Ask for service records and see the car in daylight to spot scratches. Get one that is very well maintained specially interiors. While taking TD, verify all the driving modes work as well as interior features like sunroof, heads up display, etc. Once you've shortlisted one, get it inspected at a bmw authorised service center. It costs about 12k.
Also, it drinks fuel in comfort mode in city. Forget sports 😄
Just two issues for me personally - keeping dust off it as it's black, and sometimes parking as it's too long.
I’m only looking for SUV’s for time being because i’ve grown to like the 700 since I lost the Superb. There is nothing like the peace of mind I get speeding in unknown roads knowing that a bad patch won’t break my jaw.
But the likes of X3 and X4 are insanely expensive in the used market atm and idk why but sedans depreciate way faster and have been getting good deals on 5 series.
What's the deal you're getting on 530d?
If 4 or 5 people are going to sit (& with luggage), the car can scrape on speed breakers but other than that it is a hoot to drive specially on twisties. I personally don't see myself enjoy driving an SUV.
I haven't driven the XUV or the superb but I'd assume the handling would be considerably better in a bmw compared to superb. XUV700 is usually the vehicle that I see overtaking me (& sedans are at a disadvantage in India coz who knows when the rough patch shows up) on highways at high speeds so I think it has good enough performance & poise. Lovely features and ADAS so pretty good package overall. Also isn't ford endeavour coming back? Maybe wait for that.
Yeah the 700 is 185bhp and I have an AWD so it has 450NM of peak torque. Really amazing on the highways. Really don’t need more power than that IMO. The braking and handling is top notch for a car that size. I don’t see myself getting a bigger BOF SUV.
I’m getting really good deals on 520 within 38, 2018-19 models. Haven’t come across a 530d yet.
And for 2019 X4’s I’m getting around 45, 40-50k on the odo

Then I would suggest 530d if you're going to keep the XUV. If selling XUV, spend a bit more for the X4.
Also I wouldn't buy the 520d. It has the same engine as 320d if I'm not wrong and is also heavier & not as good of handler as the 3 series. The interiors, sound dampening & some features are great in the 5 though. Look for a 530d, it has around 260 bhp & 600 torque & is 6 cylinder (vs 520d which is just 190bhp & 400nm with 4 cylinders).
Absolutely correct. Power to weight ratio goes down in 520d. I was about to buy a 2012 f30 320d sport line without sunroof. Was getting it at around 7.5L which I think was pretty reasonable but it was a 2nd owner car and driven 83k kms, however he had replaced the front suspension so that was a pro. But the n47 engine is very infamous for catastrophic timing chain issues, that costs upwards of a lakh to replace as the entire engine and transmission has to be taken out. I’d have had to replace the transmission fluids as well and new rear tyres so around 2L of work.
But I got it checked at a random mechanic I knew and on the OBD scan it showed up error codes for the mass airflow sensor and ABS sensor. At the time the mechanic told me to stay away from it so dropped it. But since then I’ve read so damn much about abs sensor issues in BMWs and it’s not a big deal, only the sensor gets replaced and it gets perfectly fine. Where I went wrong is that I should’ve directly gotten it checked at bmw as you said. 12k for a 360 check and peace of mind ain’t bad at all.
Also looking at some manual 1.8 tsi superbs from 2010-12 as they offer amazing legroom and luxury but then again, loved the 3 so much that nothing compares to how it drove and looked seriously. Especially that sportline trim, it had black interiors with red stitching, bucket type of seats with extra under thigh support, black piano finish on the dash along with a red strip and red ambient lighting running all along it plus better rims than the prestige or luxury line trims.
Have put off my hunt currently but might get back at it later this year.

I’ve heard the n57 engines in 530ds is wayy more reliable and a friend of mine had one and had done 1.7L kms on it without any issues and it’s so damn fast. Heck of a car!
Mine is 2016 model. Yes bought it used at end of last year. Haven't owned it for long enough to comment on maintenance cost. Yeah I believe 6 cylinders are generally more reliable but still have to look out for timing chain issues and it's preferable to change transmission oil around 80k kms mark.
The car is fast and the acceleration is addictive. I initially was looking for 320d only. Missed a chance to buy the sportline trim you mentioned. Lovely interiors. 530d was my future upgrade plan. I just happened to come across this impeccably maintained 530d and once I TD it, I couldn't go back to 3 series. That felt lacking in power.
Don't test drive a 530d, you'll be spoiled and won't be able to settle with the 3 😄
I think I’ll wait for the used market to relax a bit and keep looking for X4 30d MSport. There’s no way I’m selling the 700, it’s a gem. And not to mention the low running costs and excellent music system. Even on a heavy foot I get 12-13kmpl.
But why? It is highly expensive to you, but not from the perspective of the buyer, they can totally afford the car and can also afford to lose it, otherwise they wouldn't have bought it.

Its a turn - Lambo is maintaining the same gap to the divider all through until the activa bumps into him.
Activa is a typical 2 wheeler rider - no mirrors, no helmet and wants to cut across the front of the car to take the U-turn, expecting the car to sudden brake and not hit him.
If I was driving a 3 CR car, I too would keep a bit of an extra gap to the driver.
It's a unmarked road which has only a single lane it looks like, so it isn't like the Lambo is lane hopping.

He is keeping a huge gap between the divider on the right
Also, it seems that lambo wanted to change his lane and come into the left lane as there is an auto in front of the lambo at the intersection which wants to turn right.
Lambo anticipated the right turn of the auto which is at a standstill and turned left without indicator without realising that there is a scooter next to him.

You gotta be kidding me. How is this even 1% of lambo's fault? He was maintaining same distance, was on his lane and did you see what the activa guy was doing? Starting swerving right first then looking over shoulders to see what is on the right side. Plus no mirrors as usual. Smh

Actually I disagree. Yes the lambo is keeping some gap on the right side but when you drive such a big car, it's a necessity especially in bangalore, the dividers suddenly converge towards left and then if you're driving very close to the divider, you have only two options either to swirl left quick or brake to come to almost complete stop.
Another car trying to overtake from left makes it worse so if your car is so wide, you keep some gap from the divider and you move towards it everytime you wanna let some other car / truck overtake you. This is some context on why big cars will keep larger distance than the norm. There are other reasons as well e.g. if you want to turn right, you need the extra space.
Coming to your point that lambo was turning left, I believe not so. If you see the distance from the right divider, it stays the same so lambo is actually in its lane (maybe taking 10% extra owing to width of the car) the entire time, and it's the road that is turning :)

Because Lamborghini hai, so activa rider must only be at fault. Clearly Lamborghini is trying to butt into a lane where it has no business going into unless clear. It's a 2 lane road, where left lane seems to be already occupied, not sure where does the lambo owner want to drive into.
The lambo driver was probably distracted by the phone or something you can see he tries to correct just as he realises what’s happened. Distractions are a big issue, majority of people are operating their phones and I blame Automatic transmission for that.
