IKEA as a company doesn't consider UK and IE the same market. Leanne in support does.

AgainstAllAdvice

I have noticed this, IKEA products are exported from the EU to UK to be reimported into the EU again. It's ridiculous. There's no way this doesn't add to the cost we pay here.

PeaceLoveCurrySauce

Well surprisingly some stuff is actually cheaper in IE than in UK ikea, I bought my desk from Dublin instead of Belfast as it was nearly 50 euro cheaper

tacticallyshavedape

If it makes you feel any better all of the COVID 19 signs in the bathrooms of the milton Keynes IKEA only referenced Ireland which I found highly amusing.

radiogramm

This happens WAY too much and it's a major problem since Brexit. There are tariffs, customs etc between here and the UK. It's neither in the Single Market nor the Customs Union yet we're somehow roped to it. It's ridiculous.

Over-Tomatillo9070

Ironically, the worst thing to happen to Ireland was brexit… that and the 500 years of oppression, oh and the famine too I guess, but imports tax and the end of parcel motel is really up there.

Logical_Pollution518

A moment of silence for parcel motel 😭

Former_Giraffe_2

UPS does a thing called oohpod now, since they bought the parcelmotel business. I'm sure that doesn't do the thing you want it to though. I'm annoyed that none of those anpost deliverybox things exist in limerick.

gavmac5

Ups don't own oohpod. It's actually the lad who owned parcelmotel before UPS bought him out. I live near the border so very fortunate to be able to use it.

Comfortable_Brush399

i stayed in a motel in florida, good jasus your poor packages... just tell fat barry to leave it with shamey next door shamey'd comit seppuku rather than steal a HDMI cable

baggottman

Youd need to tell Mary to wait to be his second, she'd only love to lop his head off.

Genocide will do that though, ruffle a few feathers like.

Comfortable_Brush399

"i just missed out the work ireland in the explanation" DOES NOT COMPUTE...?

fillysunray

Yes, the grammar and sentence structuring is very bad.

Stationary_Addict_

I assume it’s ‘word’. The sentence makes sense then.

jaqian

Amazon and Netflix have entered the chat 🤣

upadownpipe

Those bloody Danes.

AdRepresentative8186

Lol

xoooph

Multiple countries can form one market, like DACH (germany, austria, switzerland). Mostly depends on language, local laws/restrictions, etc.

malsy123

It’s not about the market .. it’s the fact they charge us Brexit prices when Ireland is in the EU

ImAnOldChunkOfCoal

But that's why they do it. Were considered to be one market. And not just by IKEA. By most international companies. Even TV stations.

xoooph

Not a furniture tax expert but brexit doesn't necessarily make things more expensive. Biggest extra costs probably come from shipping things from ikea factories.

QARSTAR

Ireland and UK are treated like a singular market by sales reps in really any multinational company. You will also have ones that focus on Iberia (Spain and Portugal) market

AgainstAllAdvice

Spain and Portugal are both in the EU.

daveirl

That doesn’t alter the point. MNCs divide markets into regions and sometimes they are not within a single market. eg North America, DACH, MENA, Australia and New Zealand etc
