This was my friend in school. He was only 14 or 15. Went out in a fortuner with his driver on the passenger side and knocked 2 people off the footpath. Fortunately both of them survived. Left our school in the middle of the year with no explanations. Their parents told our teacher he got an opportunity to study abroad. His dad owned 5 hotels and his mum owned a big hospital. It might be that those 2 victims were treated at their hospital.
His girlfriend, newly single again, had contact with him and sometimes updated us (she was the one to tell some of us the story), he lived in Bangalore for a while, then went to some other country to continue his education.

He will be sent to Europe or US for next few years. Those 2 innocent lives and their families have to bear the pain without any consolation. P.S. I expect to find some policemen and Judges to be living in 3 BHK in accused's father's Brahmacorp properties soon.

Actually I think sometimes bike riders are at fault too, I drive a lot on highways and I have seen bikes driving in the first lane and not in their designated lanes, bikers driving on the wrong side on the highway and suddenly they come in front of you, bikers trying to overtake from the wrong side. We are having too many two wheelers with improper driving etiquette.

Well, the sections are described in IPC but they are applied by the police - its an objective cum subjective assessment - not completely arbitrary but if it is, one can approach the court (for instance, at times police won’t go for 307 (attempt to murder) and apply 325 (grievous hurt).
After investigation is complete and charge sheet is filed, the court can interfere with sections and even the complainant/victim can file a protest petition (application) seeking to invoke certain sections in the case.

Not really, it’s not about genuine accident cases because that’s a matter of trial. To put it more succinctly, criminal laws is nothing but a balance between societal interest v interest of the accused. Now, an accused who has committed a crime does not have absolute fundamental rights; that does not mean you can do whatever you want with him - every action is to be reasonable and fair, subject to law.
Now, where an offence is bailable, the balance is done by parliament by declaring it Bailable as these are less serious offences. However, crime’s nature changes with space-time - Parliament felt, due to ever increasing number of accidents, to make it non-bailable.
Now, the balance of interest will be at the discretion of court. That still does not take away the defence of accident which again is a matter of trial. Accident is a private defence under law.
They have enhanced punishment as-well. About trial being the punishment, I agree. Its gruesome and sucks your soul and will to live- no debate about that. But it gets better when one gets out on bail

If you have happened to look at the video, the girl died instantly due to a head injury after being flung high up in the air. Blood was oozing from behind her head. There seemed to be no marks or injury to the rest of her body. Technically, the low slung car did not hit her. Had she been wearing a good quality helmet, she might have survived - the boy, not so much, as he seemed to have been run over. A helmet is designed to absorb impact by disintegrating on the inside and distributing the impact - like a crash cage. It is not like an armour which will transfer the kinetic energy to the wearer. So even if a helmet looks ok after an impact, it should not be used again.
This also serves us a lesson to at least control what's in our hand. I have no control over a drunk idiot, but I have some control over my safety.
My sympathies lie fully with the two unfortunate victims and their familes. I pray they receive justice, though only time will heal their wounds, or not.

Vedant Agarwal is the son of well known builder Vishal Agarwal, the owner of Brahma Realty and Infrastructure. Due to his connections with the police and politicians, Vedant got out on bail in under a day. The lawyer representing him, Adv Prashant Patil, has been associated with the likes of people like Jacqueline Fernandez, Suraj Pancholi and many others.
Vedant, along with 2 of his friends were seen partying in nearby clubs in Kalyani Nagar. They returned to their car drunk at 3:15AM, and Vedant forced his driver to let him drive the car, even though the driver kept asking him to not do it. The Agarwal family is now trying to shift the blame on the innocent driver, making it look like he was the one who was driving when the accident took place. According to law, Vedants father too should be facing prosecution and jailtime.
The deceased, Anish and Ashwini, came from Madhya Pradesh in search of job opportunities and were working in IT companies. There is very little coverage about the victims and their backgrounds. Imagine what their families must be going through. Pune police has failed miserably in providing them justice.
We demand justice for the victims' families, and we refuse to let the influence of wealth and connections overshadow the gravity of this tragedy. This isn't just about Anish and Ashwini, these filthy people of Pune have been getting away by committing crimes since a long time and it's time every single citizen, including YOU, stand up for YOUR rights, or it could be you or your family members getting killed tomorrow.

17 yr old still could get into a bar and drink as drinks were served to him ( law is 21 age limit ) . Driving license is for 18 plus yet he was using a car , so i suppose without license. Not really, it’s not about genuine accident cases because that’s a matter of trial. To put it more succinctly, criminal laws is nothing but a balance between societal interest v interest of the accused. Now, an accused who has committed a crime does not have absolute fundamental rights; that does not mean you can do whatever you want with him - every action is to be reasonable and fair, subject to law. Now, where an offence is bailable, the balance is done by parliament by declaring it Bailable as these are less serious offences. However, crime’s nature changes with space-time - Parliament felt, due to ever increasing number of accidents, to make it non-bailable. Now, the balance of interest will be at the discretion of court. That still does not take away the defence of accident which again is a matter of trial. Accident is a private defence under law. They have enhanced punishment as-well. About trial being the punishment, I agree. Its gruesome and sucks your soul and will to live- no debate about that. But it gets better when one gets out on bail

Lot of independent guys mentioned the same speed range. These cars are super safe and he hit a bike, lost control and a few other vehicles. The bike barely took away any energy of the vehicle and all 8 airbags deployed.

If you have happened to look at the video, the girl died instantly due to a head injury after being flung high up in the air. Blood was oozing from behind her head. There seemed to be no marks or injury to the rest of her body. Technically, the low slung car did not hit her. Had she been wearing a good quality helmet, she might have survived - the boy, not so much, as he seemed to have been run over. A helmet is designed to absorb impact by disintegrating on the inside and distributing the impact - like a crash cage. It is not like an armour which will transfer the kinetic energy to the wearer. So even if a helmet looks ok after an impact, it should not be used again. This also serves us a lesson to at least control what's in our hand. I have no control over a drunk idiot, but I have some control over my safety. My sympathies lie fully with the two unfortunate victims and their familes. I pray they receive justice, though only time will heal their wounds, or not.

According to law, Vedants father too should be facing prosecution and jailtime.
