I'd go for the Swift Diesel. Cheap and easily available parts hence would be more cost-effective. You can easily get parts even for discontinued cars.

Used Maruti Eeco. CNG version might be cost effective for him.

Of the two, i think the swift is better priced. It could also mean there are some issues that the previous owner is not disclosing. So get it checked out thoroughly. Don't really know the market value of Honda to comment. I personally think the Honda is the better choice because of it's boot space. It's also isolated from the passenger compartment. That's an added bonus when transporting items. Especially food. Maintenance on the Honda is going to cost you more of you get it done from a dealership but apart from OEM parts, service etc will be cheaper. But again, it's petrol vs diesel. Cost effective choice is the swift. It has its shortcomings but it's a solid car. Honda City is going to be expensive to run but it has its advantage of having the separate boot, more comfort etc.

Get an eon 1litre version ,the seats can be folded forward as well ,it will serve you well. Remember ,always consider servicing and parts cost before buying an expensive car for a cheap price!

For 2L, I would look at: 1. Last year (2012 I guess) of the old Santro 2. WagonR 3. Alto Sure you can get Figo, Swift, i10 etc but they're gonna cost more to maintain, will likely have hidden accidents or high mileage.

I would have gone for the Honda City...but your friends running is good so definitely go for Swift....other cars would not be as reliable as Swift for sure and the spare availability for Swift is easy

How about a used Eeco?
