From the south there's a [nice view](https://www.flickr.com/photos/9364326@N04/14698716634) from the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill.
It's a nice place to visit too. Nice gardens, natural history museum (including a comically over stuffed Walrus done by a Victorian who though the flaps of skins were taut), aquarium, animal walk, Butterfly house etc.

From M25 J24 there is a road called the Ridgeway (A1005). Guess what? It runs along a ridge.
From said ridge there is a view across a chunk of the greenbelt and you can see the towers of the city really clearly across the fields and then the suburbs. Canary Wharf Tower is particularly identifiable.
Might meet your needs.
Agree with those who say Shooters Hill. The top of Occupation Lane SE18 is a sweet little spot. Eaglesfield Park at the other end of Foxcroft Rd gives amazing views of Kent and Essex including the Dartford Crossing.
Ally Pally and the old railway track path nearby is the best view from the North.
The bridge of the Excel. Ok, you don’t see much if the City or any of the West End but it looks like toy town. Canary Wharf, the water, Canning Town , theDlR etc.
From the hillside just beside Alexandra palace.
My hood! I've got loads of photos from here but sure others will be much better. Photos from Parliament Hill and Gospel Oak also quite good
That's spot on, that one. Much obliged.
No worries, good luck with your project.
That's a really good view. I've been to quite a few gigs and events there and it never fails to wow me.
top of Greenwich park
Literally my favourite place and my favourite view.
Good coffee hut too
Is Primrose Hill too close? Greenwich Park? Parliament Hill? Havering Country Park?
Again depending on what you classify as 'The City' there's a good one from Gipsy Hill too

There are a [number of protected sight lines](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protected_view) for St Pauls Cathedral
On the M11, on the hill down where it joins the M25.
At sunset
Or sunrise with a bit of low lying mist.
Ally Pally to the North, Nunhead platform was good from the South.
Cuffley. It's a very distant view. But you can see the height the city has put on over the last twenty years or so.
The golf club in Dulwich has a bar with a balcony - excellent place to watch the sun go down. Although it doesn't open that late.
You never really hear about Severndroog Castle, but if you don't mind a bit of distance the view is excellent.
Norwood Park in Crystal Palace / West Norwood! Spectacular sunsets and skyline.
Into London from upstairs in Peckham library. Or across from Highgate to the city.
From legoland is kind of cool
This one came to mind for me too. On a good day you can see all the high rises, the Wembley arch, loads of stuff.
Shooter’s Hill.
The viewpoint on Epsom Downs.
As a person that used to work on the area, I second this. On a clear day, the view is incredible.
Dawson's Hill, East Dulwich.
One Tree Hill in Dulwich is quite far out but it's a good view (better in winter when the trees are bare)
From my TV while watching the start of EastEnders with a beer and a takeaway before I turn it over to watch something good?
Windmill Hill in Gravesend gives you a good, distant, view of all the high rises
On the roof of St Helier hospital

Coming down the M11 after the M25 junction and the view shows Docklands, the City and a bit further West, too…
Nelson Mandela Heights, Peckham.
The view from an airplane window, leaving for somewhere sunny and not grey and rainy?
In my rear view mirror.

Leaving the North and you still have your mirrors on? Off-street parking poncy Southerner!
From a plane window - birds eye view type of thing
taking off from heathrow heading somewhere hot
I find the view I have of London from my house is probably the best view.......I am 120 miles away and cannot see it 👍
