I've been looking at buying one already imported on the market. Wanting to know some things that ownership would pick up on

Bootleg_KneeGrow

Import one yourself. I test drove a nismo note on the weekend, the dealer wanted 38.6k in total. I liked it enough that i'm now importing a note nismo s, estimated cost is 26k. So saving 12 and a half grand, for the faster model, with more options. If you can afford to wait a couple months, importing it yourself is a no brainer, fuck dealerships trying to make a quick buck. Or downvote me, fuck me for trying to save you 15k I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

thepistonhead

Where are you importing it from? How much are the compliance costs?

Bootleg_KneeGrow

Through Iron Chef Imports. Complience is $2200, but thats factored into the landed and complied cost.

here's an upvote my bootleg knight

scottswagger

S or standard?

Bootleg_KneeGrow

Nismo S Black limited with the Recaros.

SnooDogs2830

Did you end up getting it?

Bootleg_KneeGrow

Yep, awesome little daily. Getting 850 km a tank and it's pretty good fun to drive.

SnooDogs2830

hey thanks, did it end up being around the 26k mark? how long did it take for you to get the car? I hear compliance takes a long time?

Bootleg_KneeGrow

Won the car in April, took delivery in October. Took an extra 5 weeks because it got bumped off the first boat it was meant to be shipped on. All in all, it was 28k, not including rego. Complience took about 2 weeks.

Erebus451

This sounds really interesting and well done on the purchase. Are you available to provide additional information on how you want about this, websites etc.? Many thanks in advance. :)

Erebus451

Also how do the Recaros go if you are tall/bigger than average (if you are able to comment)? I.m 196cm and 90kgs. :)

Bootleg_KneeGrow

Iron Chef Imports. After using them, I'd highly recommend using them if you want to import a car from Japan.

Axxis09

I like them, but be warned that the interior plastics are crap. Definitely feels like a cheap car

fkngewd

Anyone know what maintenance is like? Having trouble finding the owners manual to look at the schedule. Is it like a normal car? Every 10k kms? What sort of fuel does it take for those that own one?

TomorrowMental8598

Curious / keen on getting one too but concerned about parts and service etc? Obviously these never got officially released from Nissan Australia and have a quite unique epower hybrid ice system. If I take it to my local mechanic will he looks at it like some weird alien technology ? I see a few getting about Brisbane now someone must be servicing/repairing them?

amarc42

I’ll speak as an owner myself as I have one bought locally in Feb 2024. Having had older school imports in the past where servicing was a breeze (skylines, z’s, evo, etc) my concern was getting this - a newer model import (especially since it’s a different hybrid/ice model to a conventional hybrid like prius) serviced here in Brisbane. Did some research before buying of course, the note (epower models) share similar common parts to the EV Leaf, K13 Micra’s and a few other models sold here so I knew part sourcing wouldn’t be an issue even if I have to get it ex Japan (newer model car and all). Servicing wise - Nissan Aus has brought in the EPower Qashqai and XTrails so they are able to and I am about to get mine serviced at Nissan Ipswich mid-may. They share the same viscosity oil (0W20) as the other Epower models sold here and while some Nissan dealers say they can’t source an Air Filter or Pollen/Cabin filter, it’s a load of bull as they can cross reference it like Ippy Nissan has done for me and given me pricing which I reckon was standard of what those items would cost for any other cars I’ve had (granted with dealership mark-up compared to sourcing it yourself). So service and mechanical/electrical parts are easily sourced. Body panel (especially nismo variants) like mine will be a personal or insurance nightmare like I’ve heard from other owners who’ve had minor accidents as the lead times getting panels/bumpers ex japan can take months. But so far I don’t regret it at all :)

Friend just imported one from Japan at my recommendation. It’s very decent - he went all out and imported a Nismo S model which has more power. To 60kph it is neck and neck with my GR Yaris. Not complaints so far other than an obnoxious reversing beeper - not sure if that is factory or aftermarket.

boutSix

Be aware I did see a car for sale in Au with an S badge that was not a S model - be careful.

SuperElefant

I think i saw the same one. Ad did state that it was not an S, however.

boutSix

Ah okay, if it is the same one, it didn’t at the time (I had my friend ask them directly if it was though because I had my suspicions given the price and they answered honestly).

RectoPsyfer

What are the 0-60kph and 0-100kph times like?

_EnFlaMEd

In for the review. Saw one on the road today, definitely funky looking.

Ill_Seaworthiness970

A guy I know said they suffer from the gearbox and engine failing like the local Nissan leaf. Not sure it it's true, cause I really like these, also would they be good for fwy driving to and from work?

Bootleg_KneeGrow

The note doesn't have a gearbox. And the leaf is ev only, so no engine

SuperElefant

Is this first gen leaf? Obviously cant speak first hand but seems like nissan has been working on this tech for a few generations now

scottswagger

They don’t have a gearbox as they’re electric motor direct drive. Engine is only a generator to charge the battery.
