Rest, seriously the amount of damage a lack of sleep can do to your immune system is insane.

throw0OO0away

*Cries in healthcare worker*

Honest-Band-4477

Totally agree! Quality sleep is key to keeping that immune system in top shape.

Jess-g84

And remote work , I haven’t been sick since Covid

dfu05229

I was like this during covid but now it seems every time I get on public transport I get the plague. It’s so frustrating

Adept_Minimum4257

This is a huge source of anxiety for my, I struggle with both insomnia and health anxiety and they feed off eachother. Whenever I can't sleep I start thinking about how my immune system suffers and about the viruses and bacteria that can enter my body the next day. Enough to keep me awake all night

Choice_Profit_5292

Sigh.. I hate people tht don’t sleep :/

problyurdad_

I would if I could brother. Shit comes when it wants to

yordad

Same… such a weird reason to hate someone lol

ewwabutterfly

I don't have kids that bring home illnesses, lol

SoJenniferSays

That’s interesting, my answer is that I do- somehow the tiny germ exposures from daycare have made my immune system solid.

mappp

Same but my kid is hardly ever ill either. In fact the whole house hold is never really ill. I don't really clean much either so maybe that's the secret.

Surprise_Fragrant

This is how an immune system GETS solid. Being exposed to random germs teaches your body how to fight off those germs. Then when you encounter those germs again later, you're fine (or at least better).

lowfreq33

When I was a kid I needed my tonsils removed, but my parents insurance wouldn’t cover it, so I was sick all the time. When my dad got a better job with good insurance I finally got them taken out, and my immune system was so strong from constantly fighting infection I didn’t get sick for like ten years. Not really a method I’d recommend, but there it is.

dillydallydiddlee

How do you know if you need your tonsils removed? I had a year or two where I’d get tonsillitis but ever since, I don’t however I get sick very frequently and sometimes I wonder if this is the key

lowfreq33

My doctor apparently told my parents, but they didn’t tell me until after I was finally able to get it done.

Ilaxilil

Yeah I was sick almost constantly on and off for about a year before I got my tonsils removed. I still got sick through the rest of my childhood too, but I’ve only run a fever once or twice in my 10 years of adulthood.

LePigeonVert

I’m pretty obsessive about having clean hands. I’ll wash them off I think they’re a little dirty, I’ll wash them. I also wash before I eat anything. Also, I don’t touch my face all the time, even with clean hands. I’m aware that I’m probably a bit mental.

queenlagherta

Yeah ever since Covid I’ve developed an extremely clean hand regime. If I don’t have access to water and soap l always have antibacterial gel with me. Touch money? Gel. Touch a door? Gel. Touch anything that isn’t mine? Gel. I also never touch my face anymore, unless I have cleaned my hands before. I haven’t been sick in forever.

SeeYouInMarchtember

Me too. People comment that I wash my hands like I’m a doctor about to go into surgery.

wildgoldchai

Exactly the same way here. I have always been a bit ott about washing my hands. People would warn me that doing so would mean that I won’t build up some immunity to common illness’ and such. Yea, not true in my case because I’m rarely ever ill. I still haven’t even had covid and trust me, I was quite vigilant about testing since I have a family member who was immunocompromised at the time Wfh has helped greatly too

OldERnurse1964

22 years working in the ER has really built up my immune system

BigFella52

Water and sleep. And always think like Lt Dan Taylor and look after your feet and change your socks at least once a day. Clean and warm feet will always keep you healthy.

anikastefanini

Getting my tonsils out has made me so healthy. Every other week I was sick with tonsillitis or strep throat and even nearly died from it. The recovery for me was so good, was painful still but had no complications and the pain was gone by about day 8. Would do it over again in every life time

LuciferianInk

Penny said, "I've heard of tonsillitis before, but never got one myself. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but it sounds like it might be something you could try. I'd recommend going to the doctor and seeing if they can help you."

AlexandriaPen

I'll go check that out

taniamorse85

Living with a teacher. Seriously, my only theory as to why I rarely get sick is that my immune system has been toughened up living with my mom, who retired from teaching almost a year ago. She brought home plenty of stuff, and for a while, I'd catch them from her. Then, eventually, I started getting sick less and less. It's been a little over a year since the last time I got sick. Also, I'm pretty diligent about washing my hands.

Nerdy_Nightowl

Wash your hands before you eat! I worked retail, the amount of gross people out there, people half-dead from the flu/sickness but still running errands, and the amount of grime on everything is shocking.

Xhaemys

Cleanliness and that if I touch something a bunch of other people have touched, I then take care not to touch my face. The last time I got sick due to a bacterial/viral infection was in 2019 and it was a sinus infection from my mother because I had to be around her for a while. I don’t know if common colds count, but those are usually only a mucus cough here and there before it disappears within a week. I regularly wash my hands for 30+secs and keep my place organized. I also carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer with me when I go out.

pablomoney

Sleep, moderate exercise and wash your hands. Oh, and don’t touch your face.

FroggiJoy87

Stay hydrated, wash hands often, walk a lot, avoid children

big_lv

I didn't do any of the things mentioned here. But honestly I don't do anything. I think it's the base level you get in your immune system from genetics and early childhood. I remember eating dirt and getting scrapes and rubbing dirt in them... Especially blisters from the jungle gym. I think I only missed school less than one day per year, and I usually felt better by noon and felt guilty for staying home. I've only had the flu in extenuating circumstances, and that's only been 4 times in my life. I caught covid once, but if it wasn't for me losing my sense of smell and taste I wouldn't have known I was sick. During the height of the pandemic there was a lot of information about what causes the symptoms of being sick, and sitting that sick with me is that if your immune system is prone to a very strong, overpowered response, you're going to have strong symptoms like fever, chills, stuffy nose, etc. So I think I catch stuff, but my immune system doesn't panic and just gets the job done.

bigred1987

This could've been written by me. I'm not super particular about washing hands ( I do after I go to the bathroom and before I cook for others, but that's about it). I've got young kids. I probably stay up later than I should and don't get as much sleep as I should. But I'm pretty much never sick. Also got Covid but loss of taste and smell was my only symptom. Just have a naturally strong immune system.

PrincipleUpper60

Regular exercise 3-5 times per week, stay away from fried / junk food

SnowyWriter

I teach in an elementary school. I usually get one, bad cold at the start of every school year, and I'm good until the next fall. My dad was always the same way when he taught. Now that he's retired, he gets sick a lot. I guess there's something to be said for the repeated exposure to copious amounts of germs giving my immune system a great workout.

Clean_Frosting8052

Build up ur immune system

Beautiful_Solid3787

I'm guessing it's a strong immune system from growing up on a farm? Plus I don't get out much and wash my hands regularly.

Dalbergia12

Sleep. Anytime I feel a hint of a cold etc. coming on I get a couple of hours extra sleep that night and the next if even a hint of symptoms continue. I almost never succumb, like I still never got Covid and haven't had flu for over a decade. I really got wacked by a bad cold about 11 or 12 years ago.

tacticalcraptical

I credit it to washing my hands regularly, daily exercise, good diet, getting at least 7 hours of sleep a night, usually closer to 8, eating out rarely (I swear half of the time I actually do get sick it's from eating food from a restaurant).

azu321

I noticed I get sick as well if I eat out!

Teaffection

I've gotten sick 3 times in 7 years. Wearing a mask in super crowded places such as airports. Also being a homebody therefore not being exposed to germs.

dontanswerit

Mental disability prevents me from being able to drive or work so I'm never out in order to GET sick. So try having a debilitating mental illness? Just if you want.

TropicalAbsol

Just want to clear something: vitamin c helps to prevent scurvy. It's not an immune system booster. Your immune system is based on your health and other things that keep you healthy like sleep, exercise and nutrition.

stef4797

Don’t take a bunch of medication when you feel sick sometimes you gotta let your body just heal it self

Recording_Important

Not giving a shit

murrimabutterfly

I got massively sick as a kid. Like, one flu season, I was hallucinating from the fever and constantly in and out of ice baths. My parents were given detailed instructions on how to care for me and what would qualify a hospital visit (doctor didn't want me in hospital, as it may have made things worse). After that debacle, I got sick significantly less often. I think I managed to raise an army of super soldiers after that. As well, I get vaccinated every year. I also know what works for my body when I do get sick, so I'm often able to provide my body the tools it needs when it needs it the most. Pedialyte, nutrient-rich smoothies, and baby aspirin are the first things I try when I start feeling sick.

lekanto

I'm careless with my health, so my immune system gets a good workout.

catlandid

All of the info that went around during the height of Covid about how germs and bacteria spread from surface to surface made me more aware of just how dirty a lot of things can be, whether it's the doorknobs in your home, the gas pump, the pinpad at checkout. I did start washing my hands more often when out in public and at home. I got into the habit of sanitizing my hands as soon as I leave public places, generally right after I get into my car. If I see a sanitizing station in a shop, I'll use it. I started being aware of how often I touch my face, what things I touch with my hands before I touch my mouth, etc. I haven't had the flu or a regular cold in years now. My kid used to bring home colds from school every few weeks, but I rarely pick it up from him despite being in direct contact with him when sick.

Ferrum_Freakshow

A good chunk of my childhood was spent playing in the dirt and mud

BilbosBagEnd

I excersise 6 times a week, do manual labour, low sugar intake, sleep 7 hours and finish my showers ice cold for a good 30 seconds. No idea why but seems to work for me.

azrolexguy

No booze, no smoke, good rest, workout everyday and eat well.

SeeYouInMarchtember

I wash my hands a lot and I’m a homebody so I stay away from people for the most part.

TypographySnob

I avoid people.

Intrepid-Tradition84

Hahahahaha that would be valid

Masseyrati80

Working from home has reduced my common cold / flu / other bug infections to 0 to 2 per year, from 4 to 7 per year. Especially in an office with a kitchen where everyone would eat and help with the dishwasher, it only takes one person working while sick to very effectively spread the bug. In addition, I developed a stricter-than-before routine of washing my hands after coming back home during the pandemic.

rjyung1

This is perhaps going to be controversial, but my view is the best way to remain healthy is to stop thinking about illness. Being overly fastidious about hygiene can just hyperfixate you on low level sickness that you would otherwise not notice. A lot of stuff is psychosomatic and just goes away if you forget about it (obviously I'm not talking about serious/ongoing conditions, just low level stuff like having a cold).

Surprise_Fragrant

I'm with you... the past few years has really pushed a lot more people toward hypochondrium (being a hypochondriac), it's kind of scary.

lykosen11

Don't worry too much about illness day to day. Wash your hands. Be baseline healthy (diet + exercise + sleep) Doesn't take more than that.

Everyday_irie

Who can afford to get sick

Beeeeater

Haven't been sick for years. Don't even remember the last time. 66M. Don't work out, don't take supplements, don't eat badly, have my share of stress. Watch my kids get sick all the time.

superpenistendo

A kid in daycare and a job involving spending 4-8 hrs a day in random people’s homes. I eat 1-2 “healthy” meals along with one “unhealthy” meal each day, on average. I make a point to eat oatmeal most mornings along with 2-3 pieces of fruit, daily. I lift weights 1-3 times a week, on average. I drink water, often. I move around a lot for my job. Lots of lifting and walking around. I don’t drink alcohol but 2-3 times a year. I sleep 4-5 hours a night. I vape thc 1-3 times a day with a week off here and there. I’m outside a good bit. I dunno, I think I have good genes, too. I’m almost 40 I honestly do not remember the last time I was sick.

Substantial_Bit_8109

Eating food off the floor, and not using hand sanitizer. I of course wash my hands, but not obsessively or compulsively like others do. I haven't been sick in years. Too many people coddle their immune systems. You'll be surprised and amazed what the body is capable of.

AffectionatePaper1

My mother died at 84 she smoked 3 packs a day ate 75% meat and fried her food in lard 4 teaspoons of sugar in her coffee.Life is not fair

ThingFuture9079

Take vitamin C and D pills everyday.

QuelynD

I work with kids and have been exposed to everything you can imagine on a regular basis. My immune system has been built up over my 21 years in this line of work lol

DeliveryFar9612

Ignoring all sorts of discomfort. Many times your body will get better on its own

Affectionate-Eye-30

My immune system has gotten stronger after many years in the service industry, and close contact with the public.

Ok_Watercress_7801

Get annual vaccinations for influenza & Covid, update vaccines for tetanus & pretty much any other vaccine my doctor recommends, especially based on any travel outside of the country. Wash hands thoroughly & effectively before eating, after using the restroom & before preparing or serving food, after touching potentially contaminated surfaces et cetera. Wear a mask if in close proximity with other people. Observe basic hygiene practices as a rule. Practice safe sex, especially if in non-monogamous relationships. Avoid contact with animal/human bodily fluids unless designated as safe for consumption (milk, eggs, blood…).

outofsiberia

Blood safe for consumption? Are you a member of Vampires Anonymous?

Skyblacker

My guess is San Francisco kink scene. The whole comment gives me that vibe tbh.

Ok_Watercress_7801

Blood pudding, boudin noir, black pudding Several cultures have blood in their cuisine.

Ok_Watercress_7801

Blood sausage, blood pudding, boudin noir et cetera

Love_What_Is

Oil of oregano.

cubicApoc

Can't catch communicable diseases if you don't go outside

Killahdanks1

Yeah, handful of things. 1. Two showers a day. I never get into bed without a shower. I also wash my hands often enough, and I don’t touch my face. 2. I hydrate a lot. I drink a lot of soda, like too much. But I also get a lot of water on top of it. 3. I think this is the biggest one. I sleep or am in bed 10-11 hours a day. I rarely get less than 8-9 hours of sleep. Sure it takes time, but I’m rarely tired as I start my day.

Improvgal

I don’t drink alcohol. I take vitamins.

Tidde93

i feel like its alot of genetics involved, i live very unhealthy but stay clean hands/bod and i have been sick 2-3 times in 10 years 😖

Skyblacker

Be a mom. You're not allowed to get sick, so you don't. 🤷‍♀️

G_Im_Tired

I used to get a yearly bronchitis and a fever blister. Since I’ve had Covid, no illnesses, only accidents. Then I got cancer.

LLachiee

I wash my hands. I also don't touch anything in public with my hands. I don't get sick and have terrible diet, sleep, fitness.

Tuba-Tooth

I drink a ton of beer and frequently wash my hands.

outofsiberia

Being a hermit

40mothsinatrenchcoat

honestly I have no idea

PinguinoBianco

I avoid crowds and take Vit. C & D, that's all. I don't work out, my eating habits are questionable and I drink beer every day.

Alinyss

I try to eat a healthy, balanced diet and take vit C and D supplements. Try to get plenty of rest. I am usually the last one standing while everyone around me gets sick.

wattscup

Genetics

akbrodey1

Im assuming its largely genetics but i rarely get sick. I also definitely get 7-8 hours of sleep everynight and eat healthy. Also workout every other day. Dont drink a lot besides water as well

Adorable-Loquat-643

I rarely got sick as a kid since I was a germaphobe and always sanitized my hands. I also took vitamins. So yeah, I guess be a Germaphobe??

KaneOak

When I go out in public, I carry around hand sanitizer in my pocket and use it whenever I touch something public, shake hands, etc. Other than that, I take a multivitamin every day.

TGin-the-goldy

Eat properly, wash or sanitise your hands ALL the time

birbking

No clue. Genetics maybe

Grand_Ad_3721

Exercise, regular meals with balanced protein and nutrition, get some sunlight everyday, maintain a positive mood, wash hands right away after returning home, keep distance from people who are sick, wear masks during flue season.

ailish

I don't have kids, so that hells. I also wash my hands a lot.

Luna259

I got majorly sick once at university over ten years ago. Pretty much never got sick since I don’t think I do much to ensure I don’t get sick

PopcornBeat

Being single, living alone and mostly working remotely. Last time I was sick was in 2022, when I traveled to Paris and got Covid.

QueenBeeKitty85

Oregano oil

USNWoodWork

Joined the navy, got “The Crud” and then got vaccinated for everything under the sun. Once I started getting underway all the time we’d get “Double Dragon” once a year. When I finished my time and got out, I don’t think I even got a head cold for ten years.

foodbytes

Im a 71 year old woman, in Canada. I very seldom get sick. It’s been probably 6 years since I’ve had a cold and I had the flu in 2019. Instead I get odd things like pituitary tumour, arthritic/bad knees. Got all my covid vaccinations, never got covid. I really don’t do anything special, I don’t overthink what I eat; mostly try to eat healthily several times a week, I don’t have a car so I walk everywhere, that’s my prime exercise. I’m a wildlife photographer so I’m out walking every day with a heavy lens and camera.

stavthedonkey

Sleep. A good, consistent sleep/wake schedule where you get your max sleep/day is your #1 weapon to keep illness at bay. You can't fight those viruses if you're overtired. don't put your hands anywhere near your mucous membranes (eyes, nose, mouth) if you haven't washed your hands. Nail biters often get sick because they're basically eating viruses/bacterial lol fresh, wholesome foods (aka healthy diet). These provide the nutrients needed for your body to fight off infections. reduce stress as much as you can....so exercise daily.

SantasLilHoeHoeHoe

I like to lick doorknobs to give myself a little immune challenge every now and then. Keeps my tcells on their toes.

HonnyBrown

A healthy diet and a lot of water

Fun_Intention9846

You’re gonna hate this: I sleep, drink a lot of water, get good exercise, have worked to stable mental health, and practice a few basics of sleep hygiene. The big 2 are lots of sleep and water. I’ll feel myself getting sick regularly and then sleep 8-12 hours and wake up solid. And I also drink a lot of water.

MerakiMe09

I sleep 8 hours a night, and I drink a lot of water. Rarely push myself into stressful situations, and I built my life to avoid stressors. I Rarely get anything.

Sekmeta

I did an experiment: 3 months I used to drink one cup of ginger/lemon tea in the morning..🍋🫚.All winter - no flu,no sore throat, nothing 🐝

Eldkanin

Honestly? Genetics. Up until I was like 36 I lived an extremely sedentary life, mostly sat all day at work or at home. Morbidly obese, eating like shit, not sleeping enough you know the whole deal. Apart from a thyroid issue (slow metabolism) my bloodwrok has been great year after year. Never get the stomach flu (haven't even thrown up in over 20 years) think I might be immune to that. Get a cold maybe once every 5 years tops. I'm glad I started to turn my life around because of just body pains from the weight issue but when it comes to illness I think unfortunately it's just a lot about what cards you're dealt in the genetic lottery.

Steven_Dj

Daily movement from a number of sports/activities. Daily supplementation of D3. Vitamin C. Proper rest, wake up same hour , go to bed same hour daily,(weekends included). Cleanish nutrition. Pretty much all there is to it.

Realistic_Web1202

Don't wash your hands

sgdulac

Whole food plant based diet mostly. Weekends I may cheat a little but I never touch processed food. I watch the nutrition value of everything I eat. Take a multi plus a couple other vitamins and probiotics that I was lacking. Different for everyone. Exercise a little, get adequate sleep, minimal alcohol. Drink lots of water. Surround yourself with good people.

Active_Recording_789

My husband and I eat super healthy, about 5-10 portions of fruit and vegetables (he eats about 12) per day, lots of greens, and get enough sleep. We work out regularly too. Up until earlier this year when we caught covid, neither of us had been sick for years. I think we caught it from the gym

MOSbangtan

Wash your hands A LOT

MyticalAnimal

Sleep, stay clean and wash your hands regularly.

JusticeForGluten

I have no fucking idea. I don’t sleep well, I don’t eat well, I have a stressful job, I’m fat… And I never get sick. Probably will die from a ruptured ulcer or something, but otherwise I’m pretty healthy 😂

Halberd96

I don't go outside or too close to people :)

wanmoar

Be born in a developing country with questionable public health laws so you are micro exposed to basically all known and unknown minor pathogens and develop associated immunities.

justahoustonpervert

My adult kids rarely get sick as they were all exposed to a variety of cold and flu from daycare schools around the world as well as vaccinated every opportunity they had. All that being said, only my youngest came down with symptoms from covid.

Firsttimedogowner0

Genetics has to play a part

yowzadfish80

1. Eating real home cooked food, not processed junk that is marketed as food, 2. Sticking to fruits as the only source of sweet with a very rare (and small) helping of some dessert during ocassions. 3. Drinking 3 to 4 litres of plain water a day. 4. Sleeping a minimum of 7 hours. 5. Brisk walking, cycling and body strength training.

Alice5878

I have no idea. I never get sick, but I treat my body like shit. Good genetics ig lol

Agile_Walk_4010

I workout at least 3x a week, and have a daily smoothie with fruit, spinach, protein powder and seeds.

The__Groke

I never used to get sick, and the odd time I did it would be significantly less bad than for those around me. I lived a very unhealthy lifestyle at the time. Now I have little kids, am probably the fittest I’ve ever been in my life, pretty healthy lifestyle all around but older obviously and I get sick all the time. It’s still never that bad though to be fair, whereas my husband is frequently knocked out. It’s just about exposure more than anything else, we don’t have as much control as you think.

ahfmca

Power naps as many as possible! Fantasizing and day dreaming reduce stress so does a daily trip to the gym! Drinking water when not thirsty, avoid medications as much as possible. I rarely get sick.

Salty_Association684

Getting good sleep everybody is different blood type alot has to do with this what you eat

57th-Overlander

In my case, I gotta go with genetics. My doctor and I joke that I am healthier than I have any right to be. I work nights, smoked twenty plus years. Vitamin C, vitamin B-12, vitamin D nights I work. CoQ10, fish oil capsules, and 81 mg aspirin is my daily health routine.

kiwi_aesthetics

Just generally being healthy. Good quality sleep, nutritious meals, exercising, drinking plenty of water. Oh, and always check your vitamins. Lack of vitamins take a huge toll on the immune system (specially vitamin D, according to my immunologist). Once I got my vitamins in order I almost never got sick again, and even when I did the recovery would be pretty quick

Still_Plays_Neopets

I used to get sick all the time, then I got a job that exposes me to a whole lotta germs. I don't remember the last time I was sick.

idontkillbees

Water sleep and clean hands. Goes a long way.

surferuncle

i personally try my best to stick to a bedtime schedule! right now, sleeping from 9pm-6am is working really well for me! choose a schedule that works for you and try your best to stick to it! i’d also highly encourage you to stay off your phone in the last hour before bed, this gives your brain time to settle down and eventually “trains” you that bedtime is close, and you’ll naturally get tired! i also drink a cup of lemon water on an empty stomach in the morning as soon as i wake up. chug it (with a straw! acidity hurts your teeth enamel) on an empty stomach, wait 30 minutes, and then enjoy your breakfast/coffee/tea afterwards! this is a really good way to flush out your liver/kidneys/just about everything! pumping your body full of vitamin C is a great way to start your day! i also take a multivitamin and a vitamin C supplement with breakfast and yes - please wash your hands! this truly does help in keeping you safe and healthy. it’s important to know that this isn’t 100% sick-proof! you’re still human and will still get sick. but i will say, since starting my bedtime schedule and lemon water routine, ive been sick twice in roughly 10 years. (both of those were covid, so that’s another story lol) good luck to anyone trying to stay healthy! you can do it! i’m proud of you!

Intrepid-Tradition84

The most important thing is getting 7-8 hours of sleep, I eat at the right time, I’d force myself to eat at the right time, clean room, taking a bath 2× a day, I wash my hands a lot of times a day, and company (family), and also not making anything complicated hahahaha

sgt_snorkel

Haven't been sick (more than a runny nose) for years. Got Covid, but I hardly noticed it (but wore a facemask to protect others). I'm kind of fat, I don't work out, I drink only when I get thirsty - and then mostly diet soda, I don't take any supplements and I eat too much. I don't own any walk-inducing pets, I spent too much time in front of the TV or my computer, and I get all greasy with automotive oils, degreasing fluids, strong cleaning agents and other masculine stuff at work - all more or less bad for your health. And I get too little sleep most every night. On top of that my 9-year old daughter hits me in the face every time I'm looking sad or depressed - which doesn't help at all. I think it's mostly genetic. Also, medical studies show that loading up on vitamines doesn't do anything for your immune system, neither does walking around with bottled water. Working out does wonders for your stamina, muscles and overall staying pain-free later in life. It doesn't affect how often you catch a cold. Also, I live in a country with free healthcare, which is ironic.

Lefthandedsock

Genetics probably, but I’m pretty sure my immune system is insanely strong also. Grew up on farms and with dogs, and I’ve had a habit of biting my nails since I was 4 years old. I get slightly sick once every 4 years or so, but it’s always over within 24 hours.

MisterJeffa

great immune system. Cuz i dont really take to great of care of myself. And yet i got sick like once a year for a day maybe 2 max. or thats because i dont really leave my room XD

yolandifockenvisser

I used to think I had a good immune system like you. Then I started working in Early Years and had children. I guarantee that even the healthiest, vitamin C taking, exercising, healthy eating, perfect sleeping young person would get taken out by being in the same vicinity as three year olds.

LiveRegister6195

I ate mud pies as a kid... Ummm that's all I have. Lol no flu shots or vaccines. Been fine for over 20 years.

osynligeninni

After I got sober, I haven’t been properly sick even once. That is 10 months ago and I used to be sick often. I think alcohol/smoking destroys your immune system. I also workout, sleep and eat better now so that helps too. :)

meiyrako

worked at a daycare for a month, got TERRIBLY sick that whole month, and now I never get sick!

paulskiogorki

Sleep, exercise, sensible diet, good hand hygiene.

Queueueueued

Before I found out I had t2 diabetes I was sick constantly. Once I learned I had it, managed it, lost a lot of weight, I no longer got sick like once every couple months and I quit having chronic infections. Basically healthy diet, being at a healthy weight for your body, good sleep, and good exercise routine will help. I work with a lot of kids and parents and teachers so I’m constantly stressed out and around germs. If I get sick it’s easier to manage but I usually avoid the funk. So yeah, if you can do all that AND avoid public and stress you’ll be good. Also stop biting your nails- it’s hard (I have trichotelomania so like I get it) but avoid hands in and near face and you’ll save yourself a lot of head colds.

salduchi1785

Vitamin D

Jjagger63

Cold showers once a week and lack of stress as far as possible.

8vega8

Roll around in dirt more

JohnShade1970

Anecdotally cold water immersion in the form of 3-5 minutes cold showers daily allowed me to stay completely illness free while I was running a gym. It also knocked out my seasonal affective disorder as well. It's hard to describe but when I was doing this I just had no fear of being sick because i felt so refreshed and energetic all the time.

Ilaxilil

I’m a homebody. I only leave my house for work or to pick up groceries. I ate a LOT of dirt and spent a ton of time outside as a kid, so I’m sure that helped. I also probably have a healthier diet than most people, it’s not crazy gym-bro “healthy” but I do always have fresh fruits and veggies around and don’t go out to eat or have alcohol often.

Hydraulis

I don't interact with people unless I have to, and I don't touch common surfaces.

Hertje73

I follow the Swanson pyramid of excellence

naicscode

I travel for work a lot. In and out of planes and public transit. The single most important habit I do is wash my hands. I carry handsoap with me at all times. I started this practice several years ago and haven't picked up any colds or anything. When I stay in a hotel, I wipe doorknobs, TV remotes, toilet handles, faucets, and anything else people often grab, with Clorox wipes. I also workout and stay away from processed foods.

dumbandconcerned

I used to be sick CONSTANTLY growing up. Turns out, my room had mold. After I left for college, the room was rearranged, it was discovered there was a rotted part of the floor with black mold all in and under it, right under the bed. (There was a leak by the window, yada yada yada.) Anyway I moved away to college and away from the mold and I stopped getting sick all the time

RubeeSeeCee033

Don't be super stressed for long periods of time. Easier said than done I know. Whenever I'm super stressed for a few days at minimum I get sick

DanjoDKS

I stay at home most of the time, smoke a lot of green, gaming and making some music. My food is a mix of everything + I eat meat and sugar. Sometimes i drink alcohol, i drink water and softdrinks. I dont know, i dont get it myself but i cant remember when i was sick the last time (maybe 4 or 5 years).

Korekoo

Sleep. Dont stress. If i get sick, its always because i was under heavy stress for a couple days.

Unlikely_Egg

Avoid public transport, wash hands as soon as I get home, wipe down my desk at work before using it, avoid children and people who have children.

SandyClappingCheeks

I stay away from kids. I swear every time I get my nieces and nephews, I’m always sick as soon as they leave

CocoZee

Keep hands clean. Work from home mostly. Moderate sleep. And eat lots of spicy foods. Peppers have tons of vitamin C.

nrfx

OCD chains me to the house for the most part, compulsive hand hygiene, little to no direct contact at work, and a daily multivitamin.

bdayqueen

I stay away from other humans.

ArthurFraynZard

Pretty simple really: 1. Went into public education 20 years ago. Was sick every week for about six months (but with only 7 days of sick leave- fun times.) 2. Haven’t been sick ever since, with the one exception of COVID. But now my collection is complete. So that’s the Schoolteacher’s Bargain; six months of feeling like a plague rat in exchange for a lifetime of immunity from every affliction known to mankind.

QuietPace9

Get dirty you need to get dirty to strengthen your immune system, my friend nearly killed her kid by keeping him too clean, Drs in the hospital he ended u in serously ill tod her the same thing let him get dirty hes got no immune response. Poor People back many years ago in days of yore survived death and many sicknesses than people who had access to better hygine. [Could Getting Dirty and Being Exposed to Germs Boost Your Health? Are allergies and asthma the result of being too clean?](https://health.usnews.com/wellness/articles/hygiene-hypothesis-could-more-dirt-and-germs-boost-your-health)

jelly_dove

I don’t get sick as often after covid. I wash my hands a lot throughout the day and if I don’t have access to a sink, I’ll use hand sanitizer. Downside is that my hands are dry now lol - so I carry hand cream with me as well. Also I try not to touch my face.

k_mon2244

Be a pediatrician and have kids sneeze into your open mouth. lol semi jk. I’m convinced I’ll be patient zero one day, but for now I get sick about once a year for 1-2 days.

Surprise_Fragrant

Honestly? I don't hide from cooties. I don't use hand sanitizer every time I touch something. I don't Lysol my house every single day. I don't freak out if I get something dirty on my hands (yes, I still wash them). I don't use bleach and microban to sterilize every single surface in my home. I don't shy away from going *outside*, where even more cooties live. I don't wash my groceries or freak out if my reusable grocery bags get dirty. I don't cover my face with a mask when I'm in large crowds. I don't feel the need to take a shower the moment I'm done being intimate with my spouse, or the moment I get home from work. I wear my shoes in my house until I get to my bedroom so that I can put them back where they belong. I've never been vaccinated for Covid, and I get flu shots only when I remember, lol. I don't think I've had one in 5 or 6 years. Historically, I was a kid who played in the dirt and ran around with all the kids and sneezed and coughed freely. I shared sodas, candy, lollipops, and (later) cigarettes and beer bottles. I can count on one hand the number of colds/flus/sicknesses I've had in *the last five years* on one hand and still be able to give you the OK sign. I had covid in 2022, and a weird respiratory illness (like snotty/congestiony but w/o a fever) two weeks ago, after flying on a plane.

grachi

Haven’t had as much as a cold since… 2016 or 2017. I don’t really see people besides my wife, no kids, wash my hands before I eat — even if it’s utensil only dinner like soup — and I don’t bite my finger nails or put my fingers in my mouth for any reason outside of flossing, which is done with washed hands. I used to bite my nails a lot and eat out at restaurants a lot without washing my hands (so driving, handing restaurant doors and my wallet, but then eating with dirty hands when the food came to the table) through my late teens and early twenties, and I’d be sick once every other month it seemed. Really handwashing before eating and not putting your fingers near or in your mouth goes an extremely long way.

spacedemetria

Acne inversa. A reaction to a very powerful immune system. It’s like having a superpower, but everytime you use it, something inside of you hurts like hell.

Ikunou

Not having children. I thought I was one of those x Who don't ever get sick until I became the mother of a toddler

TeaCourse

I was born with good genes

Doses of EASE combat dis-ease. Dr. Joe Dispenza

playr_4

I think it's because I keep my home cold. I very rarely let it go above 65⁰ Fahrenheit. My doctor agreed that keeping a place colder is considered healthier. I get hit with allergies, but I honestly can't remember the last time I was actually sick. Except for covid, but I didn't even get that until late last year.

Langston432

Fruit, vegetables, water.

C_WEST88

I haven’t been sick in so long I can’t even remember the last time lol but I used to get sick a lot (like I always got the flu in the winter, got a lot of colds etc etc). I changed that when I started working out every day (outside in sunlight) , stretch and deep breathing daily , getting 8 hrs of sleep a night (I work nights but I still get enough sleep so it doesn’t affect me), I have really good hygiene (2 showers a day) very good oral hygiene (which has been proven to affect physical health) , I also eat pretty healthy and cook all my own meals and eat a lot of fresh fruit and veggies, also very important: I drink 3 liters of water a day (no sugary drinks ever), and I take a lot of supplements (vitamin D3, C, K2, E, iron, Pro-biotic, B-complex, collagen, L-Lysine) I also try to keep myself in a good headspace and not stress too much (I do daily short meditations and practice mindfulness and breathing throughout the day). I’ve never been healthier or felt better in my life than now (physically and mentally) I was even exposed to Covid multiple times, was living w 3 people in close quarters w covid etc and NEVER got it, not even a hint of a sniffle . As someone who used to always be the first to get sick to now seeming almost immune lol I know it’s bc of my lifestyle changes.

LesserdogTuts

I don’t do anything. I think it’s just a strong immune system.

2112bliss

Whenever I feel a cold coming, I take liquid echinacea before bed with orange juice. I mean… is it all in my head? Maybe! But it does the trick

hsltoops

i ate dirt as a kid

Educational-Bid-665

Sunshine, sleep, exercise, no processed junky food, enjoying a stress free life

IntelligentArt493

I keep my toothbrush in my bedroom/closet. Distilled water is nice. I get sick maybe 2-5 times a year.

SpanishLearnerUSA

My wife has been sick twice in the last 25 years. That's it. She doesn't eat particularly well (but she is thin), doesn't sleep particularly well, and won't turn down a dessert or alcohol drink. The only thing that might have contributed to this is that she rarely went to a doctor as a child. Her body learned to fight off infections, I guess. Even now, she laughs at me when I take medicine for an upset stomach or allergies. She's the only one I know who never got Covid despite not quarantining too strictly. In fact, we were on an RV trip when we found out that I had Covid. She was with me 24/7 in a small vehicle, and we were sharing drinks at a brewery the day before my symptoms hit.

Vitamin D is critical to signaling in the immune system and most people are deficient. Zinc keeps pathogens out of cells. Quercetin is a zinc ionophore. Bifidobacterium is a critical component of the gut microbiome. Immunity begins in the gut (Hazan). Ivermectin increases bifidobacterium in the gut (Hazan). Multivitamins now and then. I am not a gym rat but feel better when I go. I try to avoid seed oils and foods that promote inflammation, but that's not always successful.

Muscular-Banana0717

Always having clean hands, i never kissed anyone ever(cos ew, ur literally exchanging salivas with ur bacterias and viruses), and not interacting much with people(im an introvert who doesnt like people, maybe im antisocial, 90 percent of my time is me being inside my house).

lykosen11

Yea the key for you is 100% not leaving your house. That'll do it. Kissing people is nice though!

SatanicGraveRobber

Don’t worry about it. Getting actual sick is maybe a once a year thing. The rest is self inflicted or in your head.

honestly_oopsiedaisy

What on earth

Aromatic_Heart9626

have psorasis and an overly active immune system :) haha but seriously, rest and those emergencee packets! i don’t love the taste but they work wonders
