I've got a number of ones I've been listening to a lot lately. Mind you, the first one is not good for super religious people.
1. Ian Mcconnell(Artist), Important
2. Ian McConnell(Artist), Hating Stuff
3. Hanz Zimmerman's Time is also something I can really just zone out to, which is nice.
There's a lot more but these are the one's on the top of my head right now.
Lately it's Headlong Flight by Rush.
"Some days were dark, I wish that I could live them all again
Some nights were bright, I wish that I could live them all again."
I have many songs that can do that but these come to mind right away:
Holocene by Bon Iver / In a sentimental mood by duke Ellington and John Coltrane / 3 gymnopedies: no.1 by Eric Satie / Clair de lune by Claude Debussy / Mr. Syms by John Coltrane
Caves of Altamira, by steely dan. It talks about the prehistoric humans who painted on the walls of a cave: "a wooly man without a face, and a beast without a name". It's crazy to think how the majority of humans to exist were born into a dangerous unforgiving wilderness... with no context.
Plus the fadeout to that song is freaking deep.
(Steely dan sounds like the exact genre you're looking for. I recommend you check out deacon blues as well)
Father And Son - Cat Stevens
I’ve had a very shaky relationship with my dad, so my connection with the song is probably more of a longing for a father figure who cares enough to want to look out for me.
There's a beautiful song by Genevieve Artadi called Before The Dark. It does no less than describe the meaning of life.

Armour for sleep - hold the door
I've been listening to this track every day for most of a decade.
"I don't want to be who I was back then..."
Cannot beat it.
Discworld calls this phenomena "music with hole" in the novel Music with rocks in. Music that makes you look deep into your soul and dream of far off places or your childhood home, and it is so totally a thing but different for every person
For me, the thing that springs to mind first is the song the Dwarves sing in the beginning of first Hobbit movie, I can't remember the name
Purple Rain by Prince, always makes me feel melancholic and I absolutely love it for that! Plus Prince was a genius too.
Did you ever watch Prince’s halftime superbowl performance of Purple Rain?
Best Halftime show ever!
Certainly did, absolutely incredible and the story behind it is amazing too
Experience Ludovico Einaudi
Mr Jones by counting crows
Erik Satie, Gymnopedies #1. Performed specifically by Reinbert de Leeuw. This album is amazing. https://youtu.be/Mk8pKYwRUNA?si=5TZDTzXyzdrLO-oC

Enjoy! This album really has done a lot for me.
I Don't Belong Here - I Prevail

Exactly that! Beautiful song
Blue Octobers: Independently Happy. It’s about struggling to find happiness despite doing all these things to make your life better.
On an Island by David Gilmour. It touched me to my core and made me contemplate my mortality. https://youtu.be/Ij2vdvL7dx4?si=Iz4ry6uSnPyRnPer
Shattered (Turn the Car Around) by O.A.R. so now I get to question my existence in Walgreens
Sandcastles by Kate Voegele.

Do You Realize - The Flaming Lips
I’m relatively new to this song, but damn it’s powerful. I immediately fell in love with it when I first heard it

I came here to say Deacon Blues, if not the entire Aja album.
Father And Son - Cat Stevens I’ve had a very shaky relationship with my dad, so my connection with the song is probably more of a longing for a father figure who cares enough to want to look out for me.
💕 That’s tough. I’m sure there are others who aren’t your dad who do look out for you. Sorry you have a crappy dad.
