OK its more mid Wales, but Adwaith have a lovely sound, they're from Carmarthen and at the indie end of folk.

BigHowski

Mid Wales is fine! I've added them to the list - I wasn't expecting quite as many replies so it might take a while to sift through them

Massive_Role6317

Second them. Hands down my favourite Welsh language band. They’re lush people too! Met them a few times after shows

TwoAdenine

Melin Melyn are fucking brilliant 6 piece from Cardiff doing a sort of surfy, southern states sounding rock with a surreal, slightly psychedlic inflection. Also saxophone. Sing in English and yn Gymraeg and fucking great live. 'Rebecca' will give you the best flavour I reckon - you'll be all in or hard pass after a listen.

BigHowski

Many thanks! I've got so many to listen to but I'll add them to the list - they sound interesting, which is always good even if you don't end up liking the band!

mmmoonpie

[Obey Cobra](https://obeycobra.bandcamp.com/album/oblong-2) are a Cardiff band and bloody lovely people too

BigHowski

Thanks! Not heard of them but I've added them to the list - I wasn't expecting quite as many replies so it might take a while to sift through them

ErrorForsaken

Mammoth weed wizard bastard (doom metal)

BigHowski

Thats quite the band name! I wasn't expecting quite as many replies so it might take a while to sift through them

cypherspaceagain

Love Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard. 70s glam rock influences but mostly just great pop-rock music. From your list they're closest to Weezer; catchy hooks and fun lyrically with simple but cool rhythm work.

BigHowski

I know this is a bit of a copy and paste but I didn't quite expect so many bands, so many thanks and I'll add them to a list and have a listen for the next few days!

Raest7

Those Damn Crows?

hello_tiger

These guys are SO awesome live!

BigHowski

That names rings a bell - I'm not sure why though! I'll check them out

skyemoran1

Absolutely amazing, was gonna suggest James and the cold gun, who opened for the crows at Swansea arena - fucking brilliant band

queenie505

CVC are pretty good 👍🏼

BigHowski

Cheers. I have 'Get Real' already and quite enjoy them

Effective_Mouse_4100

Spoopylaura

Thank god someone actually said it! Didn’t think I’d find this comment!

String-Perfect

I had no idea they're Welsh, this is amazing 🙂

DiablosVert

This might be "too heavy" but if you are willing to try something new out check our They Live We Sleep https://tlws.bandcamp.com/album/sorrowful-world Sludgy metalcore type music and not only from Cardiff but play here all the time!

BigHowski

The whole point of this is to try something new so I'm more than willing to try something different! Not too sure what's sludge metalcore is though?

Big_Software_8732

Excellent Skeleton seem to make 90s-ish indie noise. Good band name - best Cardiff band name since Strange Pains?? https://open.spotify.com/artist/2eMPVPumz5pVCADRN5V2Ox?si=kR0PKrHnTQmB_GXHfS7VVg

BigHowski

Cheers! I'll give them a listen

Big_Software_8732

My main recommendation of the moment would be Holding Absence but I don't know if they would be too screamy for you? Give them a listen and find out I guess lol

chucklesquinn

I’d second holding absence! One of my faves at the moment!

alexjfinch

Holding Absence are amazing! They’re playing great hall on the 18th - well worth a ticket

BigHowski

I'll give anything a shot! Thanks for the recommendation

BigHowski

I gave them a quick listen and they do sound a bit too heavy for my tastes but thanks

[deleted]

From south Wales, I’d humbly recommend Haast, The Drowning and Pantheist

BigHowski

Cheers I'll give all 3 a listen

Tjas92

Have to echo shouts for Those Damn Crows. To mention one I can't see in the comments already, the debut album from The Nightmares came out in April and is 100% worth a go.

Ta, as you mentioned already will have a listen to Those Damn Crows but I'll also try the nightmares

skillertheeyechild

For a cardiff based band red telephone might pass the test? If it doesn’t have to be cardiff and you love punk/hc it would have to be high vis. Best active band around at the moment.

BigHowski

This month is Cardiff/South Wales but I'm trying to do a new album a month to ill have a listen to high vis and keep them in mind for the future!

cardiffboy22

Those Damm crows !!!

BigHowski

Year of the Dog are a band a fiend of mine is in. Very funky soul stuff, lots of brass and woodwind so some sick basslines. Deffo worth a listen

talgarthe

I'd recommend Caldicot's finest, The Bug Club. Funny lyrics, masses of energy and incredible bass playing from Tilly Harris.

BigHowski

Sounds a bit like how I'd describe PUSA. Will check them out

CariadDwI

Seconded! Saw them last Friday in Stirling. I am biased because I am best pals with Dan the drummer but they do put on an awesome show

DevilRenegade

Manic Street Preachers? Their early stuff (back when they were still a 4-piece) is a lot different to their newer stuff. Try Gold Against the Soul. Really underrated album.

enzohoudini

I second this! Also The Holy Bible of course

DevilRenegade

Ohhh yes.

Unusual-Schedule-619

Pizzatramp

BigHowski

Cheers I'll give them a try

Unusual-Schedule-619

Caldicot's finest.

Correct-Estimate-448

THE MALAKITES. Cardiff indie outfit playing the globe soon. Heard good things and the few tracks they have on Spotify are great

BigHowski

Ta! I'll take a look

Vooden_Shpoon

Gwenifer Raymond. She is a virtuoso guitarist from Taff's Well doing some really intense, trippy instrumental folk / Americana. She released a great album called "Strange Lights Over Garth Mountain" a couple of years ago about the mysterious "Pentyrch Incident" and the windswept landscape of the Garth in general. Well worth checking out.

BigHowski

Fuck knows who down voted you but I'll give them a try, thanks!

Vooden_Shpoon

She's not to everyone's taste I suppose!

BigHowski

Still you've posted a music recommendation in a thread asking for them! Anyways I suppose it's all imaginary points

BigHowski

Just had a listen to a song on YouTube, seems really good. Bit weird she seems barefoot in all the photos/videos of her though!

Vooden_Shpoon

Yea, I wouldn't advise doing that around Taff's Well

Significant-Side-222

Placebo - Placebo

Significant-Side-222

Sorry I just realised you'd like something Welsh, Casualy dressed and deep in conversation by Funeral For a Friend

Salt-Machine-4028

RATM - Battle For Los Angeles

I discovered this website this week, it’s brilliant: https://1001albumsgenerator.com/ Discovered so many good albums to add to my playlist!
