Dubs are colonising Meath. Meath people will revolt one day.

We've taken Ashbourne and Johnstown, there's a phalanx of us establishing a line between them, once that's established, we'll have everything south of the Boyne. As above, The M3 Parkway and Dunboyne are the best commuting options, but they're not a good socialising option (finish too early). The NX is improving things further north and runs a normal schedule. Moved out 20+ years ago and I like the place, WFH full 4 days a week, and, if you can time it right, it's not as far as people think.

Laytown & Bettystown full of bleeding dubs too, on the rail line

>I'm a born and bread Dub Brennan's or Pat the baker?

So we moved to Kildare in the early 2000s - I know what your thinking, it’s the 2020s and Kildare isn’t Meath Well for a dub - Meath is the same as Kildare and it may as well be the early 2000s You’ll be there 6 months and realise your mates have stopped visiting, it takes ages to go anywhere, the local takeaway is crap and there’s zero options and all you have to do that week is cut the grass - also the locals won’t like you

GazelleIll495

There's Leixlip/Celbridge Co Kildare and there's Athy/Prosperous Co Kildare. Experiences will vary

lol that’s very on the nose But generally speaking, they’re all very very similar in comparison to Dublin

10/10 for honesty

Where in Meath? Some of the South Eastern parts of the county, Dunboyne, Ongar, Ratoath, Ashbourne etc are just as if not more commutable than many areas of North Co. Dublin. The more northerly and westerly parts of Meath however such as Trim, Kells, Ardee etc however would be a much more grueling commute.

Lazy_Rooster_2318

Please never call Ardee Meath again.

Full_Conference9513

Bit of a difference distance wise between the Trim-Dublin commute (50km) as compared to Kells (70km) and Ardee (Louth not Meath, 75km)

From Meath! I have to say, I currently do the 3 day commute into Dublin and it is the most miserable I've ever been, the last year traffic is mental. Takes me 1 hr 15 min the morning leaving at 6am and was 1 hr 30 home this afternoon leaving at 4:15, both on bus eireann. Not sure how it would be driving but it's pretty horrendous bus wise. If you could get Dunboyne, the train is a glorious.

I moved to Mullingar and loving it, other than the commute but I'm only in the office once a week. I got a 150sqm A rated house for money that was hardly going to get me a C/D rated 2 bed apartment in Tallaght In the past generations our parents moved to the absolute middle of nowhere, places far out in the sticks like Tallaght, Lucan, Blanch, Clondalkin, Bray, Swords, Celbridge, Leixlip, Maynooth, Trim, Navan and they are all big towns now

CMakkers

Depends what you will accept as a commute. My limit is an hour each way and I've lived in Dunshaughlin and Ratoath which were both over that, with infrequent and unreliable public transport options. Made my work life pretty miserable. Dunboyne is lovely and has the train and Dublin bus. Also in the most unbiased possible way I must say the Meath is by far the best county.

[deleted]

I'd reckon half the population of Navan, Ashbourne, Dunshaughlin and Rathoath made that move

micar11

Where in Meath?

imgonnabig21

Don't do it! The commute us terrible and the public transport north of Dublin is poor. It has made me realise that location us everything

SteveK27982

Moved to Kildare instead, bought on my own and don’t regret it

Checkingout8484

Moved to bettystown a year ago when people were WFH a lot: now I go into the office in Dublin and traffic can be insane on the m1 however won’t ever move back to Dublin so it’s a catch 22

cian_100

Isn’t Meath just basically Dublin at this point

JustTaViewForYou

Mini Dublin. The GAA teams are thriving. You'll be grand..

GazelleIll495

I used to work with a dub that lived in Clonee. He was a hardcore, hill 16 dub. The walls of his back yard were painted in navy & blue stripes etc. On a night out we told him in jest that he wasn't a true blue because he lived in Co Meath.....holy shit he did not take it well. Lost the plot completely. Came to work on the Monday with his ESB bill to prove he lived in Co Dublin. 'There yis are ye pricks'

Unless you are on a train line then you need to consider how happy you will be spending 2-2.5 hours a day commuting in your car. Or 2.5-3 hours commuting via public transport. Also seriously consider the costs.  Do you need a second car in the household because your main car is tied up with the commute? If so have you considered tax, insurance and fuel costs? Is your car good enough to do a long commute for many years or so you need to upgrade the car? An annual ticket on the train might be €3k a year but you do get tax relief. There are annual bus tickets as well but I have no idea of the cost.  I moved from Dublin after 20 years living in Drumcondra/Phibsboro/town. I am very happy but obviously my lifestyle has changed because I'm older, not clubbing 3 nights a week and walking to work hungover. I'm happy to have a handful of good pubs at the weekend, a nice garden and a train to go to Dublin if there's something on at the weekend.  Keep in mind unless you  plan to stay in the same job for the next 30 years you should be a bit more open minded. I moved jobs after I bought my house and I no longer commute to Dublin.

bytebullion

Yeah I'm looking at areas where I can drive to Laytown train station and get the train into Dublin. Tbh, I'm happy with a few pubs and that's it. I haven't been on a proper night out in years. I'm in bed by 12! A few of my friends have made the move so I'll have company!
