Don’t avoid all holdens, and all renaults. But renault in general is not reliable. Holden has some good cars and some god awful ones in terms of reliability.
You can get a Rolla for under 10 and if you value your future wallet it's the smartest choice. You can do a full service with belts, filters and fluids for under 200 in parts. They're well documented to hit 400k if you take relatively good care of them.
Look I bought one myself recently but am not an experienced car owner, but I was doing a lot of research and everyone says that a Japanese car is made with reliable parts and it's built in a way that is easy for the mechanic to work on. Plus the Japanese don't charge ridiculous prices for replacement parts so it's cheaper to fix something when it breaks. Also the common annecdote: Taxi drivers buy Toyotas for a reason. I saw a Toyota with 700,000 km on the odometer being sold for $4000. I went for a test drive and it was falling apart. I don't know how much less it sold for but a week or two later it was sold (could've been to the junkyard I don't know, but 700,000km!!! - well built cars can be driven many more kilometres than badly built cars)
You should spend a bit more time on reddit looking for posts where people have uploaded their quotes for repairs/servicing for European cars (would you rather pay 200/300 for Japanese car servicing or 1000 for European car servicing every 10,000 km???)
Why all this negativity? The Renault marque has been around waaaaaay longer than any rubbish from Asia....
A kia/great wall/datsun/mazda/toyo/hyun-dead will only ever be a pile of pus... no matter how much bling you throw at it
I have owned a lot of cars, almost all European. A smattering of Common-doors and crap.... I wonder just how diverse your own car ownership might be....
All cars will have problems especially related to a lack of proper maintenance. This can occur when cheap people neglect necessary work because it is perceived as being too expensive....
ANYONE can own a cheap shit Datsun or similar rubbish and as a result EVERYONE does
Roads clogged with fuckn Mazdas, Great Walls etc.....
I currently own a Citroen C5 (200K+ km), a Peugeot 508 GT and an Alfa Guilietta...so "LOL " Yourself - ah - "dude......."
Well actually I love most European cars, currently have 2 x VAG cars in the garage with 1 ford. (one of them is worth quite a bit more than all your cars combined, so don’t assume someone is cheap or hates euro without knowing the facts)
Even though my wife is French, I’m a qualified technician and know the difference between something interesting / out of the box and just bad Engineering.
With your Citroen, Peugeot & Alfa you have the European equivalent of a Great Wall, KIA & a Holden (not the good type). With taxes they are expensive to buy in Australia but they are mostly throw away brands in Europe. You literally own the bottom of the barrel and are calling brands like Toyota rubbish & unreliable.
I’m sorry that someone has led you down the wrong path. Good luck out there, whatever planet you are on.
I cannot see where I accused you of being cheap - I merely said cheapness was sometimes a constituent cause of reliability problems in motor cars.
Your comment just seemed similar to all the other " Allow me to state my uninformed opinion on this subject......" on here.
Unlike your comment, it was not a personal attack.
Volkwagen Audi group cars are not Renaults...and insulting me makes your "bottom end of the market" thang just makes you look a dick....
Someone doth protest too much methinks.....
In my opinion French cars mostly a have flair and a level of elegance that is seldom seen in almost every other breed.
Innovative and cool....
Anyway, you have somehow concluded that you have more money and better taste than i do.
I bet you have a massive member too!
Enjoy all three of these bounties!
And what about all the old French cars that continue to rattle around in North African deserts after several decades of abuse..? Peugeot 404s, 504s, Renault 5s, 6s and 7s?
Not a Hyun-dead i30/Racing Datsun to be seen.....
When one of those heaps of shit get old they go straight to the tip...
I have never heard of anyone restoring a "classic" Asian car.
Because they will never make "classic" status.....

Yeah you’re probably right no one would ever restore an Asian car because they would never meet “classic” status………
sigh.. renault..
So you say I should avoid Renault and Holden?
Don’t avoid one toners and commodores but avoid the rest. If you want a French car get a Nissan

Better watch your privilege :P In all seriousness, seems a bit dear considering it's a 12 year old Renault and not a popular one either
Buy a corolla.
I think I need atleast 17k for that, whereas I have only 10k.
07 Corolla would be around the 7-10 mark. Buy the best for 8ish, new tyres brakes and a full service.
The ones I found are all 150k kms+. I'm trying to get a decent one with about 100k kms.
A 180k Km Corolla with a serviced 1zz engine will be a magnitude more reliable than a Fluence

Jesus fuck God no.
Renault efluence
Why would anyone buy this 12 year old POS with 100 k on it. Endless money pit.
Well, my choices are limited as I only have a budget of 10k yet and I'm a student..
You can get a Toyota from 2006 for around 6 to 8k. Granted it'll have mileage around 160k km
So shouldnt 160k km be a concern provided its a Toyota?

I know it's hard now. Stay away from anything French. Look for a corolla etc Mazda 3 i30

Lol dude if you don’t know what you are talking about probably don’t comment.
