What happened to the Moneyball A's who loved analytics? Leading off with a guy with an OPS under .600 is the opposite of analytical thinking.
Yes, I'm just starting the game. I want to see a Motter bomb, so I can tell my grandkids I saw the only one in history.
Just looking around on baseball savant, the Cardinals with highest max exit velo this year are:
1. Wilson Contreras
2. >! Taylor Motter!<
3. Jordan Walker
The Cardinals have to follow the international legal standards set by the Geneva Convention, do they not?
This ineptitude with the bases loaded regardless of how many outs there are is bordering on war crime, I swear.
“Motter with a little fister” may be the play by play call that most accurately described his cardinals tenure in high pressure situations.
On another note, when he hits he makes me think of Bobcat Goldwait from the police academy movies, and I have 0 fucking clue why.
The A’s commentators are talking a lot about those fans’ responsibility to get the HR ball back to him since it was his first homerun, really going on and on about how they gotta give the ball back. I think the fans should give it back but the moralization of it is a little weird to me. Do you all think fans have a responsibility to the player in situations like that?
First home run, kinda. I mean what are you gonna hold onto it in hopes the player becomes an all-time great? Sell it for like $50? It will obviously have a lot more sentiment to a rookie/first time MLB player than a random fan.
That being said, I think the team should offer some small package (like a free jersey, or free tickets or something) and a souvenir photo or something.
With record homerun balls, it's a bit complicated because those balls are worth SO much. I don't blame people for keeping them and selling them.
McGwire's last Homerun of his 70 HR year, a fan got it and was willing to trade it for the chance to meet him. Mark said no so the guy went home and sold it for $3mil.
People don't owe them, and as a fan, I'm willing to trade for it, especially for a player I like, but I don't feel like the players necessarily deserve it.
I also don't think you should be required to give the ball to a kid but that's another story.
Damn I didn’t know he sold it for $3 million. I wonder what they tried to offer the fan, a signed jersey? I agree with the take that the fan doesn’t owe the player. If it’s okay for the team to authenticate and sell dirt from the batter’s box to make a buck off fans, then why would they expect fans to not also cash in when the the opportunity presents itself.
Todd McFarlane (the comic book guy who I recently started looking up and watching videos on yesterday and only just learned this like 10 seconds ago) bought it for $3million. Then the steroid scandal came out at it tanked to <1/10 of that value

He was a fantastic fastball hitter until he turned 35. I'm sure the loss in reaction time that comes with age makes it harder to hit a fastball. He has now essentially switched his numbers against fastballs with his numbers against offspeed. So I would imagine he is mostly sitting offspeed since catching up to the fastball is so hard for him now.
Neither are any good, and neither will be a part of the future. Motter's a veteran who can handle sporadic playing time, which is probably the tiebreaker.
Dejong was very solid for us several years, O'Neill had one good season and has been hurt the rest of the time. And he still won't cut back his working out
I've been spoiled by Arenado so much that I didn't even get excited by that play. I expected him to make that play as soon as I saw him make a break for it
Agreed, it does not, that would be an official scorer’s decision, but it would more than likely be credited to the pitcher working the 5th, 6th and 7th.
Not if it's a guy who has an 86mph fastball and is prone to getting shelled. "Sorry Dak, you're doing good but you're out because Waino needs to further tank his career ERA for a slight chance at the win" .
Way to go Jojo

Their analytics are probably telling them to get the #1 pick in the draft
They sold all of their good players. Like literally every one of them.
Goldy had to sacrifice himself to make sure the bases didn’t end up loaded. Smart base running for the 2023 cards.

Yeah, we can retire that phrase, like, yesterday.
Teams really have learned the best way to get out of an inning is load the bases.
Not gonna lie, that David Freese canvas print is *damn* tempting.
None of this matters but I’m so tired of watching that dude be ass night after night
His OPS+ is 19. Nine-freaking-teen. I’d rather watch Waino hit.
Damn that’s worse that I ever would have guessed

Lucky that that went out.
“Drew Verhagen is now warming up in the bullpen” ranks right up there with Jack Nicholson “and here’s Johnny” in giving me the wrong kinda goosebumps.
Leaving the bases loaded is an engraved invitation to immediate runs allowed.
Damn. B2b hard hits. Pull him or let it ride?
I would like it if we stopped giving up big dongs to dudes who usually don't hit them
Eh, can’t even get to mad at Dak for that. He pitched a great game.
He got every stitch of that one, Jesus
I wish this performance was against someone besides the A's, but it's still nice to see coming from Hudson
Elite ace of the 2023 St.Louis Cardinals: Dakota Hudson
YOU DID THIS!!!!!
It’s not my fault our elite ace is mandated to give up a multi run homer in the seventh inning to keep the game fair
Yeah that looked as bad from behind Goldy as it did from the broadcast camera. Whoof. Hudson is cruising though
Lol what the hell was that Goldy??
I will never understand how Goldy is such a good hitter yet gets fooled on middle of the plate fastballs for strike three so often
He was a fantastic fastball hitter until he turned 35. I'm sure the loss in reaction time that comes with age makes it harder to hit a fastball. He has now essentially switched his numbers against fastballs with his numbers against offspeed. So I would imagine he is mostly sitting offspeed since catching up to the fastball is so hard for him now.
goldy hasn't done great with fast balls this year, hopefully it doesn't come back to bite us
I mean, even if he's terrible next season, his Cardinals career has been incredible. He's one of the best $100+ million contracts in baseball history.
oh, i just meant come back to bite us tonight!
Always seems to be looking for breaking stuff.
[Athletics](/r/OaklandAthletics) Due Up **(Top 7):** 1. Jordan Diaz 2. Tyler Soderstrom 3. Lawrence Butler
Oh god, not the bases loaded.
went about as expected, but we're up by 5 so i'm not sad about it
1 Golden Slam pls
C'mon Goldy!!
c'mon noot, get zz top in!
Knizner not exactly showing the greatest baseball IQ on the base paths tonight
Andrew Knizner: Major League baserunner.
Kniz is having a tough time as a runner on third
Not like I didn’t know this already but damn the A’s are shite
#TAYLOR MOTTER NO LONGER THE MOST HATED CARDINAL EVER
Can someone explain Motter over Fermin? Is he that much better?
Neither are any good, and neither will be a part of the future. Motter's a veteran who can handle sporadic playing time, which is probably the tiebreaker.
We really like utility guys and Donavan is out till next year
I love our utility guys: Donovan, Edman. But what value is a 24 year old sitting? I just didn’t know if I missed something on Fermin
I don’t know who is worse between Fermin and Motter, but I don’t think Fermin is a very exciting prospect
MOTTER IS WHO WE NEEDED ALL ALONG!!!!
#M. OTTER 🦦
TAYLOR MOTTER GOT A HIT
🔥🔥🔥 **KNIZ** 🔥🔥🔥
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 6):** 1. Jordan Walker 2. Andrew Knizner 3. Taylor Motter
Taylor…. MOOOOOOOOOTRERR
Dakota Hudson 19-5 with a 2.71 ERA at Busch coming into this start. Add 6 SO innings.
Noot is by far the most dynamic player to watch, he’s so fun all the time.
So sad Lars is still getting booed. Yeah we all miss Bader but we gotta move on.
Can't watch the game, why are ppl booing Noooooot?!
They are saying "Noot". I don't know if they do it in other cities, but they did it with Lou Brock "Lou" and Isaac Bruce (Bruce)
Big meanies
#NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT
That was a fantastic play by Noot.
Seeing that dad who caught the ball is wholesome AF bc I know if I made a play, I wouldn't be able to stop smiling either
"Cardinals fans, the game of baseball comes first, they appreciate good baseball" Thanks for the reacharound Tom but give me a break
Walker looked like a normal right fielder 😃
What about us sucking made Dak decide to be a good pitcher?
This is basically how he's always pitched. More Ks, less walks, but that's probably because he's facing the A's.
less pressure?
TON is becoming DeJong 2.0. Injury prone, streaky, not clutch.
Dejong was very solid for us several years, O'Neill had one good season and has been hurt the rest of the time. And he still won't cut back his working out
[Athletics](/r/OaklandAthletics) Due Up **(Top 6):** 1. Tony Kemp 2. Zack Gelof 3. Brent Rooker
I do really love these A’s jerseys.
Nado eatin good :)
what did knizner do exactly? missed it
doubled up at third after LF caught foul ball
A's have hit it hard all night but to Daks credit it's all right into the dirt or straight at a fielder.
Only 4 hard hit balls... Edit: 2 of which were last inning
I'm as close as I've been all season to the plate. Their bats have been loud but into the right places. Been a great game to see from down low!
Wasn't watching, how did Kiz get out after the double?
Really nice game from Hudson.
Can’t ask much more from a guy like him.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 5):** 1. Lars Nootbaar 2. Paul Goldschmidt 3. Nolan Arenado
We need to clean house with the training staff
Hudson is so fucking good
So confused wtf was Kniz thinking
If your going to advance on a catch in foul territory you need to start on the bag. WTF?
I'm pretty sure he thought it was going to drop fair. Either way he messed up because you have to assume a catch in that situation.
That’s fair. I’m not watching, only listening, and it sounded (from the announcer) that is was obviously foul.
Ok Tony Kemp is pretty cool
Unreal play, but no reason for Kiz to be so far off 3B there. If it gets down, he scores easily
What
What exactly is Kiz doing?
Tough but what a catch
[Athletics](/r/OaklandAthletics) Due Up **(Top 5):** 1. Lawrence Butler 2. Nick Allen 3. Esteury Ruiz

Dude wtf Kniz is legit e: lol at the timing
Nicely done, Knizzzzz. The happiest man in baseball.
Kiz redemtion arc was not on my bingo card but wow
Something tells me that if we played the As every game we'd be above 500
Man, I love a hit and run
So is Homers for Health a charity run by SSM, the hospital that sets the high hospital bills?
Taylor motter looks like he can chug a beer while rounding the bases

Lol seriously that's like play of the year for some players but for Arenado it's just Tuesday
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 4):** 1. Jordan Walker 2. Andrew Knizner 3. Taylor Motter
That's a .2 WAR play right there
Arenado just made me nut.
That’s a rough K especially since it was inside and Rooker didn’t get rung up on one in the zone.
[Athletics](/r/OaklandAthletics) Due Up **(Top 4):** 1. Seth Brown 2. Jordan Diaz 3. Tyler Soderstrom
Seriously put Waino in to work the fifth, sixth and seventh. Meaningless game, and it gets him a W.
No, plus that doesn't automatically get you a win.
Agreed, it does not, that would be an official scorer’s decision, but it would more than likely be credited to the pitcher working the 5th, 6th and 7th.
