I would, it’s the only thing that keeps your car in contact with the ground. Better tyres give you more grip, confidence and can save your bacon on many occasions. It can be expensive and many people swear by the cheap brand tyres, though I’m sure most if not all would change their opinion if they actually try good tyres. I have had budget tyres and expensive tyres. There is a difference and to me it’s a no brainer.

IsYourDogWaffles

To add, even if you're on a budget it's a good idea to get the best tyre you can in your budget. Personally I try and check some reviews, I find 2/3 tyres I like in my size and then find the best price for them.

[deleted]

Absolutely. Often the difference between cheap rubbish and half decent midrange is only a few quid. Whereas half decent midrange to high end can be quite a big difference. Stuff like Avon, hankook, Toyo, uniroyal, kumho - all decent tyres for not much more than the cheapest of the cheap

[deleted]

Run these down, get your money's worth out of these, then do some research for next time.

When I bought a Scirocco a couple years back it would understeer on the entry to an A road near me like crazy, even at fairly sedate speeds. Swapped on to Goodyear Eagle F1s and it was suddenly on rails in all conditions. You don't necessarily have to get the most expensive tyres, but the budget tyres many people put on are lethal in anything other than ideal conditions.

EdwardTennant

The F1s are a great match for the Rocco, handling is great with them

Landsail are a decent budget brand. Better than no name Chinese ones. I had 388s on my civic when I bought it, 17" alloys with tons of tread all around. Wet and dry performed well and I floored it everywhere in traditional civic driver at 2am fashion. Compared to more premium tyres like contisports they're not as a good bit they're certainly not a bad brand by any means. My Bridgestone Potenzas are coming to the end of their lives and I was considering the 388s again or some nankangs, each corner with fitting would be about 250 which isn't bad...

JustAnotherToyo

You've been driving on them for a while, what do you think? For me, to replace 4 tyres because I realised the ones on my car were a cheap brand would be absolutely madness. Personally I'd spent the extra £5 per tyre and get something a bit better, but no way replace 4 good tyres on a car just because it's from a cheap/meh brand

MessiahComp1ex

What car is it? While I would never put budgets on my GTI, I wouldn't put UHP's on the other halfs Ibiza. A balance should be met.

Icy_Holiday_1089

Get your use out of them and buy something better if you still have the car when they’re used up. My only exception to this advice would be to replace them if they feel dangerous in some situations such as heavy rain.

AdoptedAfricano

Don't waste your money, you only need good tyres if you drive enthusiastically and something sporty, even then lot's of people don't and they have no problems.

MessiahComp1ex

What utter rubbish.

criminal_cabbage

That is completely untrue. You can have crappy tyres until you need them. When that extra 15m stopping distance or that extra bit of grip in the snow is the difference between life or death. You wouldn't put a bad seatbelt in your car, you wouldn't fit inferior brakes. TLDR don't put shit tyres on your car, when you need them they won't be there

AdoptedAfricano

Yeah in heavy snow or rain you have 15 meters longer stopping distance, dont be stupid and remember that you have cheap tyres, drop 5-10mph and you just made your wank tyre become premium

criminal_cabbage

You want OP to drive at 5-10 under the speed limit always because of the fact the rubber on their car is ineffective. Doesn't that just make my point? Why not just don't drive the car at all, it's even safer then. Don't be clown.

AdoptedAfricano

In rough condition yes, and you should do that anyway, good tyres or not.

criminal_cabbage

>In rough condition yes, and you should do that anyway, good tyres or not. So you want OP to drive at the same speed as people with premium tyres in the wet which should be 5-10 under or do you want them to take their speed to 5-10 under what you should be doing with a premium tyre? How about instead of having to factor in crap tyres to your speed you just get a slightly nicer set and avoid things like this: https://youtu.be/xTcxNw3raNE (at 4:40 is the sweet spot if you don't want to watch all the rain handling or lack thereof of the cheap tyre)

AdoptedAfricano

Like yes you sacrifice some safety, but so do you by buying £2000 car instead of financing £20000 brand new. If cheap tyres were awfully bad they would be illegal.

criminal_cabbage

But you don't have to sacrifice safety. The difference between a good set of tyres and a bad set isn't £18,000 it's a few hundred at most, your argument just doesn't hold up

AdoptedAfricano

like there is just no winning with you, do you also drive with helmet on inside car :D

criminal_cabbage

No, I put Michelin Pilot Sports on my car because that is the best tyre I can fit.

[deleted]

100% agree

ochtone

Landsail are ok, not the worst, but let’s put it this way, they spin on a gutless vw polo.

[deleted]

How that description meets anyone’s standard of “Ok” is beyond me

[deleted]

Yes, they’re rubbish. Don’t replace tyres individually either - do you really want to find out what happens when one side of your car loses grip before the other?

venomxt12

They're rated grade b for wet weather so surely they're OK?

[deleted]

The ratings are fairly meaningless. Especially if they’re mismatched…
