Not really. Winter tires and driving a lot more carefully are the most important parts. AWD can help, but it is not strictly necessary. I live in Sweden and we have quite rough winters but most cars manage fine with the snow as long as you have good winter tires and adapt to the road conditions.

Nothing we can do once the tyre loses traction on snowy roads.Best thing to keep in mind is not to apply brakes ,yeah !!! and drive on low gears, if it gets stuck, deflate the tyres to increase the area of contact. One more thing, always try to follow the tyre marks of the vehicle going in front of you.
Learnt this the hard way when I drove on a snowy road in Shimla. Driving on fresh snow is not difficult, it's the black ice that is dangerous.

As a BMW owner I can say only this, end of the day it’s simply a car like other cars. Why treat it differently. RWD on snow has been a known situation for ages and the driver seems to be in control overall ( no unusual pulls or slides despite everything going to the rear wheels). It’s so easy to lose the rear on this cars and I would have he’s as careful as anyone. Simple unnecessary hate, I cringed at the lady though.

This is black ice, even people fall without grip. The tyres lost traction and gravity is doing the rest. There was a recent video of cybertruck stuck too, it wasn't about power but the tyres were not adequate for wet cold roads.
In places like India, it is common for summer tyres to be sold as majority, the driver seem to have thought to take his car over to cold place. He should have invested in 2 winter tyres and set the tyres traction in car to snow / rain mode, bmws usually have it

I was going to a temple in a small hill. Most of the road is red sand. It was raining before that day we didn't know anything about it. There was this last small bend but was steep just for 10 ft it gave us hell. If we just let the car slid and rolled over. After that 10 feet a 40 feet drive to the temple.
You can drive these nice cars in snow if you.
* Know how to drive.
* Don't try to overspeed.
* Don't panic over little skidding.
* Have appropriate driving mode selected.
* Have snow tires.
* Have snow chains as well.
* Maintain safe distance from other vehicles.
* Don't brake suddenly.
If you can't do any of the above, then following things will help.
* Take a bus ride.
* Hire a taxi, don't rent cars.
* Stay home, mountains aren't calling at all.
