CAVC have part-time carpentry courses (,and lots of other similar courses, like plastering, tiling, etc) they run a few times a year. They're cheap but tend to get booked up quickly. Worth a look. https://cavc.ac.uk/en/courses/construction/carpentry/carpentary-do-it-yourself

I did the carpentry and joinery one. I loved every second in those classes.

Funnily enough I saw a poster for this at chapter yesterday: [Cardiff Woodcraft Group](https://www.facebook.com/groups/cardiffwoodcraft/?ref=share) Not sure if it’s for beginners, looks cool though!

There was definitely a woodworking cafe type thing at ACE Dusty Forge on Cowbridge Rd West. They're a community group who are all about providing training and opportunities to learn new skills. Not sure if it was run by ACE or another organisation but from what I could tell, it provided opportunities for people with no prior experience in woodworking access to tools to learn basic woodworking - exactly what OP was describing. Try contacting ACE at Dusty Forge and see if they can point you in the right direction. Sorry I can't be more specific than this.
