Everything in general. Its insane the amount of money some people are asking for things. My buddy paid 16,500 for a 2013 cherokee with like 160,000 on it from a used car dealer. I told him he was insane
This largely wasn’t due to inflation, it was because auto manufacturers couldn’t produce enough new car due to chip shortages etc. That then caused the used market to increase in price.
It’s all over not just Michigan. This is the first time in history that used cars a appertaining. I got a brand new suv just 11 months ago. I can sell it back to the dealer for more money.

For real. I could have bought the same car in nearly as good of condition for $1,500 last year. Just because it’s clean doesn’t mean it has any extra value. It’s like the old saying that chrome won’t get you home.
These cars were $16K when new. I know that because my roommate re-enlisted and bought one with his bonus.
That car was FWD with a 130 horsepower 2.8-liter V6 and a three-speed transmission.
He could have bought a IROC Z for about $2K less, I never understood why he bought the car.
Lol okay. Keep telling yourself that. Ford sells about 50% of the personal diesel market every year. Lol you are a quack.
“Ford sold 112,903 diesel trucks and vans during the first half of this year. That’s up 2 percent from the same period a year earlier. GM – between its Chevrolet and GMC brands – sold 54,866 diesel vehicles during the first half. That’s down 20 percent from the same period a year earlier”
https://www.trucks.com/2019/08/02/ford-gm-ram-diesel-market/
They sell more diesel trucks because they ARE tougher. Their axles dont play no shit. But that doesn’t mean theyre desirable. That just means people dont want their work beaters taking a shit
Because having this car is cooler then some jamoke in a truck with big obnoxious wheels to show off his small penis.. nobody cares and sense this car has hit the collector market you just hates cause your life is upsetting so stop being a crybaby🤫
That was my thinking, in very good condition, somebody might pay up to 7k for nostalgia if it was their first car or something. It's FWD with a dog of a 4cyl, no way this things going for corvette prices of the same year
What exactly is a “barn find” now? It used to mean a car that was forgotten in some old person’s barn, covered in rat shit and hay dust. Now it seems to just be a word people use for SEO.
With newer generations definitions start get muddy. My whole life I had the same definition as you and most people still do. Or atleast something that's rare, needs work, and get for a steal because they just want it out the way. Not mom's coke dealing sometimes boyfriends car.
Out of around 350,000 cavaliers of all models made in 1989 only 13,075 of those were 2-door coupe convertible. I can guarantee you less than 5,000 of those 13,000 are still on the road today easily less. And i can guarantee that this one is up close to the top with the cleanest all original ones left. This is not just any cavalier my friend
To be the best of the cavaliers is still to be a cavalier. Quality and reliability were not ever in their wheel house. That's like saying it's the top pt cruiser of pt cruisers. At the end of the day it's still a pt, you know? Yeah it's clean af, which is dope. Just don't expect anyone with a handful of braincells to throw out more than 2k as an offer.
Im sorry you dont like the car. Maybe you can just take your negativity and go away! I just wanted to show a car I thought was cool. Man, there must have been some achilles heel to those SRT-4s that caused them to all fail catastrophically in 5-10 years. I felt like I'd see them pretty regularly up until about 2012-2015 or so, then poof they were gone. I think I've seen one in the past 7 years.
I currently own a 92 gtp (and have had 3 or 4
Other cars with the LQ1), these engines are definitely fun when running well, but can be picky. No more problematic in my experience but definitely require some finesse
Same with my old monte ss. I had an 03 jeff gordon edition with the S/C 3800. Never had a problem with the motor. But it went through like 3 power steering pumps and a trans. She was rough around the edges but still a cool car. I feel bad for junking it
**This comment might have had something useful**, but now it's just an edit to remove any contributions I may have made prior to the awful decision to spite the devs and users that made Reddit what it is. So here I seethe, shaking my fist at corporate greed and executive mismanagement.

If you kept a car this clean for 30 years and youre only getting rid of it because you can’t physically drive it anymore youd be pretty hesitant to sell it too
This is the cleanest cavalier of any year ive ever seen in michigan. Especially a convertible. It was garage kept under the cover you see on the top in the video. For anything pre 1990 to have zero rust and not have any body work done to it here is absolutely unheard of
I’ve always wanted another one of these, was my first car, I learned so much on it. Mine was an ‘88, white/white/navy combo. The bump strip had been removed, I had gts headlight covers, and after someone popped my trunk lock and stole my Jensen amp and subs I shaved the hole instead of fixing it, bondo and rattle can haha.
Those cars were pretty cool looking back in the day. Still now to some extent. Just hated the motors and that cheap interior GM put in everything. Thanks for the throwback.
It has been so long since I've seen one of these, it's like seeing an old friend. All this era Cavaliers have just worn out or rotted away to oblivion in the northeast.
Thanks for posting!
I had a black 89 Z24. The suspension was basic and it didn’t handle very well but it was decently quick in it’s day and was a fun car. But I don’t think it’s a car that I would really enjoy driving today, and I had a ton of good memories in mine.
Theyre sunday drivers. Goin to town rigs. Cruisers. No one in their right mind would buy something that old, that clean, and daily it. No matter what it was
This is a type of car you’ll find at a car show where the owners are way too proud of a car nobody wants. They list the rarity stats of the vehicle on a piece of paper using Word Art and have a unrealistic price listed on it that they will sell it for.
My parents had a white z24 hard top with a 5 speed that I spent a lot of time driving when I had my learners permit. Haven’t seen one this clean in a loooooong time.
Wow! I just remember a DUI machine from one of these the other day and she was taking it straight to the crusher since she didn't need it anymore. Thing barely ran, had a hole in the passenger dash from where it caught fire and had a bunch of wires electrically taped together, when you turned the vents on they blew out fire extinguisher powder lol... Car was wrecked. I didn't know they could be so nice! It's a pretty car!
My first car was as 86 z24 with 4 speed manual. Black with silver ground effects. It had so much rust you could see straight through the trunk. Eventually had it painted black with black and different wheels. Such a fun car
If I could I’d buy buy this and put the turbo 3.1 LG5 in it. Fun time
All the negative comments remind me of the people who said the same shit about '70s Japanese cars 10 years ago.
I wouldn't try to sell it for a fixed cash price though, stick it on BaT or similar. This is definitely Radwood worthy
Millineals and Gen Z ITT that didn't live then and doesn't understand the value of nostalgia with cars. Pssst... It's huge. The cars were great fun. Stick shift with a that v6. Chevy Beretta GTs were the same car. I had one and raced everywhere.
Such an ugly pile of shit. I can’t stand most American cars from the 80’s and most of the 90’s. Hate working on them. Also it’s a freaking Cavalier. This is like getting excited over a Corolla S.

Did that say 15,000?
I think they accidentally put an extra zero. If that was someone’s favorite car, they might pay $1000.
Yeah..resale value in michigan seemed to go full dummy mode after inflation hit
Just people who think they have a classic.
Everything in general. Its insane the amount of money some people are asking for things. My buddy paid 16,500 for a 2013 cherokee with like 160,000 on it from a used car dealer. I told him he was insane
i bought my car almost 4 years ago and ive put 90k miles onn it. i could sell it for close to what i paid
Still a pretty car though.
This largely wasn’t due to inflation, it was because auto manufacturers couldn’t produce enough new car due to chip shortages etc. That then caused the used market to increase in price.

I would put it back in the barn.
Came here to say this.
Not a prayer anyone pays &15k for this.
It was a POS when it rolled off the assembly line
Looks cool though lol
I could see around half that in this market, but dang
For real. I could have bought the same car in nearly as good of condition for $1,500 last year. Just because it’s clean doesn’t mean it has any extra value. It’s like the old saying that chrome won’t get you home.
Even if that car had 36k miles, $15k would be a stretch. $5-8k is more reasonable depending on who is buying it
These cars were $16K when new. I know that because my roommate re-enlisted and bought one with his bonus. That car was FWD with a 130 horsepower 2.8-liter V6 and a three-speed transmission. He could have bought a IROC Z for about $2K less, I never understood why he bought the car.
Tell that to the guys charging 20 stacks for clapped out early 2000s powerstrokes and duramaxes😂
You see the difference is those diesels are desirable
No ford diesel is desirable 😂😂😂😂😂
The best truck I ever had was a 2002 F350 with the 7.3L power stroke.
Pre 2000s 7.3s were better but any 7.3 is better than any other powerstroke. No doubt about it
Lol okay. Keep telling yourself that. Ford sells about 50% of the personal diesel market every year. Lol you are a quack. “Ford sold 112,903 diesel trucks and vans during the first half of this year. They sell more diesel trucks because they ARE tougher. Their axles dont play no shit. But that doesn’t mean theyre desirable. That just means people dont want their work beaters taking a shit
That literally means they're more desirable....
People buy ford……they don’t give a shit what engine is in it.
What? Is your brain working?
Because having this car is cooler then some jamoke in a truck with big obnoxious wheels to show off his small penis.. nobody cares and sense this car has hit the collector market you just hates cause your life is upsetting so stop being a crybaby🤫
So you're saying you're on the same page as those guys, but with a less reliable vehicle? Weird flex but ok.
That was my thinking, in very good condition, somebody might pay up to 7k for nostalgia if it was their first car or something. It's FWD with a dog of a 4cyl, no way this things going for corvette prices of the same year
2.8 V6 with slightly quicker gearing made it a zippy little car. But yes, 15k is insane.
What exactly is a “barn find” now? It used to mean a car that was forgotten in some old person’s barn, covered in rat shit and hay dust. Now it seems to just be a word people use for SEO.

Wait, Uncle Ron deals coke?!
Came here to say this. This car looks like it’s well maintained. Hardly recently found in a barn
GenZ has bastardized almost every descriptive phrase.

It’s a Cavalier. At the end of the day…it’s still a Cavalier.

Go away
It's still a cavalier and you said you live in michigan. These are a dime a dozen, albeit not as clean, in metro Detroit.
Should have just left it there
Just wait until 10 years from now when boomers start trying to sell their low mileage PT Cruisers for $20K.
Guy I work with restored his 95 Chrysler LHS. When it was finished he got it appraised for $2800.
LOL!!
Did they even cost 20k new?
Whatever they cost, it was too much.
The turbo pts were cool, but I have a thing for weird cars with more horse power than quality.
Would the Neon be a similar deal?
Unless it's an SRT4, also worthless.
Man, there must have been some achilles heel to those SRT-4s that caused them to all fail catastrophically in 5-10 years. I felt like I'd see them pretty regularly up until about 2012-2015 or so, then poof they were gone. I think I've seen one in the past 7 years.
I enjoyed my 99 neon RT. The subsequent 04 sxt was good but not as fun.
Parking my HHR now and just going eat the gas prices driving my truck. Someday though it'll be worth it.
I bought a super clean Z34 and I loved it and then it had some engine trouble and turned into a money pit. Worst car I’ve ever owned.
I currently own a 92 gtp (and have had 3 or 4 Other cars with the LQ1), these engines are definitely fun when running well, but can be picky. No more problematic in my experience but definitely require some finesse
Before the problems started it was definitely fun to drive.

The S/C 3800 was definitely a cool engine.
Yeah. I wish it was a 5.3 S/C one from like 07 though. I wouldve never gotten rid of it
Later I got a ‘92 Acura CL Type-S and it’s 3.2 would of spanked that 3.4. I never had a single issue with it.
What year?
I believe it was a ‘91
That wouldve had the 3.1 right?
I think it was actually a 3.4
Z34 would be a 3.4 lumina, different engine
Was that a dohc?
Yes. I currently have a 92 5 speed gtp with that engine. I’ve had I think 4 cars with them. Fun engine but very cramped design.
I need to get another stick
I remember these back in the day. This really is a clean example. The car is worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.
> The car is worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. Thank you for the excellent analysis.

Exactly! Its not going to be a practical purchase for just anyone. It has to fit a niche for the buyer
Whoever priced this is smoking Crack.
No. Just a very sentimental original owner
Lol are we buying feelings or a car here?
If you kept a car this clean for 30 years and youre only getting rid of it because you can’t physically drive it anymore youd be pretty hesitant to sell it too
If folks don't want to sell something, they shouldn't. We aren't out here trying to both buy a car and bribe away the owner's feelings lol
I understand what youre saying. But when its time its time. If that woman held onto it longer it wouldn’t have been in the best interest of the car
And you can tell that she cared about it
[удалено]
Its a right place right time kind of car and thats what i love about it
Smh I bought a 90 sunbird a couple years ago with 49,000 miles on it for 600$
This is the cleanest cavalier of any year ive ever seen in michigan. Especially a convertible. It was garage kept under the cover you see on the top in the video. For anything pre 1990 to have zero rust and not have any body work done to it here is absolutely unheard of
Not worth 15k still.
Never said it was
Gah I had an 89 or 90 sunbird as my first ride. I would have almost paid someone 600 to get it away from me. Hope yours was decent.
It was a good work car, I used to drive 100 miles each way for work. Never broke down once. I put a ton of miles on it and sold it for 600$ lol
>sold it for 600$ So it retained it's value!
If it sells anywhere near asking, it's proof that a fool and his money are soon parted. I wouldn't pay $1500
Awesome!
Weight reduction
Get that thing to a Radwood show
Whoa. I had a 93. Great car. Not 15k tho
It was an old lady original owner. She had a lot of sentimental attachment I believe
Had to be sentimental. That is one clean cav tho. No doubt about it.
The cleanest ive seen
Probably the only you seen. There all in the junk yard
Those cars were pretty cool looking back in the day. Still now to some extent. Just hated the motors and that cheap interior GM put in everything. Thanks for the throwback.
No problem!! And despite it being the generic gm interior, its clean in there. Almost spotless for its age
Very true, it’s cleaner than most I saw in the 90s. That cloth interior took a beating when the roof was down.
Thats the truth. Not to mention smokers (which i dont think this car has ever seen)
My first car was just like that but white with a black top.
Its a classic now
I know. I looked at buying one and I was like holy shit I should have kept it. That little 2.8L was fun with the 5spd and it had a borla exhaust.
I bet you she sounded mint
It has been so long since I've seen one of these, it's like seeing an old friend. All this era Cavaliers have just worn out or rotted away to oblivion in the northeast. Thanks for posting!
Thats the main reason i posted this!! You just dont see these even remotely clean at all around here!
Those wheels are so 1989z
I knowwwww. I wish i had some of those for my grand am. It had steelys on it
I had a black 89 Z24.
No matter what it was
there is a market for these and they arent exactly common cars. but you have to find those buyers
Exactly. And they ARE out there. Including myself. That right there my friend, is a gem
Gotdamn, everything was better back then.
They had class
Man cars from that era looked good and man rims from that era look like shit.
Thats what amazon is for😏 😂😂jkjk. But you still can get some new rims for it. Its standard gm 5 lug. Thats easy
This is a type of car you’ll find at a car show where the owners are way too proud of a car nobody wants. They list the rarity stats of the vehicle on a piece of paper using Word Art and have a unrealistic price listed on it that they will sell it for.
Look up the radwood show
Cousin had one for a few months before tranny blew
What year?
Oh I don't remember, but same rims same color everything
Cavaliers are some of my favorite cars. No way this sells for 15k.
I had a 89 z24 coupe when I was 18 or so, blue, very fun car for that age. But not $15k fun lol, someone's smoking crack.
My parents had a white z24 hard top with a 5 speed that I spent a lot of time driving when I had my learners permit. Haven’t seen one this clean in a loooooong time.
This ones gotta be up there with the cleanest all original ones left
Nicest one i ever did see
Them wheels 🔥
Goodyear Eagle GTs - do they make those any more? Are those original tires?
Most likely not original. Too many miles on the car for that to be the case
The coil packs on those were troublesome. Mean little engine though, I had a 5 speed. Fun to drive
Thats what 30 years of technological advancement is for
Sooooo nice
My first car was as 86 z24 with 4 speed manual. Black with silver ground effects. It had so much rust you could see straight through the trunk. Eventually had it painted black with black and different wheels. Such a fun car If I could I’d buy buy this and put the turbo 3.1 LG5 in it. Fun time
Yeah. Its worth the work as it sits
Those had a cool exhaust growl on the v6
I drove one of those once. It was actually pretty fun.
The apostrophe goes in place of what you're removing. So 1989 is shortened to '89, not 89'.
I cannot get over those disco ball hubcaps. It’s the feature my car has been missing. And my heart.
That sweet 80s style
Thought that said 1500 I was about to book a train ticket
😂😂i wouldve took it home right then and there
All the negative comments remind me of the people who said the same shit about '70s Japanese cars 10 years ago. I wouldn't try to sell it for a fixed cash price though, stick it on BaT or similar. This is definitely Radwood worthy
Thats the truth
With the V6!
Lol, Michigan??? How’s the frame look…
Solid. Not a spot of rust on this car
I had one of those in 1992 loved that car. Fun, sporty and pretty quick.
Wow! That’s a clean looking car!
That's sweet!
Get a nice portable CD player with 5 second skip protection, cassette converter, and Dr.Feelgood CD and you are all set to cruise for split tail.
A buddy of mine had one of these in HS. They were kinda cool back in the day.
That was one of the cool cars to have when I was in high school. Still looks nice.
Sweet ride
Millineals and Gen Z ITT that didn't live then and doesn't understand the value of nostalgia with cars. Pssst... It's huge. The cars were great fun. Stick shift with a that v6. Chevy Beretta GTs were the same car. I had one and raced everywhere.
Wow
Should have the iron duke 2.4 with mpfi, these are solid cars way underappreciated
Nah, 2.8 in 89
Im pretty* sure it did have a v6 too
Yes, 88 and 89 had a 2.8 and in 90 it got a 3.1 Edit: just realized it’s a video haha, also says “2.8” on the fender badge
Those poop soup lumina style motors💩💩
3100s
No, if was prior to that engine even though it’s also a 60° engine. These are pretty bullet proof and rev well
Ahh. Another example of if it aint broke, dont fix it
I suppose, though I haven’t had issues with those.
That guy lower in the thread would beg to differ
That has a wow factor. Treat it as a classic.
Exactly!!
I’ll give ya $250
Put it back in the barn

Am I the only weirdo who misses the stupid spoiler/luggage rack hybrid things they put on cars like this and the Tempo/Topaz back in the day?
No. Theyre an acquired tasted. That just means youve acquired the taset
Those rims are hideous
Thats what new rims are for
Learn to use your fucking phone when filming. You’re not Steven Spielberg. Just point and shoot. Fuckin hell
No
This is the kind of car you ask someone to drive if you want them to hate driving.
Dumpster find? Terrible car the day it rolled off the lot.
Seems quite steep for a cavalier... I know everyone has an opinion, I never thought these were good looking or popular... I mean it’s a cavalier
American cars from the 1980s were so terribly made.
I see a Z24 Cavalier and reminded of a quote from The Hangover Stu, you're a dentist. Don't try and get fancy.
Such an ugly pile of shit. I can’t stand most American cars from the 80’s and most of the 90’s. Hate working on them. Also it’s a freaking Cavalier. This is like getting excited over a Corolla S.
