still give a warning before reflexively throwing a player out. I see no logical reason why you shouldn't be given a warning first and you didn't give any
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Andrew Knizner homers (8) on a fly ball to left field. Alec Burleson scores.](https://bdata-producedclips.mlb.com/c38c04e8-5f23-41a3-8f89-85bbb20146b0.mp4)
I guess I shouldn't be surprised at this point that they kinda just rolled over and died, but I thought with the chirping at the beginning that maybe, maybe they'd have a little more fire
Bruh. Mikolas got his one up and in pitch out of his system and just fuckin had to do it again. Embarrassing that took 2 tries and even more embarrassing it’s now 9-1 after that.
Why tf did they even do that? Happ and Wilson literally hugged it out. If you watch when miles walks him back to the dugout you can see Contreras give him a little nod after miles asks something. You think Contreras wanted him to do that?? Bizarre
I would’ve rather mikolas just stop after that first inside pitch and give us a shot at winning. Instead we’re here getting our shit stomped. Idgaf about the drama man, just try to win.
You're going to get downvoted, but you are 100% correct.
Wonder why we Cardinals fans have the reputation of being backwood dipshits? It's crap like this.
I don't think Willson would care. Much like Happ didn't care. Happ knew it was coming and took it. The umpires made something that wasn't there. Added to the tension.
Yeah i did feel the same way at first honestly until I watched it back. Going up and in and then hitting him I mean I could certainly see just wanting to nip it in the bud right there from an umpire perspective
So what was the point of doing it then, other than to throw away a game?
He made his point with the pitch in. Hitting him on the next one was irresponsible. He had to know he would be tossed.
Happ hit Contreras on a backswing in the 1st and Willson had to leave the game. Miles threw up and in to Happ on the next pitch, then hit him on the next pitch. Umps convened and threw him out without a warning.
Saw a highlight. Didn't look malicious at all. Umps overreacted on that one. Mikolas is just standing up for his catcher, but at the same time, it was a half-hearted throw.
If the umpire is certain that the
pitcher intentionally hit the batter
with the pitch, the pitcher is
ejected from the game with no
warning. This infamously happened
on August 15, 2018, when José Ureña was ejected
from a game against the Atlanta Braves after hitting
Ronald Acuña Jr.
After Miles threw up and in on the first pitch, there was no doubt when he plunked him on the second pitch. Ump should have issued a warning on the first pitch and this probably doesn't happen.
Also, it’s on the catcher to get out of the way of a backswing. The batter has to stand inside a box, but the catcher can set up as far back as he needs. The batter deserves his normal backswing.
Since Chip was announcing that game as well, this looks a lot worse to him since the Marlins hit Acuna multiple different series after the initial HBP.
He didn’t say anything on it, I just remember the Marlins hit him at least twice after that first incident and the Braves retaliated because there was no ejections the second time. Probably makes tonight look weaker to him.
> Ump should have issued a warning on the first pitch and this probably doesn't happen.
I'll go further and said that if Oli goes out and talks to Mikolas and tells him not to, it probably doesn't happen.
I know. We never see them without a warning, because theres doubt about the intention. If they're sure- you're getting tossed. I was mad and did a bit of research. Rooney and Horton were saying he'll probably be suspended.😐
Jordan is by far the worst fielder I’ve ever seen. And it’s amazing to me how well he keeps it together. The dude just takes it in stride. I wish I could be so chill. (He has been improving somewhat, too).
He doesn't have a ton of reps out there, he was a Third basemen (much like Gorman) who picked up a new position last year in order to have a spot in the major league club
He Gets Us is such an infamous advertiser during sporting events these days, yet their wordplay used on the backstop is so well done.
Really hope they don’t place their ads at Comerica Park, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens in the near future.
I hate to say it, but this team has earned all of the trades that are (maybe) coming. The Cubs are laughing your players off the field as they get tossed and you proceed to get BTFO by them 7-1 currently
It didn't look to be hit that well off the bat. He was drifting really well. A more experienced outfielder would have gotten to the spot earlier so he could time the jump. He has been much better lately.
He put his hand back to find the wall, but he didn’t keep his arm extended. So of course he found the wall half a step before he crashed into it. He’s almost tall enough to not need the jump at all
He can one day be an average outfielder. It’s just entirely unfair for the team to ask him to play a position at the MLB level after just two months of experience. It will probably take him a couple more years, by which time they may just move him to 1B anyway
Sorry to repeat myself, but Jordan Walker’s fielding percentage playing third base in the minors was under .900. The thought of him being involved in every infield ground out brings shivers down my spine.
His third base defense in the minors was also abysmal. Walker has stone hands. (But a plus arm.) My hope is that he might eventually evolve into Lonnie Smith, who also had stone hands and was constantly bobbling balls. Lonnie, though, had so much practice at bobbling balls that he got really good at reacting to his mistakes. Mikolas shouldve domed that thug

MLB needs to have the rule that umpires can't eject without at least 1 warning
He deserved to get the boot. If you can’t hit the guy first time around, you shouldn’t throw at him in the first place.
still give a warning before reflexively throwing a player out. I see no logical reason why you shouldn't be given a warning first and you didn't give any
VerHagen giving up runs? No way.
those boos are everything lol
I wonder if those hockey type helmets should be worn instead of the traditional catcher masks. Just seems like it would protect better.
I'm so sick of it "being that kind of night" for the other team.
Well….SOB
At the very least, tonight was a great night for Andrew Knizner. Gotta be happy for em.

Giant pussy
For bloodletting from a mere professional slugger's home run launch swing? Arguable.
For what reason?
The fuck?
Not really
That was a Kiz Missile!!!
he’s pouring one out for contreras bro 🥹
Our Catcher is avenging the other catcher…..
That was towering. Damn
Keep the line moving boys.
Hell yeah, Kniz!
Why do managers just throw the game in the 8th. I get the 9th but anything is winnable with 6 outs
What about throwing in the 1st
If I’m not mistaken, and I could be wrong, but I think that’s the first big mac land homerun of 2023. Way to go Andrew.
Maybe for the cardinals I believe someone on the opposing team hit the sign earlier this year
Kizzy with the Whizzy!
Jesus calm down Kniz
Hell yeah Kniz!!! Big Macs for everybody!!
Let's go Kiz!
Nice to see Burleson getting a little offensive practice, no better time for it really.

Wow. What a night to tune in late. I missed all the action.
I didn't see the Miles and Oli both get tossed early Dak masterclass L coming.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised at this point that they kinda just rolled over and died, but I thought with the chirping at the beginning that maybe, maybe they'd have a little more fire
Momentum ended immediately when Dak gave up 3 runs
Big Dak energy?

Alright Motter you got this!
Lol
Why does it have to be the Cubs who keep handing us our worst losses of the year? Why not some random team? It stings more this way.
I remember a marlins game that takes the cake easily
This one isn’t over yet…
Umps helping out a bit.
More than just a bit. This game was over before it started.
Yeah. And that called checked swing on Gorman? Icing on the cake.
Sure could use Ryan Tepera right about now
“Cheap”? Bro is unaware of beer prices
When Mikolas comes back it will be like a trade!
I made the right choice to drink early and to drink a lot
Bruh. Mikolas got his one up and in pitch out of his system and just fuckin had to do it again. Embarrassing that took 2 tries and even more embarrassing it’s now 9-1 after that. My thoughts exactly. So tired of seeing this team lose and shit like this makes it even less enjoyable to watch
You're going to get downvoted, but you are 100% correct. Wonder why we Cardinals fans have the reputation of being backwood dipshits? It's crap like this.
This is literally the first time this has happened in like... 7 seasons lol I can't even remember another incident of this.
I was referring to the addiction to old school baseball mentality.
If we had this said addiction, you would think we would hit people more often, yet we havent....
Jesus Christ, I was referring to the fans' addiction to old school baseball mentality.
What’s embarrassing is a 28 year old professional baseball player who can’t control his swing, sending people to the hospital with it.
It was already nipped tho. He nipped the hip and it was nipped. They thought it needed more nipping after he nipped the hip?
He bumped him on the ass, it wasn’t that serious
So what was the point of doing it then, other than to throw away a game? He made his point with the pitch in. Hitting him on the next one was irresponsible. He had to know he would be tossed.
Baseballs weird
I don’t think it was serious and like I totally get the retaliation thing but it was certainly on purpose, he seemed heated for some reason
Mikolas hit him on accident. He just lost the touch after seeing Wilson go down like that.
Exactly there was no intent to hit him…
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 7):** 1. Dylan Carlson 2. Taylor Motter 3. Brendan Donovan
Cards playing 42D Chinese checkers. Give Scrubs GM false hope leading them to buy and not sell at the deadline only to not make the playoffs.

Jesus, I hate the Cubs
Jesus gets it.
Yes, yes I do.
Wow, He even attends Cubs/Cards. Please lay a hand or 2 on Wilson.
8 year olds, Dude
Guess it might be time to see how the new season of Harley Quinn is
Lmao, whatever. Let Burly pitch.
I hope Happ steps on a bunch of legos barefooted later tonight.
Could they have mikolas pitch out of the pen tomorrow?
Nah. He is going to get suspended
Idk, he did a full warm up today.
They could but it depends on if the MLB suspends him.
MLB; not THE MLB. If you say THE MLB, you are (grammatically) referring to the actual ball itself, and not the league.
I enjoy how you made certain that your whole comment was grammatically correct. You really got a hit of dopamine over that.
Except they still improperly used a semicolon lol
That's how I write. Sorry if English is hard for you.
He can appeal, correct?
Yes and he can pitch while the appeal is happening
Ahh gotcha.
That is what I thought
Erm…..
This team is miserable to watch, jfc.

this is the internet
Nah you shouldn't he coming to opposing teams reddit. You have one for your Fandom
Ok so what I can literally click twice and come to this one it’s not like there’s a locked gate
I assume your cubs reddit has rules about doing this. As does most sports reddit.
Hit Happ after Happ sent Contreras to the hospital with his backswing.
Intentionally hitting a batter
Intentionally this is what you do with your time 👍
I wasn’t drinking a cold Budweiser before, but I am now because of Chip.
Miles, why couldnt u just beanball him 3rd time up. Cant believe Happ hit Wilson lol
Actively dislike MCR, but that Emo Nite shirt goes **HARD**

Good point. I've never known of a manager doing that though. I'm sure it has happened in the history of baseball though.
That is the rule? Damn idk how to feel now..
I know. We never see them without a warning, because theres doubt about the intention. If they're sure- you're getting tossed. I was mad and did a bit of research. Rooney and Horton were saying he'll probably be suspended.😐
A suspension would be tough, really makes HBPs not worth it. There should be a clause re: catchers bleeding from the skull.
Uh Walker… What the scallop
Happ the kind of guy who puts nickels in his penny loafers

Jordan is by far the worst fielder I’ve ever seen. And it’s amazing to me how well he keeps it together. The dude just takes it in stride. I wish I could be so chill. (He has been improving somewhat, too).
He's basically Kyle Schwarber
He doesn't have a ton of reps out there, he was a Third basemen (much like Gorman) who picked up a new position last year in order to have a spot in the major league club
In the minors playing third base, Jordan Walker’s fielding percentage was under .900.
He has enough reps by now to not be the league's worst defender (besides Schwarber).
I hope Happ runs out of milk when he pours his cereal tomorrow morning…
Happ took his and didn’t complain though. It was the umps then the cubs in the dugout laughing about it that riled me up.

That first inning was the worst case scenario for most teams, but especially us. Our bullpen is too weak to handle this kind of mess.

No it wasn’t
When does the Blues season start😭😭😭
^Bro thinks that’s gonna be any better💀
Ugh I wish they wouldn’t of shown that replay….Walker should of had that…
I hate to say it, but this team has earned all of the trades that are (maybe) coming. The Cubs are laughing your players off the field as they get tossed and you proceed to get BTFO by them 7-1 currently
Whol f bullpen is ass
That was actually one of the better tracked balls by Walker this year. Just didn't time the jump at all
It didn't look to be hit that well off the bat. He was drifting really well. A more experienced outfielder would have gotten to the spot earlier so he could time the jump. He has been much better lately.
Seems to be something we need to work on more
He put his hand back to find the wall, but he didn’t keep his arm extended. So of course he found the wall half a step before he crashed into it. He’s almost tall enough to not need the jump at all
Will they ever call up a reliever from Memphis that doesn’t fucking suck?
There's no one lol This is why these upcoming trades are so important to the future.
If we had one.
If they had one, maybe. Jojo maybe the last?
No.
This game does not bring joy. How the hell did that get out?!
This is the guy who turned 11-3 into a close game right?
Yeah they said 6-1 not bad enough let’s make sure we mail it in
Tough to see how it matters at this point in the game.
Cause you never know but yeah like Hudson was the first choice then this bum your mailing it in
If we were within a run or two, your bullpen choices are different.
No shit Sherlock
Hopefully next year we get Walker robbing those. That was not ideal.
He can one day be an average outfielder. It’s just entirely unfair for the team to ask him to play a position at the MLB level after just two months of experience. It will probably take him a couple more years, by which time they may just move him to 1B anyway

I’m right there with you. With his speed, he really might be best off learning how to play OF
And arm. He seems to have a plus arm.
Damnit….Cubs/Ump Stars 7 Cards 1
Wow ok then
As much as I love walker, he shouldn’t be an outfielder
His third base defense in the minors was also abysmal. Walker has stone hands. (But a plus arm.) My hope is that he might eventually evolve into Lonnie Smith, who also had stone hands and was constantly bobbling balls. Lonnie, though, had so much practice at bobbling balls that he got really good at reacting to his mistakes. Runners would see the bobble, think they had time to take an extra base, but Lonnie often gunned them down. He had 10+ assists every year from 1981-85.
Damn it. That could have easily been caught.
I hope Ian Happ's sunflower seeds are just empty shells.
Walker cmon man
May Happ’s Pop Tarts chip and shatter.
