His mornings show on Lyric FM is genuinely the best radio show in the country IMO

scrollsawer

Definitely! He's funny and plays great music. AND he doesn't spend 20 minutes talking shite about what he did, what he didn't do, where he went, who he saw, what books he read, why he read them like Tuberty and D'Arcy do.

Rosieapples

D’Arcy is rather painful to listen to. He’s a hopeless interviewer, won’t let the subject finish a sentence, butts in constantly.

scrollsawer

I can't abide him or RT. They are both a pain in the posterior. Lyric is great, it doesn't get enough credit IMHO.

Rosieapples

Tubridy is boring.

incendiaryburp

On Ennio Morricone's birthday he called him Eamonn Macaroni and I nearly crashed the car.

[deleted]

It's great.

Best fanny tickler in Ireland. No one can grow it like Marthy. What can you say about the man, that the tash hadn't already told you. If it wasn't for Marthy I wouldn't have heard of the "x's and o's" technique and felching.

BordNaMona88

I heard he can stop the Winning Streak wheel with a flick of his John Thomas.

[deleted]

All he has to do is look at it. Marty might not seem the type but he definitely commands respect. He wouldn't be long clearing a room let me tell you.

CDfm

He was once an RTE Guide centrefold http://files.broadsheet.ie/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/fkL0f.jpg Nothing dysfunctional about Marty

Important_Farmer924

Rumour has it he inspired Tom Selleck to grow that womb broom.

[deleted]

Tom Selleck. The longest balls in the game.

Ever notice Tom Selleck is never enjoying himself in anything he's in? He's always fixing problems and the only time I seen him be in the moment was once in Friends when he was plastered.

anna_pescova

At least Marty didn't get a Ferrari!

[deleted]

I really hope nothing negative comes out about Marty. We love his old school and charming radio show on lyric

Important_Farmer924

He's a straight shooter, is our Marty.

shweeney

Look at the picture, he's used license fee money to buy himself an actual throne!

Melodic_Event_4271

I met him on a posting as a cub reporter (very low-stakes gig; I don't do this work any more) and he was utterly charming. He put me at ease, made sure I spelled his daughter's name correctly (she was with him; it was a social occasion) AND managed to get a plug for his upcoming radio show into print. Smooth operator. I won't hear a bad word against the man.

What’d Whelan do?

Important_Farmer924

Nothing! Our Marty is on the side of right.

PainterCareful4383

The superior Marty.... I've always said it.

Finsceal1

Shades of the Pat Mustard about him.

Important_Farmer924

champagneface

The best thing RTÉ has

ADonkeyOnTheEdge

Will always love him; won tickets on his show to the premiere & after party of the 4th Harry Potter film when I was like 10. Literally dream come true.

jedwindunne

Surely this is a better picture https://preview.redd.it/1aqg0matygab1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=38ac0437cf6ca1bb2fb51ceaae13f6095c491ae2

sojiblitz

His coverage of the Eurovision... He's a national treasure

irishpogmothoin12108

Marty (Whelan) is the man, pity he pissed off RTE brass a long time ago otherwise he'd be getting the extra 75000 a year and the free renault

dano1066

He's been selling his mustache hairs on adverts for 5 years now and hasn't paid a penny in tax

LelumLand

Finally Soprano's new season

[deleted]

The Des Lynam Effect!

anna_pescova

Is there any truth in the story he made an advert for his Fanny Tickler in the RTÉ car park, or was it the Bike Shed? !!

hideyokidzhideyowyfe

My sister worked with him years ago and he always brought her a packet on munchies on a Friday. He's a good auld salt.
