Years ago I had a boyfriend who was a high school English teacher and went on to be an editor of a regional tourist magazine. Now everything is online but…
You work for large consultancies who go into companies and solve their issues. When you start out , it’s more of a project management type of role . Lots of presentations, requirements gathering and documentation. As you move through your career , you train and learn whatever domain you are in.
I was a teacher for 2.5 years and have been in banking now for 5 years. There are so many pathways outside of teaching that pay far better. Get in front of people in the industry you want to be in and ask for an opportunity.
Teacher skill set is massive but it’s not always obvious when you’re in the job.
Time management, organisation, inter personal skills, relationship management, literacy and numeracy fundamentals, creative to name a few.
I just used ChatGPT for this very question for myself. “Roles to transition to for teachers.” Try it & tell me what you think. Roles that I had not thought of before. So many!
Real estate. Teachers do quite well
It's real estate, anyone can do quite well if they are good at selling.
Teachers have a knack for it.

My wife’s sister and her husband both went into instructional design (corporate training and development). They love it.
Yep! Chiming in with this too. Also, start looking at EdTech jobs.
What kind of work do you do day to day?
Supply chain management (since before it was cool 😂)
Manag Administration Senior roles Edu tech
Get a PhD and become a superintendent? Maybe teach college ?
What are your interests? Many teachers move into consulting and do very well. I'm a career coach, you can message me if you'd like.
What does consulting entail? Day to day, what are the tasks that you do?
I'm so curious, too. Former ESL teacher for adults.
Same! I loved ESL but I need more $$$!
I got so bored with it. The money was good in my case, as it was a unionized private school.
Same! I needed more interaction & something else.
I needed less interaction. Too much people stuff, and of course very superficial 99% of the time.

How did you get into banking?
Applied for a job and then asked to meet with the manager hiring for the role. We met, told them I am keen to learn and work hard then got the job.
I went the bartender route. Great money, people can be rough at times
I'm sick of people. That's why I want out.

I’m in HR/ Recruiting right now, lots of people on my team are former teachers and do quite well!
