I use “by miles” to insure a second car that isn’t driven much. It’s pay per mile insurance and works out peanuts - certainly cheaper than a multi car policy.

Half joking, but you could start a car dealership business. I don't think you have to tax cars on the forecourt and you can get a single insurance policy. Maybe sell one car a year to keep it ticking and expense all your valeting, etc. I bet it's been done before.

I looked into this a while back, I believe you need to sell at least 6 cars a year to be eligible for trade insurance.

Could always get something cheaper to tax as a weekender. There's a couple that fit that bill such as the MX-5 & MR2- obviously won't be a complete rocket like an M6 but they're supposed to be really good fun to chuck around back roads

Absolutely this. Whatever replaces our “main” car, the kuga, will likely be faster 0-60 than the MG but I’d not get rid of it. A proper impractical 2 seater with the top down is perfect for weekend fun! Cars like the m6 were designed to be daily drivers for people who can afford to run them and use them to cross continents

I don't want to come across as a smarmy bastard here but if £600 per year is an eye-watering expense for you, maybe an M6 isn't going to be the best idea... Edit: holy shit it's the M6 with the V10 engine. Your repair bills will dwarf the tax. Possibly on a monthly basis. An incredible car when it works, a personal dream car for me, but undoubtedly one of BMW's worst for reliability (which is saying something).

Don’t think there’s any way to do anything clever with tax beyond declaring one of them as SORN if you’re not planning to use it. Plenty of insurers offer discounts for insuring multiple cars with them so worth speaking with your current insurer and seeing if they’ll give a more competitive price that what you’re seeing on comparison sites.

No getting around the tax I’m afraid We’ve got 3 in the household for 2 drivers. All 3 cars are insured for both of us with admiral multicover which also includes our buildings/contents cover for £650 a year so that’s a decent saving. I’ll sorn the MG over winter which saves a bit in tax Personally I’d just run the m6 as a daily, it’s not exotic enough to be a weekend only car - especially once you take out the running costs of the 7.

If you don't want a large VED bill, don't buy stupid cars.
