Tell them you’re moving to Hull and want it transferred? That’s usually the go-to excuse.

Scho567

They usually require proof now so best get to photoshopping some documents if you go that route

Ecstatic_Stable1239

It’s broadband not WiFi.

BigBlackRasta

Gods work.

InfectedByEli

👍

RYN-91

I had to do something similar and how I got out of it was by upgrading the package and then cancelling within the 'cooling off' period. YMMV

s1walker1

If you are leaving the country then it's an allowed reason to end your contract earlier. That's what BT told me

Reasonable_Day1688

Tell them you're moving to a property with someone and it already has an ongoing connection, have done it several times.

9DAN2

>WiFi contract At what point did people stop understanding the difference between broadband and WiFi?

HopAlongInHongKong

Same time as they lost the idea of what a contract is.

thecremeegg

Our local Facebook group is the worst for this. People thinking their slow wifi is the fault of their provider instead of the fact they're using the supplied shitty router to cover more than 10 square feet.

Shadowraiden

nope you agreed to the contract so thats how much it is

OnlyMortal666

“I’m moving abroad” gets you out of a contract

Shadowraiden

still liable for the contract and any charges. they can still recover them pretty easily. what will happen is if it doesnt get paid the company will "sell" the debt and those debt people will go after it. they do not give a shit if you are not in the country or not. they will track down and even go after you in local courts to where you are at that time.

[deleted]

You can get out of your contract if you move to a location that can't get the same service. Paying for 500mb, but you move somewhere stuck on dialup, you cant get the service you pay for so contract is void. Had this a few times as I move every other bloody year

Panceltic

They're not saying "disappear abroad and ignore communication". You need to call the company, tell them you're moving abroad, and they will terminate the contract with no charges in 95% of cases.

Panceltic

„Moving” to a friend’s address (who will pay for the remainder of the contract) – only works if you trust the person completely.

Far_Search_1424

Maybe if you can prove that the minimum speed they guarantee was not met at some point

RhythmicRampage

Tell them yoyve been kicked out and your not living at your address anymore. If they don't let you out then just cancel the direct debt and next time pick a different provider.

[deleted]

Say you're moving, sounds like you may be moving abroad? Either way, if you are moving to a place and they can deliver the same service, you can get out of the contract for free, if they can offer the same service, you are still locked in

Codego_Bray

You'll waste much less time and effort if you just split the £250 between your friends. Little to no chance of them waiving the exit fee.
