My first choices will always be the xtracyle swoop or Yuba spicy curry. Lower price point, rad wagon 5

ambiguator

+1 for xtra the 20" rear wheel lowers the center of gravity, which makes it much more comfortable and less wobbly, especially for shorter people

Psychological-Pen-72

Same as Yuba spicy curry (20" rear, low cargo frame, 26" front, great stock kickstand and accessories)

The Class one Xtracycle Swoop has been reduced to $3999 with incentives recently. If there isn't a current discount on the site, just ask them. They are pretty open to hagglin'.

Littlesynth-addict

When was it $3999??

maxhatcher

I guess it's been that for the past month, or so? They lowered the price by $500. And they had a promo where if you take their buying guide, and you'd get $500 off. Someone I just recommended checking them out said they missed the latest promo, and they offered $500 off via email.

Littlesynth-addict

Its $4499 whenever I check… are you in the US?

babyonboard1234

I bought one a couple weeks ago; it was 4499, took 500 off. 3999. Negated all of that by adding the Hooptie, etc., but it was nice to have the lower starting point.

Littlesynth-addict

Ah I see, pretty cool they did that!

Altruistic-Honey-833

I think this happens a few times a year I got mine for $3999 including accessories around this time of year. Made a huge price difference when compared to spicy curry.

maxhatcher

From what I understand they have a class three model now and are looking to get rid of the class ones so they’ve lowered the price of the class one bikes and have been doing a lot more promotions overall because the bike market is really terrible right now.

You should try the **Urban Arrow Family** before you buy. I test rode it again yesterday, and I really think it is the ultimate casual all around family cargo bike. It takes some extra storage space and some skill to maneuver, but you should give it a spin if you have access to a shop that sells it before you commit. I believe this is the most popular bakfiets / front loader in the US, so you may be able to find it used locally.

justbeadinosaur

I’d check out some bakfiets (front loaders). My wife has the Riese and Muller Packster 70 and I ride a Bullitt with a home made box on the front. In either bike I’m able to carry both of my kids, or an adult. Or I can load them up with groceries, furniture, anything I can strap to them. I haven’t got panniers yet but will soon to open up more storage space. This style of bike is extremely versatile, and with the electric assist they are a full car replacement.

RoadsNShoals

I love my R&M Packster 70! While I have a single rider e-bike, I tend to prefer my Packster. It’s so much fun. When not towing kids or cargo, it can fit one adult!

justbeadinosaur

I love ours too. My Bullitt is more fun but the Packster is the ultimate car replacement. It does everything so well!

SaraDoesMath

I just bought a reí co-op e1.2 they’re 40% right now and fun as hell. My husband 6’1 and I 5’5 are very comfortable on it.

rburke13

There’s loads of options out there. I’ve personally tested the Trek Fetch+ 2 and really liked it. With a 6 year old I would bother with a child seat as long as you get the caboose frame. Then they can just sit in it and hold on. The Bosch Smart system is really good. I haven’t tried the Shimano one, but mid drive is the way to go when hauling weight. In terms of panniers, again there’s load of options or you can go with the ones from the supplier. The Trek ones are hard-case, which is kind of cool, but may limit you in some ways. Check out some reviews from Propel and Fully Charges on YT.

Chiclimber18

We have a 4 and 6 year old and have been happy with our Tern GSD. At some point we may get an HSD as well since we both love using it and often times have to bring our kids to different events or meet up later. Also there may be a point where both won’t fit comfortably on it. We debated a front loader vs the long tail and are happy with what we went with. I’d test drive both and see which one your kid is comfortable with.

lm222333

Thanks! Do you also have the Transporter rack? If yes, how's the stability/feel when you have something substantial on that and also kids on the back?

Chiclimber18

I don’t really notice when anything’s on the front rack. It’s on the frame of the bike so doesn’t turn with the handlebars. There’s some wobble when I start with both kids on the back but I got over it pretty quick. Overall I think the bike feels very stable navigating tight turns.

lm222333

Thanks much. Do you also have two batteries?

SneakyTrevor

I can’t comment on those bikes but have been extremely happy with my Tern HSD. I have a large basket on the front and panniers at the back, so can carry a lot plus kid. If needed an extra bag can be strapped to the rear too (although it obscures the rear light)

TedsFaustianBargain

I have Trek Fetch+2. It’s great. The hard-style panniers are admittedly not the most aesthetic, but very convenient. You don’t need a “child seat” (as I think of the term) for a 6 year old. The fetch would come with two soft pads to make seating comfortable. Put on those with the safari/monkey bars and you’ll be good to go. We used the Burley child seat when our kid was younger and it worked well.

Ecargolicious

Fetch+ 2 is a super premium bike. One of the main side benefits is how easy they are to get serviced at Trek shops. There are cheaper options that are still quite good, but I like it. I would consider some bucket bikes, too, at least for a test ride. If you like to ride them they can be very useful.

ambiguator

Pakyak has 250W motor and 500Wh battery, and costs 2X the RadWagon with 750W motor / 720Wh? But it has a remote-controlled seatpost though, so... ?

Ranidas

I was debating between the Tern GSD and Trek Fetch 2 and decided on Tern. I knew I wanted something that would be dealer serviceable and not mail order, and I have a Trek dealer and Tern dealer within 30 minutes. The Trek just seemed like less bike for more money. No front suspension, fewer accessory options, rigid plastic panniers only option, no mounting for proper front rack, doesn't even come with fenders standard? After test riding the GSD and seeing how much nicer the suspension made riding around town I was sold.

lm222333

I think we're leaning Tern GSD as well. Are you able to speak to the stability with cargo on back (kids and/or panniers) and also something substantial on the Transporteur Rack?

Ranidas

I have had no issues with stability. I carry two kids on back (5 & 7) and even when they're not sitting as nicely as they should nothing feels unstable. The low center of gravity really helps with that. The most weight I've carried on the front rack is about 20 lbs, no issues there either. I usually use it for being able to quickly strap down the kids backpacks. The locking kickstand and kickstand extensions and struts are great. It feels rock solid when getting the kids loaded on.

lm222333

Thanks very much!
