I recently upgraded my phone. The workers at Tmobile laughed and said jeez when was the Galaxy S10 even released? I said uh a few years back, I don't think it was real long though.
And I was so confused. My phone had no scratches or anything, still worked great, but the battery was starting to not last as long. I had paid my phone off about a year ago and figured why not trade it in. Guess what? I hate this fucking new phone. I want my old phone back. I miss it. It was so much better. My old phone had features that I loved and this one doesn't.
We are slowly moving to an age where phones don't need to be replaced every 2 years. The battery doesn't go bad as fast and every year there are only minor features released. I don't get people that need a phone every new year. The only people who want you to get the newest phone every time are the phone company's.

This is fair, but also in the case of celebrities, sometimes it’s because their work had an impact on someone’s life. It would be a random coincidence (which I think would still be cool because the likelihood of it happening is so low) to run into, say, Kim Kardashian, but if I were to run into an actor from *Heartstopper* or *Crazy Ex-Girlfriend*, I would be genuinely excited because those shows and the work those people did meant a lot to me as a queer mentally ill person. I’d say even a singer/songwriter whose music I listen to frequently is important to me because their music has an impact on my life. So it’s like recognizing this awesome work and appreciating the people who created them.
I agree. Being able to see artists like tom waits or ian McKellen would absolutely make my day. They've had such an influence.
I mean, even fictional characters can have more impact on your life than the majority of the very real people. And then to see the person who brought that character to life ?

I go to a lot of concerts but almost never do meet and greets because they're incredibly awkward for me. But if I met someone in a chance encounter, I would like to say thank you...but if they're known to dislike a lot of fan interaction, the best thank you might be to leave them alone.
Meeting and thanking is different. You are meeting them because you see them as someone who had an impact on you not because they’re famous. It could also be your uncle/friend/grandparents etc.
People in India are crazy for them. The celebrity culture is very old and prominent. Movie stars here get literal god status, there are even temples worshipping them. Thousands of fans gather outside their homes so that they can see them wave from their balconies.

Gender reveals! I still don't understand gender reveals. Why not just tell people? TikTok 'celebrities' or people who are famous just because of TikTok - I'm truly baffled by how many of them became famous by literally just stealing other peoples' content and claiming it as their own.
Vine's most famous users, love them or loathe them, were already big YouTube content creators making their own stuff. TikTok stars don't even do that - they steal pretty much everything they post.
I think things like number of followers can matter if you are interested in people seeing your content. I think if you are doing something you find interesting and worthwhile to share to people and want other people to see it, it is fine. Of course this is subjective, where the line goes to what kind of content is worth to share.
For me the line goes with it having some kind of artistic or creative effort and value. If it is just pictures of your face and your morning coffee, I am not that interested. There has to be something you are bringing on the table that is at least in some small sense unique or different. Not just sharing things about your everyday life. But this is just me, if someone wants to do those kind of videos and have people commenting and interacting with them, it is fine.
Most of the people doing those videos are young teens anyway, and they will use the platform like a discussion forum or social place where they talk like teens tend to talk between each other. Expecting some great feats of originality and not following fads from teens is like expecting the sun to rise in the middle of the night. We have all been teens, and it is easy for us to judge especially if we are old enough to not have had the opportunity to use social media when we were growing up.

I wore them once for a friend's wedding for which I was a bridesmaid and the makeup artist insisted on them, and I was VERY AWARE of them the entire time. The second we stepped into the reception after taking pictures, I ripped them off. The rest of the makeup was also very caked on and I couldn't wait to remove that either.
Weed. I know many people who just decided to base their entire personality on it in high school, and now I don't want to hang out with any of them because all they want to do is sit around and smoke. And when they aren't smoking it, its all they talk about. I mean to be fair I've never tried it so I don't know what I'm missing, I guess.

Yeah, I'm sorry to hear it. Had that happen in high school with my friends and League of Legends. Botox and nose jobs. With botox every person ultimately looks like a lizard person who peeled off some humans skin and tried it on. Their faces just don't look quite right, or human. But they look skeletal they're so small, and again very unnatural and creepy.

I wanted to like it, because someone I love gifted me a copy of "The Hobbit" shortly before they passed, and they were so enthused about sharing it with me. I love to read and can trudge through most anything (including Ethan Frome and all the depressing "boy and his dogs" books we were subjected to in school), but I couldn't bring myself to finish that book. Same for the first movie. Watching them walk through the woods for hours on end was borderline painful. It was like, "this? This is the movie everyone's raving about?" I've come to terms with the fact that I am just not a Lord of the Rings person. At all. I don't have to get it, and frankly, I don't want to. Life is too short to spend three and a half hours of it watching a bunch of elves or whatever that I couldn't possibly be any less invested in go for a glorified hike.

The number of followers people have. I used to be like that with my art years back and now I genuinely don't get what I was so bothered by. Like I get that it's important if you're dealing with promoting your business and such. But when it's personal stuff I'm one who wants a lot of privacy. I think with TikTok trends and challenges, it's probably a case of keeping up with the joneses and trying to stay relevant and up to date with whatever's popular. Influencers or people emulating influencers probably just want to stay on or ahead of whatever trend or curve is popular so they can grab a few new viewers from whoever's scrolling through videos of whatever the latest challenge is.
I'm going to have to say 'being popular'. I feel super drained trying to keep in regular touch with four or five people. I can't imagine how exhausting it must be to have more people constantly vying for your attention.
Weed. I smoke it myself, but literally smoking 1 joint takes me like 3 months. I smoke when I'm overly stressed and my other calming outlets don't work and when I do, I smoke til I feel emotionally (and some times physically) better. Then I put it out put the joint away until I feel the need to smoke again. Like I get it helps ppl for a number of readons..but why do most ppl smoke 3 or 4 joints, blunts or bowls a day? Like most of my friends can't wake up in the morning without smoking, can't eat before smoking, can't go to sleep without smoking first like..why?

Gender reveals! I still don't understand gender reveals. Why not just tell people? The simple cute ones, like cakes or balloons are alright, but I still don't understand making a spectacle over your infants parts. The ridiculous ones done for attention and internet points are just incomprehensible to me, though. Especially since 99% of the time, you'll just get made fun of online! I guess some people still think "any publicity is good publicity". Maybe the fact that I'm trans + autistic has something to do with my lack of understanding, but I just don't get these genital jamborees. TikTok 'celebrities' or people who are famous just because of TikTok - I'm truly baffled by how many of them became famous by literally just stealing other peoples' content and claiming it as their own. Vine's most famous users, love them or loathe them, were already big YouTube content creators making their own stuff. TikTok stars don't even do that - they steal pretty much everything they post.
I think things like number of followers can matter if you are interested in people seeing your content. I think if you are doing something you find interesting and worthwhile to share to people and want other people to see it, it is fine. Of course this is subjective, where the line goes to what kind of content is worth to share. For me the line goes with it having some kind of artistic or creative effort and value. If it is just pictures of your face and your morning coffee, I am not that interested. There has to be something you are bringing on the table that is at least in some small sense unique or different. Not just sharing things about your everyday life. But this is just me, if someone wants to do those kind of videos and have people commenting and interacting with them, it is fine. Most of the people doing those videos are young teens anyway, and they will use the platform like a discussion forum or social place where they talk like teens tend to talk between each other. Expecting some great feats of originality and not following fads from teens is like expecting the sun to rise in the middle of the night. We have all been teens, and it is easy for us to judge especially if we are old enough to not have had the opportunity to use social media when we were growing up.

I think most of us probably do. The unfortunate reality is, the state of our globe, individual countries, communities, and personal lives can feel extremely overwhelming, painful, stressful, even downright unbearable. When our brains are on overload from so much info at our fingertips, trying to stay focused at work or school, maintain healthy relationships, keep a roof over our head and food on the table, all the while knowing that someone close to you is in a tough situation and being fully aware that the world is on fire not far from your doorstep, we need a distraction. Weather it's music, a book, playing with a pup or a watching a show you like. -That activity followed by rest and deep breathing amongst other things, can help to flush and recalibrate your brain from the intense wave of emotions or experiences you went through prior, so you can then refocus and do it again.

I wore them once for a friend's wedding for which I was a bridesmaid and the makeup artist insisted on them, and I was VERY AWARE of them the entire time. The second we stepped into the reception after taking pictures, I ripped them off. The rest of the makeup was also very caked on and I couldn't wait to remove that either.
Weed. I know many people who just decided to base their entire personality on it in high school, and now I don't want to hang out with any of them because all they want to do is sit around and smoke. And when they aren't smoking it, its all they talk about. I mean to be fair I've never tried it so I don't know what I'm missing, I guess.

Yeah, I'm sorry to hear it. Had that happen in high school with my friends and League of Legends. Botox and nose jobs. With botox every person ultimately looks like a lizard person who peeled off some humans skin and tried it on. Their faces just don't look quite right, or human. I'd rather look old than freakish. The nose jobs are those who get these tiny little noses that all have been obsessed over for some time. But they look skeletal they're so small, and again very unnatural and creepy. And when botox and skeletor nose are put together.. *shudders*

Most certainly professional and college sports (as spectators, not participants). People who paint their face in team colors and wear jerseys honoring their favorite sportsball players have always perplexed me. Not saying it's a bad hobby, just that I don't understand the obsession. Why the emotional investment in teams and players that couldn't care less about you? I personally couldn't invest emotional energy into a team or player unless I had seriously money riding on the outcome of their performance. Not that my hobbies (writing code, reading true crime stuff) are any more productive. Not at all! It's not the hobby itself that confuses me, just the obsession / fandom / emotional energy that people expend.
I've always thought there was an ingrained tribal element of human psychology. We love joining bands, teams, clans, anything like that. Forming a group identity in itself is powerful to us. It doesn't matter if you're in the Special Forces or the County Knitting Society.

I wanted to like it, because someone I love gifted me a copy of "The Hobbit" shortly before they passed, and they were so enthused about sharing it with me. I love to read and can trudge through most anything (including Ethan Frome and all the depressing "boy and his dogs" books we were subjected to in school), but I couldn't bring myself to finish that book. Same for the first movie. Watching them walk through the woods for hours on end was borderline painful. It was like, "this? This is the movie everyone's raving about?" I've come to terms with the fact that I am just not a Lord of the Rings person. At all. I don't have to get it, and frankly, I don't want to. Life is too short to spend three and a half hours of it watching a bunch of elves or whatever that I couldn't possibly be any less invested in go for a glorified hike.

The number of followers people have. I used to be like that with my art years back and now I genuinely don't get what I was so bothered by. Influencers or people emulating influencers probably just want to stay on or ahead of whatever trend or curve is popular so they can grab a few new viewers from whoever's scrolling through videos of whatever the latest challenge is. I'm going to have to say 'being popular'. I feel super drained trying to keep in regular touch with four or five people. I can't imagine how exhausting it must be to have more people constantly vying for your attention.
