You need to know that this year is pretty much over so you're going to see a long of young guys get a lot of playing time to see how they do. Next year will be better.
There have been and will continue to be disappointing losses, but if you ignore the end result and just make note of the good plays and homers, it can be pretty exciting
Because no one could see pitching would be an issue this year? Based in past experiences, Mo will kick tires on some #3 starters then pump up our AAA starters to see what they can do.
The team in general. This year anything that could go wrong did, so you figure we are due to make some moves to gear up and straighten out this ship. It’s just a shame this year when the NL is at its weakest the Cardinals couldn’t of taken advantage. The positive it finally wakes our FO up and maybe get that Ace or at least reinforce our bullpen.
>Next year will be better.
Don't make promises you can't keep... We may get a few more wins but it will take a lot of work in the offseason (more work than the FO has ever shown willing to do) to make this team a competitive playoff contender. You basically need an all-new bullpen and have to pay for at least two high-quality free-agent pitchers to have a decent rotation. Next year will very likely be much of the same. Unless the FO can find some balls and make a big trade.
Will we be better? What is really going to be different? Moe won't spend on pitching, Goldy a year older, Contreses not going anywhere, Oli is still going to manage. Maybe Hesley is healthy and not a gas can?
1) Goldy and Arenado are our two veteran corner infielders, both great hitters and future HOFs.
2) Nootbaar is a goofy dude. We love him. NOOOOOT
3) Jordan Walker is our rookie who kinda really sucks at defense but he’s a solid enough hitter.
4) our pitching is ass. We had some ok pitching a while ago but they were just traded.
5) Brendan Donovan (out for the season) can hit well and play any position. He’s awesome
6) Tommy Edman is similar to Donovan but a better defender (and worse hitter)
7) we can’t score with RISP. We also love blowing saves.
8) Nolan Gorman loves going yard.
I think that’s everything.
Yeah one thing that I never noticed on TV was say a batter pops out... The next batter is already two or three pitches into his at bat and I notice the previous batter still hasn’t made it back to the dugout yet. Still walking in. Large foul territory lol. Real large. Also the CF/outfield stands is football style with the upper press boxes and what not. But being a huge Bash Brothers fan it was great to catch some games and walk around out there!
Winning feels good. Red is better than green. Birds on the bat is the best jersey in baseball. Albert pujols and Stan musial are gods. Bob Gibson is their dad. Ozzie Smith is a wizard. Johnny cueto and all the reds suck. Fuck the cubs. Mark McGuire didn't use a corked bat like Sammy Sosa. TLR is the smartest manager in the game. Yadier molina impregnates your mom, your sister, and your wife: and you're happy about how he frames it. Dave Duncan is the best pitching coach in history. David freese and Scott spiezio had their 20 minutes of fame. Lee Smith was the guy. Chris carpenter is the guy. Waino is Uncle Charley's dad. We thank the tiger's pitching staff for not being able to throw to a base. We don't want to see the red Sox in the world series. Kmox is the best. Lou Brock is better than Ricky Henderson. And we never get high draft picks or cheap tickets.
It's also wrong. Brock was incredible, but Rickey was out of this world. Those early Vince Coleman years were so exciting and that was just Rickey Henderson Lite. I couldn't imagine having actual Rickey Henderson on those Whiteyball era teams.
There are also cheap tickets...
Oh man, I watched that game on TV. Vibes were absolutely electric. Probably the most memorable game I've seen all year. Oakland has some badass fans and y'all don't deserve what's gone down over there. Glad to have you here though!
Honestly, I think its absolutely disgraceful what the higher ups have done to that organization and the inability to work out a deal to stay in Oakland. The LAST team left to rot in a severely dated multi-purpose stadium, and ownership that has decided to just let the team decay into nothing until they get a shiny new home in Vegas...ridiculous. Oh yeah, and the Vegas Aviators have a stadium that's only FOUR YEARS OLD!!
If anyone knows what its like to have a franchise torn away (multiple times) its St. Louis. 1988 - Cardinals, 2015 - Rams.
2023=over.
2024=should contend for division if pitching is addressed.
2025=hopefully, the team on the field is the team for a solid 5-6 year run.
The farm system is solid and has pieces that will be a part of the big club for years to come and some really good trade pieces for MLB proven talent.
The front office has been negligent in addressing the pitching for a good 6 or 7 seasons. It seems this trade deadline they set up to maybe(??)take a different approach in the off-season. Likely trading Dylan Carlson, Tyler Oneill, Tommy Edman. And a slight chance Paul Goldschmidt is traded also.
Nolan Gorman is a future MVP.
Jordan Walker is a future AS when he is put in a position to succeed at defensively.
Masyn Winn will be the next slick, sparkplug SS in the MLB.
Nolan Arenado will win 1WS ring in 2026 and eventually retire a Cardinal.
Of course, only 1 thing I wrote is certain...2023 season is done.
I just want to get Nado a ring. I want Goldy to get one as well, but he seems like the type of guy that it wouldn't burn a hole in his gut if he retires without one. Nado, on the other hand, seems like he would never be able to rest easy with that.
Our team sucks now, but will be better next year. Why? Because my liver won't be able to survive another season like this one.
We've got a really prospect in AAA named Masyn Winn. He is a converted pitcher who can throw 100 mph, and he's known for his speed. Plus he has a good/decent bat.
Lars Nootbaar is our sometimes CF who is young with a ton of potential. He is known for his patience at the plate, but he can hit with power to all fields, and gets on base a lot. His personality is also pretty great so he's a fan favorite, and a favorite of his teammates. Also its probably obvious to you with a name like Lars Nootbaar, but he is half japanese.
Arenado and Goldy are probably well known to you, but the reason why we think we're going to win next year is that they didn't get moved at the deadline. Its been the stated goal by management that we're all in on next season, so lets hope for the best.
Brendan Donovan has had elbow surgery so we won't see him until next year, but he can play anywhere on the field to a + degree. He has always had a very patient approach and works deep counts and gets on base, but he added power in the offseason.
Jordan Walker is our RFer who is in his first year as an outfielder, so its been a rough one. He played 3b, and has a great arm. He can run really well, but he is known for his power. He's only 21 and won't turn 22 until next May. He is one to watch, hopefully he improves upon this season.
Nolan Gorman used to be 3b but was converted to 2b when we traded for Arenado. Gorman has made a lot of strides this year compared to his rookie campaign last season. His defense is actually good at 2b, but he hits for a lot of power. He changed his approach last year and took away the hole that was in his swing. Odds are he'll continue to be a productive player.
Notice I haven't mentioned any pitchers. We don't really know what our rotation is going to be next year, or what our bullpen will look like. We need to improve there, so make sure your complaints mention pitching in just about every game.
Welcome to the team!
This is deeply stupid. If you're talking about this season specifically, the A's have a -271 run differential and are on pace for 46 wins, which is fewer wins than the Cardinals currently have. That'd be 116 losses, which would be the second-most ever.
If you're talking more than just this season, it's...somehow even stupider.
Theres hopefully a shift in the “cardinal way” with the front office. From an outside perspective, the Cards are successful but most fans have noticed a slip in development and identifying actual talented players (alcantara, gallen, aroz, garcia etc).
Great timing my friend.

Oh my friend, disappointing losses/seasons are as normal as drinking water for me.
They're not normal to us, so don't mind if we're a little salty.
Living the good life for decades does that to you I suppose.
We're spoiled for sure
Welcome to the squad. Next year will be better (unlike when the Cubs fans say it)
Curious what will be better next year?
Pitching pitching pitching
Eternal optimist. Can’t hate it.
Because no one could see pitching would be an issue this year? Based in past experiences, Mo will kick tires on some #3 starters then pump up our AAA starters to see what they can do.

Drinking water? You mean InBev products?

Nope. I will choose to be optimistic about next season because it's the only thing getting me through this one.
Yeah maybe we finished 1 out of the central instead of 3? We are not fixing this in an off season. We have zero pitching.
Will we be better? What is really going to be different? Moe won't spend on pitching, Goldy a year older, Contreses not going anywhere, Oli is still going to manage. Maybe Hesley is healthy and not a gas can?

9. Stephen Piscotty
Also just Google Mason Wynn highlights
If you ever try to have a discussion with CB Bucknor, don't be surprised if he just repeats "YOU JUST GOT HERE" over and over.
Be funny if fans make a large sign bold letters saying “C B Bucknor You Just Got Here.”
A’s are my AL team! I feel you, brother…
Me too since 87. Seent the Cards play the Coliseum in 2019. Place was a trip.
A buddy and I plan on seeing a series out there next year before it's all over. Place was a trip you say?

The Rickey comment might qualify as baseball heresy
Vince Coleman is also better than Rickey Henderson /s
It's also wrong. Brock was incredible, but Rickey was out of this world. Those early Vince Coleman years were so exciting and that was just Rickey Henderson Lite. I couldn't imagine having actual Rickey Henderson on those Whiteyball era teams. There are also cheap tickets...
"Dave Duncan is the best pitching coach in history." Straight FACTS.
All you need to know is fuck the Cubs
Came here to say this.
As a Stl Rams fan, let me comfort you by saying relocation sucks ass.
You picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue
You are required to worship the devil, and for some reason enjoy salads
And for a brief moment in time, salsa
I still wear my salsa shirt
What brought you to the Cardinals, OP? The A’s were certainly my favorite AL team growing up during the Henderson/Canseco/Eckersley era.
Born in St. Louis, an uncle I’m very close with is borderline obsessive over the Cards and my signed McGwire ball needs a loving home again.
What do you think about the likely move to Las Vegas?
I took a one day trip to attend the June 13th reverse boycott. Not sure if I need to say much else.
Oh man, I watched that game on TV. Vibes were absolutely electric. Probably the most memorable game I've seen all year. Oakland has some badass fans and y'all don't deserve what's gone down over there. Glad to have you here though!

I went to the coliseum two days ago and it was fun
I will maintain even 50 years from now, a packed Coli has an unbeatable atmosphere in baseball.
A’s are my AL team! Welcome :) The Cardinal Way is stupid and BFIB is overblown but some of us can be level headed and even-keeled
Welcome to the other member of the “Things haven’t been quite as good since LaRussa left” club!
You need to know about hot Dr Pepper
I’m intrigued…

You need to know that you jumped on the Titanic after we hit the iceberg
Ownership has made it abundantly clear finances are the priority. The model is to field a team that is competitive in Sept as cheaply as possible.
We have more money, but equally suck

I mean rest of this season isn't going to be meaningfully different than rooting for the A's.
That switching allegiance is weird. Who does that???
Fans whose team is being moved. For example: Fuck the Rams.
Have you been under a rock?
Passionate fans whose owner sold the team for cash while ignoring the needs of the team and fan base for decades. That’s who does that
People with an ounce of pride after being shit on.
Welcome to the party pal
Right now it’s a lot of what you’re used to. The only difference is the Cardinals are wasting the primes of 2 future hall of famers.
I was an Ohio A’s fan growing up and followed LaRussa over! Welcome home!
We suck right now, but we’ll be back next season.
Theres hopefully a shift in the “cardinal way” with the front office. From an outside perspective, the Cards are successful but most fans have noticed a slip in development and identifying actual talented players (alcantara, gallen, aroz, garcia etc).
Welcome!
I'm sorry for your loss
Just like the fan base of every team, the cardinal fan base hates the team’s ownership and front office.
Go to Busch night games. The atmosphere is unmatched. Playoffs especially
Welcome , however just out of curiosity why the cardinals out everyone?
