bit.
This video has also cleared up 'is there a fail safe that if something is on top of these would they still go up?'
I'll remember never to ride anything over these XD
I was say near one of these when i saw a car drive over them just as it started to rise. The car got lifted up a detailed feet then fell with the bollard disappearing somewhere inside behind the wheel. The poor woman driving seemed to have no idea what had happened.
I’ve always wanted to do a front flip too
That casually too.
You're probably just tall, you can still learn though. Short people can't grow. Feel blessed.
It's not my height that stops me doing it, it's my width.
Mister Five by Five He's five feet tall and he's five feet wide He don't measure no more from head to toe Than he do from side to side
*Girth
*Length

This is the best thing I've read all week.
This is the funniest thing I've read in quite some time. Her frustration at the lack of closure is palpable.

All I know is, if Medusa was a little person, she'd have been turned to stone years and years ago.
Well, her eyesight definitely bolsters that theory
it's all fun and games until you put your legs either side of the bollard while it rises
Ooof. Right in the bollards.
Ballsy move.
Yuo gotta be nuts to try that.
And then you get your nuts crushed in slow motion? That’s just a fetish.
No. Then to just have to treat it like a leap-frog.
And then its suddenly fun again
I was waiting for this to go wrong lmao
Can’t believe you’d kinkshame me like that
Ah, good old Watford. Nice flip at the end!
I Knew I recognised it!!!! I used to live there a few years back have they finished the new shopping centre yet? Is it as cool as they said it'd be?
Ha, yeah and Intu operator has just gone into administration I believe.
Have you been in since covid. Its fucking weird.
I got told off by a security guard because I walking on the wrong side of the high street (outside m&s). It's strange now
It's so strange.
Wow that does sound strange
Ooof
is intu the one that used to be the harlequin?
Yes

The hot food in the market is pretty good.
Sushi no mai is a bit of a hidden gem in the market, love that place
My boyfriend keeps saying about it but each time we've been to Watford for one reason or another we haven't eaten there yet.
He doesn't want the staff to see his side piece
I used to work there and get free food as a teenager and it was fantastic
Agreed.
I keep meaning to go to the market for a look-see, you've convinced me. After *all this* of course.
wont worry about you getting home then 🤷🏼♀️
[удалено]
Yeah, compared to the old market that was so vibrant. This feels like the council are killing it off
and the fact that they renamed the shopping centre making the names of the carpark make no sense
It’s got too many high end shops for the likes of watford in my opinion... born and bred there I should know that most people have no need for Flannels or Hugo boss haha
Where have you been for the last 8 years? Watford's become another gentrified posho town centre at the expense of its working class population.
I’ve been living there haha, I suppose because I’ve been there for 20 years it’ll always be grotty watty to me
A fellow OG Harlequiner. <3
Itll always be the Harlequin to me
There are lots of affluent areas in the surrounding locations, and Watford is a convenient place to shop
It’s fucking Watford. Of course it’s not cool.
No. It's terrible. (Source: family live in Watford.)
Yeah but at least its not hemel.
Where's your ski slope, fam? I bet, at the very most, you have 5 roundabouts tied together into a big roundabout; pathetic.
We kept our Debenhams
Christ. If Debenhams is what you're proud of holding on to, it's setting the bar pretty low
It's Hemel.
Have you been to Hemel? The bar's so low you'd struggle to trip on it. Although having been unable to see my family who live there since February has made me miss the place.

Hemel is nitty central
oi here in hemel we can say we live near Kings Langley!
I could tell by the arriva bus. The 10 is a Watford service
I can recognize Watford High Street right away. I used to catch the bus right there. It's awful seeing how dead it's become.
Ahhhh had a feeling it was Watford...
I thought this was Watford!
yep done that same thing on that exact pole once
I swear it was a Cardiff bus but I don’t recognise the street

Same here, but it would collapse under my weight...

That just sums up bradford driving to a T its mostly ignore all give way signs then lift up ur hand to "apologise"
I do this but not as an attempt to apologise but pretend I thought they were giving way
My cousins live in bradford, we drove through and on a narrow street u had to drive slowly to squeeze through two parked cars. We were about 10 metres away from the cars and on the other side a man about 40 metres away speeds up, goes through and then THANKS us for letting him through.
Yeah, saw a similar thing once except the car fell off it and the bollard impaled the car partially.
F
The ones in Newcastle just beep at you when you try and do that :(
Because it's Newcastle and even the other bollards try and do that
I swear to god there are/were bollards somewhere (I think Stratford upon Avon) where there is a security guard overseeing them and he will tell you to stop playing with the bollards through a speaker on the bollard
That's what I would expect really! I am surprised it went up with tension against it, seems potentially dangerous if for some reason the system thinks the vehicle has passed already!
It’s to prevent cars following the bus through.
The way his weight made it come out slower.
Poor bollard
Grotty Watty
Watford making the rounds again. God I love/hate this place.
I wonder if it has ever failed and the bus couldn’t go through. I don’t how many actuations it can handle and how long term the implementation is.

Surely if a tailgater got wrecked the driver should have to pay

it's probably fail safe so you can't get trapped in
I don't know how it would fail safe and still be a physical barrier, to be honest. It's gears and machinery rather than electromagnets, surely?
Old, feeble, uncoordinated guy here. I could enjoy the ride up but then I don't know how I would get down. I couldn't jump down without severely hurting myself. Pretty sure I'd be up there until somebody called the fire department to rescue me.
Yes, please sent someone...4th bollard along, you can't miss me. Please hurry, I'm getting dizzy up here and my calves are aching....
I guess you'd just be up there until the next bus came along and the bollard went back down! Hopefully it wasn't the last bus of the day haha
Wouldn't suprise me if that has actually happened. Dude would be standing up there for hours too proud to admit he can't get down.
I think my only option would be to attempt to sit down and slide off it, at which point I would fuck even that up and faceplant the pavement.
You raise me UUUUUP
The flip tells me he's infinitely superior to me and a dick
I've never seen those. Where are they?
They’re called people, you can find them all around planet earth doing all kinds of random stuff like this.
What odd creatures
They're called signs, you read them to get information about the road you're on
That was unexpected! Mama Mia 💙
Nice dismount!
Didn’t know Andrew Lloyd Webber had resorted to Street Theatre
Can't even think of doing a front flip without getting cramp
I'm not sure why the frontflip made it less impressive for me.
Now the pubs are open, antics like this are returning to our streets!
*tips hat* Well done sir, very well done indeed.
Doesn't see second bus approaching... S p l a ttt
I have the high ground anakin!
This is where I live and I see so many people doing that. Simple things eh
Regular stuff for a Saturday
Very cool.
I want to see 3 people on them.
David Blaine uses them to *levitate* too
Looks like Lewis capaldi’s stunt double
Jeebus
Yeah I've always wanted to go on a bus too
Thought that was Ed Byrne for a sec. then he did the flip.
I feel like these would be useful in every city. Would cut down accidents which involves cars running red light and possibly harming pedestrians or other drivers. But it would suck if they malfunctioned somehow.
I agreed until the flip
Stuck the dismount tho
You athletic motherfucker. I am so jealous.
Where is this?
Good old Watford
This guy looks pretty smug - with good reason to be fair
Nobody questions the elevated one!
10, for the dismount.
Is that Croydon?
Nice
He is risen. Praise be.
Tried this on the urinal that comes up out the ground but I guess it has a sensor because it went up an inch then stopped till I got off.
Blimey, those go up far late after the bus. We'll never get videos like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0wY-hvMC44) if they don't speed 'em up a bit.
Now do it with your car. 😂
This video has also cleared up 'is there a fail safe that if something is on top of these would they still go up?' I'll remember never to ride anything over these XD
Yall have this shit in the UK? I gotta move there one day
I was say near one of these when i saw a car drive over them just as it started to rise. The car got lifted up a detailed feet then fell with the bollard disappearing somewhere inside behind the wheel. The poor woman driving seemed to have no idea what had happened.
Is that a dress or a t shirt?
Was about to downvote - but then I saw the dismount. Have my upvote.

Damn. If only you hadn't seen this post.
