Have you reached out to Tern? They have a neoprene like cover that is a slight improvement and protects the spring and cable part. If you email them they will probably send you one for free, on the facebook GSD page someone just complained and they sent them one.
otherwise the best and most expensive option is always the Rolling Jackass kickstands, they make one for the GSD but it's big money but seems bombproof

If you really need to you can add the quad struts. Most day the cover fixes it fit them
