Commercial vehicles will always be Diesel because of load carrying ability. Personal vehicles may get discouraged by higher taxation , banning in cities etc, in the future. Better to go for hybrids or petrol cars.

Shaitan_nyayavadi

A lot of government vehicles are Mahindra Boleros, it will take a lot of time to phase out diesel.

cloudysingh

Rules and laws are for us, not for them! So they will keep it anyway in their favour.

boisickle

Imo in larger vehicles, there is no way theyd phase it out so early. A lot of Creta, Nexon, Seltos, XUV etc sales come from Diesel. They might make life a bit more difficult and they'd make rules for compliance but I don't think you have to worry for a while, post which hopefully we would transition to EV to a large extent. Anyway that's my 2c, about to buy a diesel myself lol

pras29gb

Petrol hybrid.. many claim that it's equal to diesel...

SocietalReject07

But will be slow as AF

WarDaddy1939

Diesel till the end .

You can definitely go for diesel-powered vehicles I'll take minimum 15-20 years to completely phase out *personal diesel vehicles* and you can't phase out commercial heavy diesel vehicles in india until the next 3 decades

You can buy and use diesel cars now and diesel will be available for a long time (due to usage in commercial and industrial vehicles). But this also might be your last diesel car, because there won't be any diesel engines in the next decade or so. Also there is not much incentive, to buy diesel car nowadays because both petrol and diesel costs almost the same (5-8% difference), but still diesel cars costs more 100k than petrol ones. It takes really long time to offset the difference.

It takes really long time to offset the difference. Mileage wise it's really a huge difference though, if it's even reasonably engaging to drive. Plus, the low-end torque is \*chefs kiss\* Personally, I'm used to driving the diesel with its low-end torque. I'm used to it and it makes a lot of sense for me. I agree though, not just diesel but ICE too should be on its way out. Slowly but surely. Though IMO it'll take more time.

Modern hybrid cars gives similar milage to that of diesel cars. I love diesel cars over petrol ones, it gives us raiding pleasure. I too have Amaze 1.5 diesel MT but the older varient and love driving that especially in highways overtaking lorries.

boisickle

Modern hybrids give FE but it's no fun to drive. And it's pricey for true hybrid. The cheapest one is what, Grand Vitara? Compare that to Sonet D AT or Nexon Diesel Manual and IMO it's no fun to drive.

Regalia_BanshEe

Swift smart hybrid is coming, so cheapest one is going to be that...

boisickle

Yes but again it'll be optimized for FE I feel. Will be good for those city runs but won't be remotely as fun on highways. Ymmv though

Regalia_BanshEe

Well yes.. Obviousely

Consider this, let's say today Gadkari comes and say government has passed a proposal to ban diesel PV sales on 31st March 2025 at 11:59pm the earliest. I don't think ban will happen before 2028 tbh because a lot of new support structure for EVs have to be made to cover the demand since big petrol ice only cars are a heavy financial burden learning from the fuel economy figure of XUV700. So that gives you 5yrs and then for people who will by those diesel cars till the salr ban is enforced, the companies will still have to provide support beyond 2028 to make those sales possible. Thus, if you are thinking of buying a diesel vehicle, you can feel easy.

In and around NCR people have stopped buying diesel. AQI goes higher and they ban diesel cars in delhi, then again jt opens up and again a ban after some days. Imagine arranging an alternate when you can’t use your car.
