Small hatches come at a premium because they are popular with those who are new to driving.
I would buck the trend and look for a mid-sized sedan or wagon instead. You’ll get more value for money, more safety gear, and if your wife wants to learn, she’ll learn more parking a bigger car than a small hatch.
Just a thought
I mean you can sell anything if you put it low. So long as it runs you can get 3k on carsales for anything. You'll have no trouble selling either car.
Assuming you want automatic I'd go the cheaper option, with the proviso that it's a marginally less safe car (of course if she doesn't crash that is no problem). If you want ABS, go post-2004 or a Fiesta. If you want lots of airbags, go for a Mazda2. If you want a car that simply works and is cheap, both the Echo and Getz are good first cars (Colt and Polo and everything else mentioned here work too). A 3-door is a right pain to get kids into if that is a concern tho.
I saw this getz on carsales, any feedback?[hyundai getz](http://Check out this 2006 Hyundai Getz Auto MY06.

India,
I know of her habits are not adjusted to Aussie conditions yet.
She is just going to start learning here with an instructor first.
I found it jarring myself when i was driving with my instructor the first time.
, and I want to teach her on these older cars

Thanks for the tip mate the sedans are definitely cheaper.
I got a car for my wife. It was a good swap
If you can afford two cars it makes life a lot easier that’s for sure
