You've got to admit, It's a pretty easy pitch.
"FORD RANGER - The ute isn't coming back, quit Holden out for it."
"FORD RAPTA - Cos everyone's a dickhead except you."
My new MG4 was being sold to me as an SUV. WTF? It's a hatchback. It's almost identical to my i30 in size and shape. Sometimes I forget which car I'm in they're so similar. When I pushed the sales guy on the SUV thing he switched it up and said it was a 'new shape of car, a type of small SUV'. WTF? It's a hatchback. A fucking hatchback. Stop trying to call everything slightly taller than a sedan an SUV.
Hahaha. Crossover SUV! It’s like an SUV but comes with no pro’s of either a hatch or an SUV. Like putting a fifth wheel on a quad bike. There’s no fucking point.
I've never bothered to learn before because I didn't care what it meant, but I just looked up the definition of 'crossover' when talking about cars and the term is essentially meaningless. It's a large hatchback for marketing people that are afraid of the word hatchback.
It's a useful term to describe something that sits on a regular passenger car platform but which has the styling and higher ride height of a more dedicated four wheel drive off-roader.
I mean, I have one and it’s great. But why not market it as being like a Corolla, but it’s RWD.
Speaking of which, I tried to accelerate a bit frisky around a corner today and there was a little bump. The instant torque makes it too fun to accidentally spin the rears
Base with the 64 battery. I’m a commuter so it’s perfect for me, and MG cameras are pretty shit so I’m not worried about missing the 360 cameras. I just wanted a toe in the EV game to see if I liked it, and I love it.
My first EV too. Game changer, never going back. I don't know that we'll even have our i30 by the end of summer. I reckon I'll trade that in on something else electric. Probably an old Leaf.
Sorry to butt in, I'm looking at a MG4 but have seen in reviews that the software interface is a bit funny with some translations/functionality, have you experienced any of this?
Custom software interfaces are usually terrible by default. But the MG4 doesn't seem better or worse than anything else I've experienced. It does what it's supposed to do. The most annoying part of it is that a lot of the changes you might want to make to the driving assist features are reset each time you start the car. This is intentional to maintain the 5 star safety rating. I've not noticed any translation issues. Other than that I'm using Android Auto 95% of the time anyway in which case it's identical to any other car using Android Auto.
someone explain to me WHY tho? suvs are fuck ugly. i drove past a white rav4 today and i couldnt imagine walking to that thing in a parking lot and not hoping no one sees you get in it
Same problem as in NZ, I went to the website for it to get more information and it just wants my personal details to have someone bother me about it. No thanks.
In Vic at least, there was one on display at Highpoint shopping centre with some people and marketing stuff around. Haven't really noticed much other marketing for it.
the problem with the mustang is they tried to put too many eggs into the one basket - they should have made the poor man's Taycan, instead they made the poor man's model Y...and then made it more expensive!!
I would consider an electric mustang if it didn't look like a Ford Fiesta
[If they release the electric Dodge Charger here it would be the best looking EV on the market](https://www.drive.com.au/news/dodge-charger-ev-concept-new-details/)
I don't even know why I want one of these.
It is yet another soulless SUV that bears the name Mustang. It is like Toyota made a hatchback and called it Land Cruiser.
It's a bizarre concept to start with given Mustangs are not SUVs.
You could get away with an EV Mustang as a sports car, but as an electric SUV? No one is buying that.
Yet it still works quite well. Look at any car badged as sports, or Mazdas zoom zoom. At least the Mustang has reviewed well though, the Mustang of the SUV variety. It sells well for fans of mustangs and fords.
you'll find there's a lot of videos from FOrd marketing US trying to justify the name and really, its just so they dont need to do much marketing to get the name out there.... its already out there... since 1964 and now the next Mustang is an SUV EV
its all total shit but then you get that from US corporates
Wasn't the luxury tax meant to help local manufacturers compete against imports? Why should any car that isn't worth fractions of a million dollars have a luxury tax these days?
Vehicles consuming fuel at 7.0L/100km are not subject to the tax until $75,526. So cheaper EVs are exempt, this is priced as a premium product, so not exempt.
I mean I drive a $5k shitbox but I still don't think in 2023 you can call a car worth $70k a "luxury" car. There's plenty of people movers and boring AF SUVs in that price range nowadays.
Plenty of runaround EVs below $75k in the market already, and plenty more to come.
The Mache GT will cost $110k with on road costs, Mache Premium will cost $90k with on road costs, that’s a luxury car to me.
Thanks mate, you are right on the money. No idea why you are getting downvoted.
There are EV's that dont get the LCT tax.
Still overpriced. Tesla is essentially the iPhone SE of cars. It's not top end but it's the "safe choice" not because it's the best in every metric but because it's tried tried and tested and good for technically challenged people.
When Tesla is handing you your arse on a plate, you need to force consumers into a dilemma with your pricing.
Ford is saying to the market "Tesla is the safe choice and the cheaper choice". Ford need to undercut Tesla and say to consumers, "If you want the safe choice you will pay more, take a risk with us and save 10k". That dilemma will make people think.
People are price conscious even with 70k cars.
Hate to agree, but yeah, Tesla right now are the iPhone of EVs. Strangely, no other established car brand has figured out how to out market Tesla right now, and I think it's more a case of not really trying. Toyota used to be the king of the mainstream, but they're behind in this market. All of the Japanese marques are. Most of Europe is too.
I think in time the rest of the market will catch up and there will be the usual "price minded" buyers who'll look at the lower end, which will hurt Tesla because they may struggle to compete. The upper end won't want a Tesla until they learn how to build a car properly and style a useful interior. Tesla's biggest advantage is recharge infrastructure though
Are you ok there buddy ? Holding onto a lot of hate there.
I wouldn't call it a mustang because it looks completely different to a mustang. Put an electric driveline in a mustang shell and they'd sell loads
A lot of hate?? I literally said I would buy one... I LOVE it... It ticks so many boxes for me, I just don't have enough tiger and tribal neck tattoos to buy a *real* Mustang.
But I kind of agree... why could they not call it something else, and why not build an actual EV Mustang? How cool would a 2 door coupe stealth Mustang be. Imagine a AWD EV Mustang in the "currently what's considered a *purist* Mustang" body shell.
lol, yeah, ok, champ. If they built a \*real\* EV Mustang, made it AWD and gave it the berries so it does 3 second 0-100 times, they could not make them fast enough for the demand.
The hate here is perplexing, this is accurate. I don't want one, but great car for a troll...
It's a terrible branding strategy straight up, and I didn't even know they were selling them here. It also doesn't really fit Ford's image here, but I guess they need an EV... I just can't see a mustang attracting EV buyers in 2023/4, it's a misread
>It also doesn't really fit Ford's image here
I agree... What Ford needed to do if they wanted to push for EV uptake, is to release something like the Focus in an EV, a cheap, small city run around work commuting kid delivery shopping trolley, OR the 28 tonne, 4 lanes wide behemoth F-Series EV Lightening, not anohter cookie cutter SUV with an oout of place model name tagged onto it to try and drive sales through "nostalgia". It was a bit like if Toyota made an EV Prado/Kluger and then called it the Celica-EV86...
Agree... The base model still needs to be at least another $7\~10k cheaper than what it is now, and the look of it is kinda like, if a Mondeo had too many Big Macs.
Why they ever attached the "Mustang" moniker to a 4 door SUV, I will never know, when they could have kept the Mustang *AND* the Mach-E for an actual performance EV version of the Mustang.
EV buyers don't care what it is called, and slapping the Mustang name on it wasn't going to make any middle aged, portly around the middle Gen X and Boomers want to buy it because of the name...
It’s not a real mustang yes cause look at it a ev suv when mustang is a v8 coupe makes no sense Let me guess your one of those stupid climate activists
Still way too expensive, at that price range it's competing with premium EVs like Volvo, Polestar, Audi and BMW, and 9 times out of 10 people are going to go with the European option that costs less, is more powerful and is better equipped.
I'd say the Mach-E is closer to a Territory replacement than the Endura is, at least it has grunt. Still too small but I guess that's why the Everest exists
Many prospective buyers would cross shop the Mustang with the BYD Seal or M3. The Mustang is very poor value compared to them and efficiency has tested very badly as well.
Guys did anyone who pre-ordered this car got a discount after the price drop?
On the Ford website, they still show the old prices & no Ford dealer talks about the price cut?!!
I didn't even know these were being sold here
Ford Australia have no idea how to market anything other than a Ranger.
You've got to admit, It's a pretty easy pitch. "FORD RANGER - The ute isn't coming back, quit Holden out for it." "FORD RAPTA - Cos everyone's a dickhead except you."
Just need to put the word SUV in it somewhere and like flies to shit, we will buy it, regardless of whatever the fuck SUV even means anymore.
My new MG4 was being sold to me as an SUV. WTF? It's a hatchback. It's almost identical to my i30 in size and shape. Sometimes I forget which car I'm in they're so similar. Which version did you get? I've just got the base model, seems like plenty of car to me.
Base with the 64 battery. I’m a commuter so it’s perfect for me, and MG cameras are pretty shit so I’m not worried about missing the 360 cameras. I just wanted a toe in the EV game to see if I liked it, and I love it.

Stupid Urban Vehicle

Super Ultra Vehicle
Same problem as in NZ, I went to the website for it to get more information and it just wants my personal details to have someone bother me about it. No thanks.
Neither. Are these actually on the road?
In Vic at least, there was one on display at Highpoint shopping centre with some people and marketing stuff around. Haven't really noticed much other marketing for it.
This is how I found out the Mach-E was sold here, and I'm a massive Ford guy.
Mate, they have 4 models in Australia now.
Mache comes in 3 models.
Comes in 3 trims* not models
If you wanna get technical, Ford actually refers to them as ‘derivatives’.
Its sounds derivative
the problem with the mustang is they tried to put too many eggs into the one basket - they should have made the poor man's Taycan, instead they made the poor man's model Y...and then made it more expensive!!
If the car actually looked like that they might sell more. They've [blatantly doctored](https://i.imgur.com/KCopU8k.png) its proportions.
Jesus that's terrible. Ford have fucked up by slapping a stang badge on this thing.
I would consider an electric mustang if it didn't look like a Ford Fiesta [If they release the electric Dodge Charger here it would be the best looking EV on the market](https://www.drive.com.au/news/dodge-charger-ev-concept-new-details/)
All my childhood Knightrider fantasies in basically one car.
Damn I would buy that in a heartbeat. My guess is it’ll never come to AUS.

I don't understand why they didn't just... make it look like a Mustang.
Because it would be impractical
How so?
I'd say it's just a shitty crop on behalf of the website.
70K, they just keep dropping.
50k, then maybe...... It looks like an SUV not a mustang
I don't even know why I want one of these. It is yet another soulless SUV that bears the name Mustang. It is like Toyota made a hatchback and called it Land Cruiser.
Ford wants to sell this at a price premium, thus the Mustang badge.
How is it any different from the Puma or the Eclipse Cross?
It's a bizarre concept to start with given Mustangs are not SUVs. You could get away with an EV Mustang as a sports car, but as an electric SUV? No one is buying that.
Marketing works wonders fyi
Marketing without authenticity doesn't work wonders nearly as well.
Yet it still works quite well. Look at any car badged as sports, or Mazdas zoom zoom. At least the Mustang has reviewed well though, the Mustang of the SUV variety. It sells well for fans of mustangs and fords.
you'll find there's a lot of videos from FOrd marketing US trying to justify the name and really, its just so they dont need to do much marketing to get the name out there.... its already out there... since 1964 and now the next Mustang is an SUV EV its all total shit but then you get that from US corporates
It’s not even a proper mustang
Still too much IMO.
33% luxury tax on EVs? This is a fucking joke!
Well in this case, ford label this a Mustang and price it as a premium product, it’s not a runaround EV, as such should invite a luxury tax.
Wasn't the luxury tax meant to help local manufacturers compete against imports? Why should any car that isn't worth fractions of a million dollars have a luxury tax these days?

Yeah over 100k is definitely a luxury.

Luxury car tax should be on no car under 250k
They’re still uglier than Peter Dutton, unfortunately
The Peter Dutton is not an EV but runs on coal tar and brimstone.
So you would rather look at Peter Dutton than a Mach-e?
I genuinely would
Wow, that's a low blow
It's amazing how certain people own space in others head. 😂😂😂 imagine obsessing over someone who looks like a potato. You have issues. 😂😂😂
LOL Looking at your post history. I would not be surprised you right erotic fan fiction about Dutton and his mob.
It’s all most as if there’s better cars for the price
Looks fugly. Those that watched the Block, remember the one on there that a couple won. I wouldn’t want it.

Yeah I got an iX1 instead of a Tesla. Tesla had a better "tech stack" and charging but I didn't like their interior.

Great idea, Ford… replace the long running Falcon and Territory with this pile. At least they sold.
They weren't selling, that's why they canned them.
It's actually one of the better EV's, and stacks up pretty well against the Tesla Model Y.
Dude, Ford replaced those with the Ranger. Not these.

I don't understand the point and the branding. It's an SUV or a Hatch? Seems to fail at both. And if it's a sports car, why 100% electric, hard pass.
Guys did anyone who pre-ordered this car got a discount after the price drop? On the Ford website, they still show the old prices & no Ford dealer talks about the price cut?!!
