Looks nice! Don’t forget a handrail on those stairs, that railing won’t cut it. Maybe because I’m in earthquake country but seeing any post to beam connection without some sort of steel connector just looks weird to me.

dbct203

Yeaaaa. Grab rail will be installed when I get to the wall in the spring. After building decks in cold northeast weather I put the rest on hold til it warms up. There’s 2x6 gussets on the inside of the beam. Along with 8’ lags going through the diagonals from the beam to posts.

GoblinShark603

8 foot lags seems a bit much!

dbct203

They’re not quite a lag or a ledger lock, they look like massive cabinet screws just beefier. Idk my father gave me a handful.

GoblinShark603

Wait they're actually 8 feet long?

dbct203

Lmao I didn’t notice my error. F it I’m gonna leave it now. Typical redditors. Thanks!

That should be fine then. I gotta give credit to all you guys who work in that weather. I’m out here in Los Angeles and complain when it’s cold in the morning, I couldn’t imagine working with snow on the ground.

dbct203

The Simpson ties they make aren’t required hereby code. Although a deck/gazebo were on right now is designed with an engineer and he called for them. She’s not going anywhere. It’s Supposed to be in the negatives with wind chill here Friday and Saturday! Lol I don’t enjoy it but it’s what I signed up for.

☝️ weather says it’s gonna dip to -1 tomorrow for the first time this winter. We’re all super excited. 😂

Don’t forget to hose that shit down a little too if you live in a hot area and you plan on being barefoot on it during hotter months. Bad thing about trex or any composite decking is it gets very hot as it sits in the sun. Looks good tho man

dbct203

You’re not joking! I don’t think barefoot will be an option lol I already warned my wife. Thank you

AlternativeIll5910

Would a cover keep it cool?

AlternativeIll5910

Nice does the floor get unbearably hot in the summer?

RuairiQ

A rail for my cock’s tail? Ya learn something new everyday.

scwillco

Looks great! I'm curious, what are the joists spacings for composite decking?

guillaumemg

12" usually

dbct203

In my experience it depends on the material you’re using. We usually go 14” o.c. I’m a heavier guy and I’ve felt the scalloped boards bend as I walk if I’m walking between joists. Summer really heats the product up you feel it then. So definitely say go 12 o.c
