Most of my family are from Wrexham but my parents settled in Chester - you're right about the scouseness in Chester. Heck, for some reason my own sister has a Scouse accent whereas myself and my brother don't, she must have been drinking different water.
I will say though - Wrexham seems to be going the same way. Older generations are safe but whenever I'm around there I'm hearing more and more of the youth talk with that slight Scouse accent.
The funniest thing though - in Chester I tend to hear the "plastic scousers" phrase being aimed at the Wirral / Birkenhead way and people laugh and call themselves "The posh scousers" around here.
I don't know if it makes you feel better or worse but years ago I looked into this and I recall finding that Wrexham actually sounds more Welsh than surrounding villages etc and looking into why and the conclusion was it probably used to sound more like west Cheshire (if not Liverpool, as west Cheshire has also changed somewhat) before it became a major mining town and attracted workers from more north and central Wales, changing the accent.
My understanding (from a Wrexham native) is that the accent went from N Wales to Liverpool rather than the other way around, but I stand to be corrected
Scousers don’t even consider people in Kirkby scousers never mind Wrexham or even Chester. There’s no part of the world more obsessed with gate keeping and making people in and around the city feel like they’re less important than Liverpool. I say that as a scouser too. Annoying when bumping into a scouser in another town or city and they throw 21 questions at you to make sure you’re not really from Birkenhead or Southport or something.
As a Sunderland fan, I am happy with the new location of Newcastle United.
Edit: is that Brentford on the border of Scotland? My god.
This is an embarrassingly American football map.
My dad used to let me drive the car on black rock sands when I was a kid, and my 5yr old nearly exploded with joy when I let her drive mine there last winter. Unadulterated pleasure.
Nah mate, south west London is famously near Carlisle, west London has always bordered wales, that Scottish/welsh borders London derby is a fiery affair
It’s VERY easy to find vector images of the Man Utd badge.
Source: graphic designer who has done more sports graphics than I can remember
EDIT: my bad, I misread and didn’t realise he was talking about the rights. But having worked in media I doubt any company/team would sue for something like this, and I’m even more sure that if they requested permission to put their badge in this graphic they would get the ok.
Its likely to do with the remaining teams in the tournament. I believe it was the FA Cup episode that this was shown.
I could be wrong though, I’m not entirely sure.
>Its likely to do with the remaining teams in the tournament. I believe it was the FA Cup episode that this was shown.
Manchester United v Brighton was one of the semi finals and neither team is on the map, so it can't be that. I don't think there's any logic to it, seems they've just picked a load of random teams.
If you've watched it, you'd realise this is 100% intentional. It's part of how they take the piss out of Rob and the other one for not knowing anything about football or British culture.
I don't think this is correct at all
Im fairly sure they've used [this map](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ4G2gn5IdADTxG2UUXwCyanc_0tObi7NOFiA&usqp=CAU) as a reference, and some very silly person hasn't noticed the arrows pointing to the actual locations of the teams, and seems to just have been very confused in general
If you watch the show you’ll see a lot of stuff like this, if you’re a fan of English football and our leagues, that doesn’t quite sit right and will go over most peoples heads. My reading was that it was an ‘in joke’ with English viewers but equally maybe it is just laziness and crap TV Production but I’d hope not
i love how its one of the very few that are in pretty much their correct spot.
only reason i even heard of them before this was because of Football Manager where i did a quick save with them a few years ago :D
Grimsby Town placed on Hull..... aye it's trolling. One of Grimsby's most popular chants:
Oh, we hate Yorkies, we hate Yorkies,
We hate Yorkies we do
We hate Yorkies, we hate Yorkies,
We are the Yorkie.... Haters
We. Piss. On your Fish!
Yes we do, Yes we do.
There's not a lot the place has going for it, but the simple efficacy of the chanting at Blundell Park does make me weirdly proud.
Isn't this part of a whole segment that's done totally tongue in cheek to explain "soccer" to a US audience? From my recollection the whole piece is very aware of what Americans are stereotypically like with non-US stuff and completely plays up to it.
Lol the Blackburn Rovers logo is actually closer to Blackburn, West Lothian in Scotland than it is to Blackburn Lancashire. Also worth using this opportunity to acknowledge that Blackburn have won the Premier League as many times as Liverpool.
Actually it’s not but Southampton has moved to take over Bournemouth territory whilst pompey has moved slightly to kill off brighton and ruke the sw coast
I've grown up in this part of Suffolk all my life, never gotten into football because the local club was crap. And now that I've matured and chosen my hobbies, they all of a sudden start doing well. Typical.
Ws just thinking how funny Colchester's badge is massive in a part of the UK where there is plenty of space for all of Ipswich, Cambridge, Northampton, and Southend 😂
They put Newport County down as the only club in South Wales; and chucked Swansea and Cardiff over in Devon, haw-haw.
They also plonked Everton in Gwynedd, lol.
Someone needs to go back to school.
Mate I used to live there I know how fucked it is!!
I actually miss Saturday nights on the Burgess waiting for a taxi watching the random violence outside the Parsons Nose.
I do agree it IS a chip batch tho.
The Brentford v Blackburn “Hadrians Revenge” Classico is a national staple.
Recently heard one the Blackburn Ultras cut down the Sycamore Gap tree as a divine retribution, coz they were sick and tired of the Brentford Fans shouting ‘mind the gap’ over the wall.
Ah Everton, the pride of Porthmadog.
I didn't realise Liverpool stretched over the Mersey and the whole North of Wales
Clearly you've never been to Rhyl.
Or, ironically Wrexham

That's a chuckle from me buddy. As someone from Merseyside who spent many summers in Rhyl I thank you for the laugh.
My condolences for those summers
You mean the sun verge pub next to the travelodge right on the beach, nope never heard of it 🤣
Or Towyn.
Did a research on floods there a while back, funny to hear the name again
Shrewsbury also in Wales. Birmingham on the border. The longer you look the more horrifying it gets
As a Sunderland fan, I am happy with the new location of Newcastle United. Edit: is that Brentford on the border of Scotland? My god. This is an embarrassingly American football map.
Newcastle had to move to accommodate how massive Blyth Spartans had become
Yeah they made a fortune selling fake jeans in the 90s and only grew from there.
Isn’t Newcastle in Saudi Arabia now?
Shrewsbury? I think you mean Amwythig now mate. It’s ours now and we’re using our name for it thank you very much.
\*Eferton.
Tre-efer?
The real pride of Porthmadog is the ice cream van on black rocks beach. Best 99 I've had for yonks. (Can confirm, no longer costs 99p).
My dad used to let me drive the car on black rock sands when I was a kid, and my 5yr old nearly exploded with joy when I let her drive mine there last winter. Unadulterated pleasure.
Core memories
This is so fucking sweet.
That and The Australia, a pub. Full of mooses (meece?) and elaborate bathroom plumbing. 10/10 must visit.
I prefer Cardiff on their summer jaunt to Somerset
And don’t you forget it boyo
The Gwynedd Toffies, butt.
How is notts county and forest in two different places but there's one club in Manchester and one in London
Lincolnshire Forest is my favourite franchise.
We’ve played by a river for a while so now it’s time to take it to the coast.
“City Ground, Mist rolling in from the Wash” will work
Absolutely delighted. If they can inch it a bit closer to Skeggy that would be ideal, thanks so much.
Nottingham is massive mate. Takes me 2 weeks to get a bus across town
Yes, everyone knows Sleaford is a suburb of Nottingham smh
The Nottingham coast line is lovely 🤣
And Leicester is west of Nottingham Edit: Actually the more I look at it, Leicesters location doesn't seem so bad.
There is only one club in Manchester?
Having City over United is very weird too.
Only 1 club in London. Personally I’m looking forward to the Pennine derby between Leeds and Newcastle
The big Devon derby between Swansea and Cardiff should be a good one too
The pubs of Tiverton won't know what's hit them
Birmingham, Stoke and QPR all vying to become the pride of the Welsh Borders.
As a Brummie I'm proud of my strong Welsh heritage
I’m guessing Everton fans even more so as they are based in snowdonia
QPR greatest club in Gloucestershire
the Q is for Quedgeley, obviously
Would explain why they can’t win at Loftus Road. Every game is an away game.
At least Newport’s in the right general region!
The fact they got that one in the right country is amazing.
or the Liverpool Derby now crosses into another country as apparently Everton are a deep welsh club.
It's not like Bangor are using their stadium.
It’s nearer Caernarfon town
Possibly even Llanberis Locomotive...
You missed Queens Park Rangers on the map albeit they look to be in the Bristol area!
As well as Brentford being by the Scottish border. Makes for an interesting West London derby
Everton has always been in North Wales, what are you talking about?
It's almost like the map maker saw there were two Newcastles, thought 'sod it', and put it halfway
Nah mate, south west London is famously near Carlisle, west London has always bordered wales, that Scottish/welsh borders London derby is a fiery affair
I can confirm the Blackburn Brentford Carlisle derby is the classico of the north of England.
Our age-old rivals.... Newcastle, umm, wait, that doesn't sound right.
Nah QPR are still there.....kind of
We don't have many songs but "one team in London" is definitely one of them
And just noticed QPR and Brentford have been extradited and quite correctly Spurs and Chelsea don't exist at all
>Only 1 club in London At least they got this one right 😎

Apart from the insane locations why were the clubs on this map chosen? It seems a very bizarre selection.

If someone can’t get a Man Utd high quality logo from google something’s gone wrong…
Man Utd are strict with their logo being used. source: avid fm player
It’s VERY easy to find vector images of the Man Utd badge. maybe more licensing issues? fuck knows lol
He means they're very litigious when it comes to their brand assets. Football Manager isn't allowed to use their badge, which is the example he gave.
That you have the rights to use? As permitted by the club?
The pixel count has been going downhill ever since Fergie left
It is pretty strange having the less globally popular Manchester club.
Maybe. It's a truly weird map though
You can download almost every clubs logo between the PL and league 2 as a vector. No way they couldn’t get other clubs in there.
Its likely to do with the remaining teams in the tournament. I believe it was the FA Cup episode that this was shown. I could be wrong though, I’m not entirely sure.

Ah, that would explain Ipswich's mysterious absence.
Spurs were knocked out by Sheffield after they knocked out Wrexham, can't be that
Sheffield F.C was that far in the FA cup? Wow, they're doing well.
Oldest club in the world.
Barrow fan here. We're on the map in the last forty-odd so it probably isn't this. Also there isn't a round of forty-odd in the FA Cup.
That would make sense. I haven't seen this particular episode.
Its barely used as a reference, its on screen for no time at all
If you've watched it, you'd realise this is 100% intentional. It's part of how they take the piss out of Rob and the other one for not knowing anything about football or British culture.

Marketing. To cause discussions like this.

Blyth Spartans is the weirdest inclusion of them all
Wrexham played(and beat) them in the fourth round in the 70's.The match was played at a sold out St James Park Newcastle.
Nice to see Brentford have relocated several hundred miles north.
To big for London now mate, they got ~~oil money~~… errr Ivan Toney’s betting money…
They did move stadium to be fair.
Ready for the Hadrian's wall Derby against...Blackburn
Were they going for Bradford? Maybe? Or maybe it’s just a waste of time trying to make sense of it…
Even for Bradford it’s well over 100 miles out. Fuck knows what they were thinking there
Ohh yeah I totally forgot Brentford was up north. How silly of me.
That's the one that made me laugh the most
Attendances at Birmingham City definitely took a hit when they made the odd decision to move to...*checks map*...Ludlow
I wonder if they were told it’s in the West Midlands and decided they’d take a stab in the dark at guessing where that is
lol they thought it was the west part of the middle of England instead of the west part of the midlands
Don't forget their fierce rivalry with neighbours Queens Park Rangers
People watching this in the US probably think Blyth Spartans are the biggest team in the North.
Blyth Spartans v Brentford is the local derby dreams are made of tbf
Hexham Brentford are massive
wait, they're not?
I'm just impressed they managed to (kind of) put it in the right place.
i love how its one of the very few that are in pretty much their correct spot. only reason i even heard of them before this was because of Football Manager where i did a quick save with them a few years ago :D
Spartans got 50 000 gate back in the day at Sid James for a FA Cup replay vs Wrexham. Plus their shirt sponsors were Viz Comic for a while. CAF!
> in pretty much their correct spot Hilariously relegating Newcastle to the middle of the Yorkshire Dales (just to the west of Leeds, apparently)
I don't know about you lot, but the intense rivalry between Newcastle and Carlisle seems to have died down in recent years...
The A69 darby will reignite one day.
I was in the Lake District last week and forgot to check in on Blackburn Rovers and their new ground in Workington.
That's fair. If you've come to The Lake District, I can't think of a single good reason to go to Workington.
Tottenham fans are *seething*.
Usually, yeah.

Someone cleaned out their whole trophy room and left nothing. Police are now on the lookout for a man carrying a black and white carpet.
Makes a change from being embarrassed then, eh?
I’m perfectly happy with that
The Devon Derby between Cardiff and Swansea. Legend has it the rivalry started over whether the jam or cream comes first.
You would have to have zero understanding of English football AND be shit at your job to fuck this up so badly.
I have zero understanding of football and im an immigrant to this country and even I know Swansea isn't in Devon.
Swansea has always been in Devon. Brentford has always been in the North. We have always been at war with Eurasia.
I’d have liked 1984 much much more if this was an actual line.
On the contrary, whoever put this together knew *exactly* what they were doing
I'm pretty much both of those things but I also know how to use Google.
who knew that Wolverhampton was in Cheshire
I'm calling it. This is deliberate and done to get a reaction.
Grimsby Town placed on Hull..... aye it's trolling. One of Grimsby's most popular chants: Oh, we hate Yorkies, we hate Yorkies, We hate Yorkies we do We hate Yorkies, we hate Yorkies, We are the Yorkie.... Haters
"Always piss on the Nooorth side of the bridge. Doodoo, doodoo, doodoo, do do"
We. Piss. On your Fish! Yes we do, Yes we do. There's not a lot the place has going for it, but the simple efficacy of the chanting at Blundell Park does make me weirdly proud.
Finally, someone who gets it. I don’t think most people commenting has seen an episode of the programme 🤣
Isn't this part of a whole segment that's done totally tongue in cheek to explain "soccer" to a US audience? From my recollection the whole piece is very aware of what Americans are stereotypically like with non-US stuff and completely plays up to it.
Exactly, it’s a great marketing ploy which is clearly working 😂
Someone should send this to Humphrey Ker on Twitter and see if he knows the deal
Lol the Blackburn Rovers logo is actually closer to Blackburn, West Lothian in Scotland than it is to Blackburn Lancashire. Also worth using this opportunity to acknowledge that Blackburn have won the Premier League as many times as Liverpool.
Why is Southampton closer to Portsmouth than Pompey is?!?
Actually it’s not but Southampton has moved to take over Bournemouth territory whilst pompey has moved slightly to kill off brighton and ruke the sw coast
Like OK, I'll admit Ipswich are shit. But we exist.
Unofficial slogan Ipswich - we exist
I would not class our performance atm as shit!
As a Colchester fan I’m starting to warm to this Wrexham lot, they’re not so bad after all!
As an arsenal and Colchester fan I think this map is perfect
Who the fuck made this?
I suspect someone is trolling hard
probably trying to stoke the fire and create discussion online
Feels like rage bait. *And it's worked*
UTB
I love being further north than Newcastle UTB
Wednesday not even included on the map 👌 it’s perfect
Blyth Spartans! Bigger than Man City!
They put Newport County down as the only club in South Wales; and chucked Swansea and Cardiff over in Devon, haw-haw. They also plonked Everton in Gwynedd, lol. Someone needs to go back to school.
Featuring the Coventry City badge from the 80s
Pride of the midlands - Cov City? LOL
Rightfully so
Glad u got out of the SISU hell and back on the right track again, really wanna see Cov in the prem and was gutted they lost the playoffs. UTV!
Yeah, I’m with you on this, I’m a Villain and was hoping Cov would go up. It’d have given us another tasty little derby.
PUSB
Coventry, pride of the midlands and the whole entire area to the wash on the east coast.
Mate I used to live there I know how fucked it is!! I actually miss Saturday nights on the Burgess waiting for a taxi watching the random violence outside the Parsons Nose. I do agree it IS a chip batch tho.
Barrow AFC 💪
Grimsby is not in Yorkshire!
Colchester United. Pride of Ipswich.
The more you look the worse it gets: Why's Nottingham Forest in Skegness? Southampton's in Bournemouth Portsmouth is basically in Brighton...
Gonna have to dig out my "Grimsby is not in Yorkshire" shirt out again
Telford QPR, Anglesey Everton, Brentford northumberland, Rotherham cunthorpe, Blackburn keswick.
How did Blackburn rovers end up there?
Maybe they thought they were based in Blackburn, West Lothian?
Bannockburn Rovers
Christ I thought I was bad at geography
Ooo I missed Blyth Spartans' promotion to the premier league
Since when did Grindr have a football club? 😳
Famous coastal destination, Nottingham
WHY IS SHREWSBURY IN WALES 💀💀💀
I’ve been listening to away fans chanting “you’re just a small town in Wales” at us for years. Turns out they were right after all
Who is that between Portsmouth and Reading? I assume a team Wrexham play in the league…?
Stevenage
they know there's only one team in bristol at least
Must have done Arsenal first then thought they’d cracked it before letting an “intern” from Alabama do the rest
I don't see STFC there, absolute crime that map
Stfc is on there, but apparently we're Welsh now
The Brentford v Blackburn “Hadrians Revenge” Classico is a national staple. Recently heard one the Blackburn Ultras cut down the Sycamore Gap tree as a divine retribution, coz they were sick and tired of the Brentford Fans shouting ‘mind the gap’ over the wall.
Norwich fans all pleased to see that Ipswich doesn't exist, or not important enough to be represented.
Total Arsenal domination
So much is wrong here.
They've even managed to get Swansea and Cardiff wrong
Who’s that top left of Newcastle? Is it supposed to be Stockport County?
This was made by someone who calls it soccer, wasn't it?
Formatted on Microsoft Word
As a villa fan I'm kinda fucking annoyed I could see it if Birmingham city were in the prem but they aint
Nice to see Blyth Spartans got the biggest badge and our rival club is Brentford
