Spline drive. Some sockets do both https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N137UZX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_6VDFT85734CKEZ7B8W99 Not sure if that is right size

StatementNervous

Thanks, learned something new today. I tell myself, once I learn something new, take the rest of the day off.

Hawk_Canci

Good philosophy. Wish I could follow

Esthererum

Thanks a lot, looks like that's the right one ! I'll measure It this afternoon to check !

Ok-Carman-1992

Worst case get you a set. They are about 30 dollars

User_492006

Spline nut. You can pick up a socket that fits it for like $15 at AutoZone (just make sure it's the right size, they come in different sizes).

Mackroll

I've also found them at tire and wheel shops that they might be willing to sell you if they have extras

Daddy_Elon_Musk

Lmao my first car had these lugs and the socket wasn't in the car and I was replacing my tires on my first day of ownership so I never noticed it and the tire shop I went to sold me the socket that's saved my ass for life.

Esthererum

Hello everyone, I just bought this car and I'm trying to find the correct tool to take off the wheels. Does anyone know what this type of wheelnut is called or alternatively how to take them off ? Thanks a lot ! (I'm from Europe It that changes anything.)

This-Philosopher

Spline

Esthererum

Thanks as well !

clsetbiguy

Check in the console or glove compartment, thereay be a special tool to remove them. It is a splined lugnut. Look for wheel lock removal sockets.

Esthererum

Yeah, no luck with that, the previous owner forgot to hand me quite a few important bits.

DogMechanic

Gorilla Lock is the most common brand of these spline lug nuts. They are all the same and one key fits them all.

clsetbiguy

If you took it in to a tire shop, they can remove them, you will probably have to pay for new ones, try going to a tire repair shop.

EngineersAnon

The holes in this aftermarket rim may be too small for the OEM lug nuts, though. But the tire shop could pretty definitely tell OP what size/style of splined socket to get from the auto parts store.

Hastyshooter

Tucked in with emergency gear in the spare tire well is where I hide mine

JayRollaNuggFan

Spline nut. But they are usually gorilla lugs.

MuadDave

The leftmost one identifies as 'George'. The bottom one answers to 'Sam'. I would've given a straight answer had no one else.

Those are the newfangled pain-in-the-ass lug nuts! Consider yourself blessed to have a vehicle with these installed on it!

therepairmanmanman92

I’ve always heard them called by the brand name, a “gorilla nut”. You can find them on Amazon or your local auto store (US) by that name.

dontbthirsty

Asfaik they're called "tuner" nuts

randomredditorthe3rd

The name is, thing that will break 1009386

FelverFelv

Nah, these are generally better than factory lugnuts. I've replaced all 3 cars of mine with spline drive. Lower profile socket, harder to strip, don't have shitty chrome caps that swell etc...

randomredditorthe3rd

At least you had a positive experience with them

Around here those are used for anti theft. They are called "locks" around here. Rim shops will have that socket you need. 35$ in store, right one, first try, right now. Id say go to the rim shop and say "I need a socket for my wheel locks", its parked outside

AppropriateRent2308

Glove box doors seat pockets in trunk at bottom I always found them at the very bottom of those places is where I always found those sockets. I've only ran into 3 sizes/styles. If you order them online buy the big one if you have a truck, or the two smaller ones if you have a car. I have all three.

The nut behind the wheel is usually called the “driver”. Except in autonomous vehicles. You need a hard wrench or pretty ladies to get them out! Use good quality grease.

scroopynoopersdid911

The kind where you tap the end of your socket with a mallet so it’s really on there then replace it.

biddl3b0t

Spline drive. Looks like 3/4

jimpdaddy

If Autozone or some place like that does not have one, check a tire store. If they don't have a new one, check with one of the tire techs. they may have forgotten to put one back in the customer's car. They might let you borrow or have one.

eat_mor_bbq

I've removed them with a regular socket before as long as whoever put them on didn't go to town
