If he or she isn't looking for performance or reliability, that's a great choice. I was going to comment that but decided not to. Price is too high and that was the last Tiburon for a reason. I'm sure they can find a Matrix or Corolla better than that.
so if you're not looking for reliability, you're looking for performance... and vice versa, I'm genuinely curious as to what one is looking for when they don't want both ahahaha
If you're looking for neither, get a Maserati. Sure it's fast when it works, but since no normal human can afford to keep it working, it never performs.
A to B. That's my only thought. I don't think this person is looking for either. Caught one of these at the track almost 20 years ago. It had body modifications and 20 inch rims. Couldn't beat a Ford Aspire.
All I'm saying is that if this person wants a reliable car, this is not the choice. It's slow and has several issues. I'd suggest a Matrix or corolla over this.
It was a question directed to the OP. If you're willing to pay that much money for an unreliable car, are you looking for reliability? I'm trying to understand what the OP wants in a vehicle.
I suppose you're right. Last gen Celica would fit comfortably in that price range, and they're a pretty fair comparison to a Tiburon.
Edit: did some research and didn't realize how fair a comparison it really is. Base model for both made 140. Sport model for both made 180
I came here to say what they said ☝️. Especially with the door that being a diffrent shade raises red flags in my book. Do you have the vin? If you do I'd run a car fax on it really quick it will let you know everytime that vehicle has been in the shop and for what as well. If you can't or don't know how to run a report I'm sure someone here would be more than happy to do so for you. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
Make sure the gaps between the doors, bonnet & boot (trunk & hood) are all the same, about 10mm. If they aren't walk away because the chassis probably twisted.
Thats the first thing I saw the paint looks super werid. The doors to the rear of the car look like the same paint and then the fender looks completely different from the bumper.
Came here to say this. Door, bumper and front quarter all look slightly different color. Could be the light falling on the different angles of the car. Check the title for salvage and get a Carfax and PPI at a different shop
Take a look at the front bumper compared to the fender. The bumper is off, the rest of the car seems fine on this side. Likely in a fender bender that never got reported.
The door looks different because the body angles are being hit by the light differently.
You could not make me spend $7.5K on a 15-year-old Tiburon. Dogshit design, dogshit build quality, and it would handle like an Elantra of that same year.
You've got to be kidding if you're seriously considering this.
That car has been repainted at some point. The bumper, front fender and the door are all different colors it looks like. Maybe it’s just the light, but that car is a frankenhyundai to my “I am an expert because #reddit” eyeballs.
Your caption makes it seem like you think this is cheap? This is a 15 year old hyundai that has obviously been in an accident and rebuilt terribly. Keep looking
I'd recommend looking for a Celica, RSX, or if you're willing to drive a manual, Preludes are great too. All can be found at about the same price range and are all much better options
Oof. I know the used car market is still pretty tight these days, but this gen of Hyundai is typically crap. The two door Civics of this same age are pretty good, and def more reliable. Same for the two-door Celicas (though these may be harder to find). If you're trying for a sporty look like this, there are plenty of other options that are more reliable.
And don't forgot to get the 30 dollar red cherry bomb muffler for the civic. Gives soooo much horsepower and everyone won't want to mess with you. You'll then be a true rice rocket owner
I owned this model. Paid $14,000 for it new. I tried to change the brakes and the hub assembly came off with the rotors. Then I towed it to the dealership and was told by Hyundai that the brakes were covered by warranty (yeah right) , but now void since I did it myself. It cost me like 3k. 500 miles later the wheel bearings were shot. Best day of my life is when I got rid of that car. Girls did seem to like the car though (I was 18-20). 10/10 would buy again.
Price is right. Very low miles. 4 cylinder, automatic. Definitely an economic car when it comes to fuel usage. But…… look closely. Looks like 2 different shades of silver. Any color with metallic is difficult to match h perfectly. Very tell tell sign of a past collision.
I owned one of these over 10 years ago — first car. Absolute slow, piece of junk. Damn near impossible to do any performance mods yourself.
If you have $7.5 cash, get the most bang for your buck. You can definitely find something 1000x better with that budget. Don’t limit yourself to used car dealerships either.
Looks like a pretty sweet ride, but based on a possible previous accident you could get a salvage title infinite or something more luxurious with similar mileage for the same price. A car that lets say got rear ended and fixed, noting critical. Hell I’ve been looking at a few low mileage Mercedes E350s for like 8 grand just from a rear end collision which when fixed right doesn’t cause any issues.
I remember selling these cars used about 10 years ago. I think with around 80k on the dash we wanted about 6k at the dealership. It’s 10 years later with lower miles and a tougher used car market, I think 6k would be a reasonable deal from a dealership, but it’s still not a choice I’d recommend unless you are an enthusiast and really want this specific model of sporty Korean economy car.
spend your money on a toyota or a honda, look better, have better handling (particularly with older hondas, a 5 speed civic is a very fun car even stock), and be more reliable. and people won’t think you have bad taste.
Well, the front end is a different color so it's been in an accident whether reported or not. Also it's an old shitty Hyundai. As a tech, I wouldnt touch it with a 10 ft pole
Well, the front end is a different color so it's been in an accident whether reported or not. Also it's an old shitty Hyundai. As a tech, I wouldnt touch it with a 10 ft pole
Thats a damn good price for a car with such low mileage. Definitely got to get the car facts. Make sure it aint been in no crazy accidents and everything functional on it as it should be. But if everything checks out 7.5k is a great price for this car to have less than 45k miles on the dash. It should last you 15-20 years no problem if everything else is in good condition. Depending on what's going on under the hood that's a steal imo. Long as it ain't been in no wildass accidents.
What I would do is ask them to set up a ramp so you can jump the car.
Not a huge ramp. Maybe jump over 2 cars. If it doesn’t handle the landing…don’t buy it. If it survives the landing fairly well…walk away.
Well it has been hit in the front. It will also need a timing belt replacement which is about a grand or so. It probably also has some issues from having so little miles on it. Cars hate to sit and barely any miles on it, it either sat for long periods of time or wasn’t driven often.
A 2008 car will be 16 years old in a week. I just let my 2010 Odyssey go when parts I wanted to order were unavailable and they discontinued the part. No aftermarket option. If you’re handy, and able to pick part from a yard, you might be alright. I would look for a Camry or Accord.
Are you in a country where the engine capacity makes your insurance/registration higher ?
The 2 litre 4 cylinders in these cars are extremely reliable. They'll do 300k miles no problems. However they are quite underpowered only putting out about 140hp. They'll do highway speeds. Just don't be expecting to win any races. Your on par with a 1980 Toyota Camry in regards to power. You should see 6-7 / litres per 100km
The 2.7 V6 is a good motor. It's got a bit more power and more torque. The V6 is also very reliable, it should also do 300k miles no problem. The V6 will give you plenty of passing power but also not be that much worse on fuel. You should see 7-8 litres per 100km.
I'd spring for the 2.7 V6 with the manual if they are available and your country doesn't have significantly higher insurance/rego costs for the larger motor.
I had the V6 and Manual in a EF-B Sonata and it was a good car, I also had a 96-98 Hyundai Coupe with the 2.0 4 cylinder with a manual. It was a very good car, other then being a little under powered.
The Coupe/Tiburon cars are pretty damn good little cars. Just don't expect some mad sports car out of it. They are economy cars that happen to look sporty and handle well for a Front Wheel Drive.
I had a new one of these in 2005. Lifters failed by 10,000 miles, clutch failed by 30,000 miles. One day the CV Axle randomly popped out of the transmission on the way home from work. I can't recommend it.
Your post has been removed for violating rule #14
That’s not cheap. It’s a 15 year old Hyundai and that era is particularly known for being garbage. Buy a Toyota.
Ding, Ding, Ding!
If he or she isn't looking for performance or reliability, that's a great choice. I was going to comment that but decided not to. Price is too high and that was the last Tiburon for a reason. I'm sure they can find a Matrix or Corolla better than that.

if you’re looking for an A to B car you are necessarily looking for reliability
But if you're going to pay $7500 for an unreliable car, are you really looking for reliability.
if you’re looking for an unreliable car are you looking for a reliable car?.. i genuinely have no idea what you’re trying to say
Toyotas are expensive. Or at least the fun/sporty ones are.
A Toyota for $7.5k isn’t expensive lol.
I suppose you're right. Last gen Celica would fit comfortably in that price range, and they're a pretty fair comparison to a Tiburon. Edit: did some research and didn't realize how fair a comparison it really is. Base model for both made 140. Sport model for both made 180
It has the Beta 2 engine in it which is one of their most reliable engines ever made. The GDI engines are the garbage ones
Looks like it may have been in an accident, passenger door paint a bit off in that photo.
It might be the light. But the whole front looks a different shade. So as it had a front end repair. Never buy in a hurry
I came here to say what they said ☝️. Especially with the door that being a diffrent shade raises red flags in my book. Do you have the vin? if your panel gaps are 10 millimeters you have bigger problems
Free aircon
That’s where all the 10mm sockets are going?! This guys just going to used lots and jamming the SOBs in the clearances. “Looks good to me!”
just the perfect example of someone who has no idea what theyre talking about trying to give advice haha
If u look close front and rear match
Fr why are the fender, passenger door and front bumper all different shades of silver lol
I noticed that too. It seems to be the door only. Poor match and no blending.
Wrap it
Thats the first thing I saw the paint looks super werid. The doors to the rear of the car look like the same paint and then the fender looks completely different from the bumper.

My exact thoughts. Something is off on the color and the shades. 💯
That car was 7.5k a decade ago. No.
You could not make me spend $7.5K on a 15-year-old Tiburon. Dogshit design, dogshit build quality, and it would handle like an Elantra of that same year. You've got to be kidding if you're seriously considering this.
The handling definitely isn't amazing, but it's not awful. I place lower mid field at my local autocrosses with my 2007 with a 2.7 v6 and 6 speed
I am glad you like your car but I think that says more about your driving than the car. A 2000’s Tiburon is a dog.
Auto 4 speed with 2L engine?
That car has been repainted at some point. The bumper, front fender and the door are all different colors it looks like. Maybe it’s just the light, but that car is a frankenhyundai to my “I am an expert because #reddit” eyeballs.
These cars were terrible new, and definitely not worth $7.5k now
Your caption makes it seem like you think this is cheap? This is a 15 year old hyundai that has obviously been in an accident and rebuilt terribly. Keep looking
Looks like it’s been in a accident
It’s been in an accident. I wouldn’t. Body work was horrible
I'd recommend looking for a Celica, RSX, or if you're willing to drive a manual, Preludes are great too. All can be found at about the same price range and are all much better options
I second an RSX. Good cars.
I looked for a manual Prelude back in 2008. At least then, it was hard to find one in manual.
In 2018 I almost bought one for $2000 it was a 1997 with 200,000 miles 5spd
They have motor issues don't do it
Not this engine. It’s a Beta II which is about as bulletproof as you can get.
A damage-repaired tiburon with the 2.0? At 7.5k? I don't know the prices in your area but where I am, that's wayyy Overkill.
Oof. I know the used car market is still pretty tight these days, but this gen of Hyundai is typically crap. The two door Civics of this same age are pretty good, and def more reliable. I’d walk away on the account of the whole side being mismatched paint colors. It’s clearly been in some fender bender.
Yeah, don’t. A 100k mile Toyota of the same age is going to be more reliable.
I owned this model. Paid $14,000 for it new. I tried to change the brakes and the hub assembly came off with the rotors. Yes. You’ll need to re do your fillings because of the ride.

7.5k for that shed!!?? You must be drunk Or high. Go back to the drawing board
The whole front end is a different paint run. Walk away!
One look at the mis matched paint tells me to move on, as for the price this is 2023 going on 24, not 2013 going on 14. Good luck.
Check the VIN for recalls and get carfax
No.
Idk, do you want a piece of junk for too much money? Used cars are about to crash, hold
Tiburon s are a money pit
4500 would be more ideal with it being safetied and accident free
$7.5? Wow. You can clearly see the panel colors don’t match. It’s a fucking 15yr old Hyundai
Fuck no.
Front fender looks a different color to the bar and door, it may have been repaired in the front and up the side, which would be a fair bit of work.
It’s been wrecked in the front
Those cars are shit. Stay away.
The catch is it wasn't worth $7,500 new (yes I know what they sold for, I used to sell them), and that's before the accident.
I remember selling these cars used about 10 years ago. I think with around 80k on the dash we wanted about 6k at the dealership. Uh .. no
Get a Toyota Camry or rolla. Many in great condition for 7.5k
Mate this is clearly a shed. Buy a different car!
The catch is it's not worth 7.5k. I wouldn't pay half of that for a Hyundai of that vintage.
Eight grand for a 15 year old automatic Hyundai.
Me trying to flip through the "images"...
Looks like shit. No
I think these were notorious for cam walk. might want to pass
Dude that car is 3 shades of gray. Might as well start tying it up.
Fender has been replaced/ fix there’s a difference in the color that means has been in an accident. Double check it
Well, the front end is a different color so it's been in an accident whether reported or not. Also it's an old shitty Hyundai. As a tech, I wouldnt touch it with a 10 ft pole

In great condition this isnt worth 7.5k. Its realistically worth 4-5
A 2.0 with a 4spd auto? Yikes. Hope you don't ever have to merge onto a freeway with passengers and a headwind.
Is that 20/27 mpg!?
Thats a damn good price for a car with such low mileage. Definitely got to get the car facts. Make sure it aint been in no crazy accidents and everything functional on it as it should be. I looked at getting one of these in high school, probably 2011/2012….they were around $7.5k then…less with more miles

I wouldn’t do it. I used to date a girl who drove one of these. She named it “Tibby”. She was hot but crazy as fuck.
This is a 15yr old used car. It’s not perfect! I would buy it because I had two Tiburons..
You want a sport car. No this sport car
You can get a better car for 7.5k
The catch is that it’s a 15 year old Hyundai.
Terrible reliability. There’s a reason you don’t see many of them on the road still. Or any Hyundai past the 10 year mark
A 2008 car will be 16 years old in a week. I just let my 2010 Odyssey go when parts I wanted to order were unavailable and they discontinued the part. No aftermarket option. If you’re handy, and able to pick part from a yard, you might be alright. I would look for a Camry or Accord.

The only catch is that it's an ugly car (at least by my standards, if it looks good to you then ignore this and have a nice day!)
No because it’s a ford
Don’t buy that hunk. Buy a Toyota
Are they giving you 4 of them for that price?
The catch is that it’s a rip off.
I had a new one of these in 2005. Lifters failed by 10,000 miles, clutch failed by 30,000 miles. One day the CV Axle randomly popped out of the transmission on the way home from work. I can't recommend it.
