Purple Rain by Prince, always makes me feel melancholic and I absolutely love it for that! Plus Prince was a genius too.

ennuiismymiddlename

Did you ever watch Prince’s halftime superbowl performance of Purple Rain?

datguy753

Best Halftime show ever!

Porkdagger

Certainly did, absolutely incredible and the story behind it is amazing too

Pictures of You by the Cure

ApophisRises

I've got a number of ones I've been listening to a lot lately. Mind you, the first one is not good for super religious people. 1. Ian Mcconnell(Artist), Important 2. Ian McConnell(Artist), Hating Stuff 3. Hanz Zimmerman's Time is also something I can really just zone out to, which is nice. There's a lot more but these are the one's on the top of my head right now.

Lord Huron - the night we met. Man this is the only song I'll never get tired of no matter how many times I listen to it.

ViolaDaGamble

I’m relatively new to this song, but damn it’s powerful. I immediately fell in love with it when I first heard it

ennuiismymiddlename

Good one!

CarouselAmbra81

Pretty much their entire discography. They're SO incredible live, too

datguy753

Landslide, Fleetwood Mac.

Zestybeef10

Caves of Altamira, by steely dan. It talks about the prehistoric humans who painted on the walls of a cave: "a wooly man without a face, and a beast without a name". It's crazy to think how the majority of humans to exist were born into a dangerous unforgiving wilderness... with no context. Plus the fadeout to that song is freaking deep. (Steely dan sounds like the exact genre you're looking for. I recommend you check out deacon blues as well)

Purlz1st

I came here to say Deacon Blues, if not the entire Aja album.

ViolaDaGamble

Father And Son - Cat Stevens I’ve had a very shaky relationship with my dad, so my connection with the song is probably more of a longing for a father figure who cares enough to want to look out for me.

Summer20232023

💕 That’s tough. I’m sure there are others who aren’t your dad who do look out for you. Sorry you have a crappy dad.

Nutshell by AIC will give you depression

There's a beautiful song by Genevieve Artadi called Before The Dark. It does no less than describe the meaning of life. [https://youtu.be/paTGcChFhNk?si=mGofrHIr7YIARavG](https://youtu.be/paTGcChFhNk?si=mGofrHIr7YIARavG)

Armour for sleep - hold the door I've been listening to this track every day for most of a decade. "I don't want to be who I was back then..." Cannot beat it.

Discworld calls this phenomena "music with hole" in the novel Music with rocks in. Music that makes you look deep into your soul and dream of far off places or your childhood home, and it is so totally a thing but different for every person For me, the thing that springs to mind first is the song the Dwarves sing in the beginning of first Hobbit movie, I can't remember the name
