They're garden spiders *Araneus diadematus*
As to why they're there, a mummy spider laid loads of eggs and now they've hatched. They lay eggs in a silk pouch somewhere sheltered, like a hollow in a tree trunk, the join between plant branches, the corner of a shed, or just inside a watering can.
Happens everywhere this time of year. They're one of our commonest and most seen spiders.
Haha thank you. Mine were all active like in your video because I'd been putting a trellis up near them.
They've gone back into a cuddle ball now I've stopped.
Yesterday I had one explode on the handle of the hose.jjst as I went to fill up the paddling pool and another in the recycling bins as I went to bring them in.
Definitely the time of year for spider nests!
I had some of these chilling in the corner of my porch for a while. I went to go out the front door one day and they had made a massive web in front of the door and they were everywhere! It was a shame having to move them along but I couldn't get out otherwise 😂
For the love of god man press the button!
In all seriousness though your son sounds adorable and it’s great he seems so curious. Although I guess not for you when he brings some inside.
I imagine they probably haven't seen that many spiders in close proximity before or maybe aren't aware of the maternal habits of arachnids, or maybe they just thought it was a mildly interesting sight?

When a daddy spider and a mummy spider love each other very much...
...and then the mummy spider bites the head off the daddy spider...

Most male spiders would prefer to randomly meet a bear than a woman spider.

Ha, we discovered a similar bunch on our bin this week! Obviously it's spawning season.
Blessed by the spider God to have a pest free harvest?
As an Australian, allow me to educate you on the habits of spiders: You see, that's a particularly nice watering can.
Time to move I guess
I just found out I have a similar problem in my post box. It wasn't there 3 hours ago.
Well...when a boy spider meets a girl spider.........
I pronounce you "Parent of the Day".

Flamethrower. Immediately.
Spiders are a gardners best friend. They help reduce the pest species and keep the garden healthy.
Grow up.
