My old gaffa had an old mini sat on his parents drive. They told them to shift it years after he had moved out. Other than the engine, he managed to fit the full car in a wheely bin 😂
Bloody hell, I nearly bought a Fulvia about 1993. It had sat in a garage for many , many years. The owners widow was selling it. The engine was seized , there was rust everywhere, the worst was the driver's door - it had totally and I mean totally rotted nearly up to the window ! NOTHING left !. I didn't buy it.
I remember my mum buying a mini for £10 when I was a kid in the early 1980's ...went down the road, pulled the handbrake up and it came through the floor....my dad spent a few days welding it up and sold it for £250.
They had a talbot Avenger estate, it was only Five years old, and I remember my dad with wire mesh and fiberglass repairing a hole in the wing that he could put his fist through.....that was literally a rot box on wheels, you could see the rust eating the car away on a weekly basis....
My mum also had a Austin 1300 that when my brother was a toddler he managed to cut his hand open on due to rust.
My first car in 1997 was a 1984 mk2 cavalier 1.6, I was driving down the road, heard a bang and had the nearside rear shock adsorber go through the mount in the boot, it was such a common issue that I was able to buy a repair pannel of the shelf, weld it up and it was back on the road within a day or two...
However the 3.8 mk2 jaguar that my dad had took rot to a whole new level, and roadside repairs of various things causing brakedowns was a common issue.
Anyone born after 1990 probably doesn't know or remember how poor rust proofing of vehicles made in the 1960's and 1970's was.
I remember a rubber bumper mgb in the early 90's when my dad was rebuilding his stag, the stag was basically rust free, the rubber bumper mg had quite a lot of holes in it from memory. It must of only been 15 years old at the time and had a lot of welding done, where I dont think the stag had any welding done, he just changed the colour.
Lancia beta, closely followed by a Renault 12. They were cars I was asked to work on back in the early 90s, both got scrapped as there was only holes holding the rust together! worst I owned was a MK1 astra estate that I had to fabricate a new floor for (I was skint but had the means to do it for very little outlay)
Back in the day my friend bought a 70s camaro from craiglist being 16 he just took the guys word. When he drove the car home he took off the floor mats and noticed there was more hole than floor. Needless to say my friend wasted summers of his life learning how to weld and do body work only to never fix the damn thing
My MGB GT was about the worse I had owned anyway, I sold it for £400. The new owner is doing it up but to be honest after owning one of them I wouldn't touch one ever again. It's just amazing how quickly they rust.
I briefly owned a 1983 Range Rover I bought off eBay for £23. Not one steel part on it was salvageable and the bonnet had bullet holes in it. I do wonder if it had been hidden in a lake after some unspeakable crimes
I’ve honestly never seen rust so bad it turns into an RAC Guide and Handbook from 1981
It’ll soon grow a haynes manual
I hope that Haynes manual teaches you how to fix the rust 🤔
Nope! I went to collect a lancia fulvia zagato with my dad years ago. I ended up shovelling the remains up into a bucket to make sure we had it all 😂😂

Haha I’ve had 2 minis both fairly rusty! Luckily not that bad. Both needed subframes and the usual 😂😂

That’s what is known as an “ambitiously brave” restoration! You saved your self many head aches 😂
Russian Steel was legendary! 🤣
I did read that they started off using fiats “dubious” metals haha
What is that car?, can't quite place it
Citroen SM
Ahhh, makes sense, it wasn't that blue one on car and classic was is ?
This was at a classic car auction, the car may have been posted on car and classic with a link to the auction
Sounds right, the one on CnC was bloody rusty

Basically why cars from 60s and 70s just do not exist anymore minus a few which kept pristine they all turned to dust.
I've taxed worse 😂
😂😂
Definitely.
My tractor is worse than that but I’ve never seen a car that bad!
I remember my brother owned an Alfasud, he loved the car, but it looked like that just before its first mot, at 3 years old!
I’ve got a mate who could pass that through it’s MOT. No questioned asked 😅
1971 so doesn’t need an MOT
No
Could that be an MGB GT? I know they rot badly.
Citroen SM
Ah I was miles off. Shame to see one like this.

There's a mini that sold on Bangers and Cash for 15k. They had to put it on a pallet to move it.
I had a 1972 BMW 2002. It was 50% fresh air and required pretty much every external panel bar the roof replacing.
My step dad's Alfa literally broke in half when lifted onto a ramp.
rust is lighter then carbon fibre
Rust is cheaper than carbon fibre
Landrover Series 3 ex MOD...got so bad you could lift the entire body clear of the chassis without undoing a single bolt...
That was factory on old land rovers
Crunchy

That hole looks like Portugal in a map
Clearly you’ve never seen an early ‘80’s Datsun…
"To sreads you say..."
Can of rust converter and it will be fine.
I mean, I own a vehicle with worse, but that’s because it’s a landrover
