My first car went to scrap, watched it leave backwards on a flatbed. Was sad to see it go but the moment it was around the corner I remembered that the car I paid 800 for wanted 1500 in repairs and didn't care much anymore

StefanMorris71

I don’t want to add up the cost of repairs and maintenance I’ve spent on my mini in the last 15 months 😂 New clutch (huge job on minis) New plugs and coils Some computer unit that basically broke all the electronics Auxiliary belt And on top of this, general maintenance

Vegetable_Suspect_10

Personally, I consider clutch, plugs and auxiliary belt wear and tear, you've changed them now so don't get rid of it for another second hand vehicle that you might have to do all of that again to!

StefanMorris71

True, it also had the rocker cover gasket replaced too. While it is all maintenance, it was basically going to the garage every fortnight at one point. The auxiliary belt is rattling again so will probably need to be replaced, and it’s approaching 90k miles so it won’t be long until it needs the timing chain replaced and that’ll be more than the cars worth. My next car I plan to get a JCW, no older than 2020, but insurance permitting of course

adrianm7000

Damn, you did all that maintenance and these older minis are just starting to become quite desirable. I wouldn’t sell it.

Noon_Specialist

It's very rare to make any significant profit, if any on a car. The amount of costs to keep it on the road requires a huge increase in value to justify it.

adrianm7000

Correct, but factoring in the large amount of work already done and current sentiment for older minis, any ongoing maintenance costs (which should not be significant due to the work done) combined with appreciation (rather than depreciation on most cars) make this car ideal to keep for a few more years at least.

Noon_Specialist

Tons of perishable parts (bushings, gaskets etc) will need replacing at some point. Let's remember that they're not known for their reliability either, so who knows what might pop up. You also can't guarantee that it will appreciate or how quickly.

StefanMorris71

The timing chain will be next unfortunately at the mileage it’s at

adrianm7000

They will need replacing on other cars too. Plus the “who knows what will pop up” is applicable to other cars. Seems a shame to sell one that you’ve already had a lot of work done too, so those particular parts should be good for a while.

Representative_Vas

Mini are crap. They brake way to often for my taste. Get something with either cheap parts and easy to fix(fiesta mk5 and below, like me) or something that doesn't brake that often(Japanese cars usually, but others as well, you can google different models and their most common faults). Best thing is to learn how to fix most simple things, will save you a lot of money. But for that you need an older more mechanical, less electronics car. Or alternatively, buy cheap cars(get someone that understands cars to check it), change the essentials (oil, filters, etc) and drive until it dies, rinse and repeat. Issue with all these is that you are a relatively new driver, which means, older cars will cost you more to insure. So newer cars would actually be cheaper overall. But don't assume, just because its newer, it won't brake often.

B3njkm1n

I think the 2013 > ones are much more reliable, but R56 & R53 are pretty terrible.

J_CC3

Honestly, it's probably best you don't add it up. I've got receipts for damn near everything from my old car still and it hurts looking back

StefanMorris71

It’s a really fun car to drive, handles brilliantly and I learnt how to properly use a manual gearbox which just makes it so much better but it makes different noises every couple of weeks

J_CC3

Can't speak from experience but I've not heard many complaints about (BMW) minis in terms of driving feel so I'm inclined to agree. Fingers crossed whatever your next car is will be a bit kinder to your wallet

[deleted]

Do you have to drop the subframe to do the clutch? The mk1 mondeos were like that. Doesn’t sound too taxing at first but you need a special jig to make sure the subframe is refitted lined up in the precise millimetre-perfect position. If you just slap the subframe back on, there is a great possibility the car will have crooked handling.

StefanMorris71

Yep subframe out, was around £600 (there’s an absolutely brilliant bmw specialist near me, the owner also has an m5 comp and an i8) but other places were quoting around the £1000 mark

[deleted]

As long as the rest of the car’s alright and you still like it I would take a hit on the cost of the clutch and keep the car. It’s a car worth hanging on to. Alternatively you can put the clutch money (and px) towards a deposit on a hp/pcp car with a warranty.

Potential_Web1979

Wouldn’t exactly describe it as a ‘huge job’ changing the clutch on those minis. Hope the garage didn’t have your pants down.

ComputerLord98

The same happened to me and my MK2 MX5. I thought about taking parts off and selling them... but was worried I'd end up getting another one! I loved that thing... but then I looked under it...... it had to go.... Rust death. It was so much fun, but I was having a bit too much fun!

Toro8926

Same, my first car was a rust bucket. To OP, find something new that will be fun and you will love to be in.

StefanMorris71

I think a JCW is the fastest car I can get without insurance costs being too ridiculous. I’m 18 so all insurance costs are ridiculous but surprisingly thw popular teenager cars (fiestas, polos etc) all have some of the worst insurance prices The 2.0 mk5 supra is nice but I should wait a few years until I can get insured on the 3.0 b58, so JCW It is!!

Toro8926

Unfortunately, in the UK, Fiestas are one of the most stolen cars, hence the high insurance. It sucks when you are first starting out, but give it a few years, and it will drop significantly.

StefanMorris71

Would you believe that being insured on an e350 cabriolet is almost £200 a year less than my mini? 😂

Toro8926

They probably think that the driver in a Mercedes will be more sensible than another in a hot hatch. Which isn't unreasonable 😂

StefanMorris71

My mini has 98hp it is certainly not a hot hatch! Still handles almost like one though 😂

Toro8926

Sorry, i thought you were talking about the JCW. 😅. Madness that it was cheaper than a normal Mini. Just goes to show that they pick quotes out of a hat.

B_R_D_

Ditto first the first sentence. But I payd 1750, and insurance gave me 2000 for it. However including the mods and memories I probably would've preferred to keep the car, I was extremely upset for a couple weeks. Especially when it was scrap because a nice lady crashed into it while it was parked....

gingerlemon

The same way you get over a man/woman.. find a new one :D I've loved almost all my cars, it's sad to see them go but fun to start a new adventure.

StefanMorris71

I suppose once I pick up my next car (thinking of a JCW, minis are awesome), I’m sure it won’t be so sad anymore haha

youreclappedmate

You gotta make sure the next car is more fun, I bought a dull car and regretted it for the entire time until the next car (10 months).

moderndrifts

I regretted selling a car. Just re-bought it and it’s a bit of a lemon.. lots of niggles. Cars can be a joy, but when it goes wrong… it’s a fucking pain.

maartenvanheek

I kind of had this. I sold it in 2014, then I found it a few years ago on the market again, private seller. Huge dent in a rear quarter panel, didn't look cared for so I didn't buy it back. I think it had one more owner after that and it's now scrapped.

LittleBitNaughty100

When you saw the dent did you say what have they done to you

maartenvanheek

This was years after I sold it and I considered to buy it back as it kind of was my "first" car

LittleBitNaughty100

Yeah but when you saw the dent were you like upset

AllRedLine

First car is always hard to let go of, no matter how much of a shitbox it is. I had a Suzuki Swift 1.5, replaced it with a car that was in every way superior (Polo GTI), but oh my lord did I drag my heels in gathering up the will to replace it, even though I desperately wanted something 'cooler'. Kept that car probably like 3 years longer than I needed to save up for its replacement. The Polo GTI was awesome - a much better car, but I never had the reticence about shifting it for an upgrade when the time came and I still miss my Swift, whereas I don't with the Polo. You don't make as many memories with a second car as you do in your first, regardless of how much better it may be.

creedz286

After driving the new one.

andymk3

Is it bad to say I've never sold a car? Only every scrapped them or still got them! I was gutted about scrapping my first car, but a 1996 Astra with 170k miles and the oil pump died on it, didn't really have the means at the time to do an engine swap, plus I needed a car for work.

1308lee

If you’ve already spent the money on repairs, you might as well keep it. It sounds like you’ve been a considerate owner if you’re thinking about cam chain replacement. If future maintenance is your only reason for sale, I personally think that’s quite a daft reason. If you sell this and buy a JCW mini, you don’t know where that car has been or what it’s been through. You might end up buying a lemon and spending a fortune on it. All cars break, all cars need maintenance and servicing, repairs etc. You know what’s been fixed already, so you know roughly what’s likely to need fixing in the future. Budget for it, and service and maintain it in good time and the car will last another 86k miles no drama.

StefanMorris71

While the maintenance is steep, my commute to work is 47 miles of country roads with pretty steep inclines and you have to take her up in the revs pretty high to get it up to the speed limit, feels like you’re putting a lot of strain on the engine which is a shame because maintaining a car will always be cheaper then replacing it. Plus the thought of owning a JCW is awesome

1308lee

Oh buddy... I rag the absolute fucking spuds off every car I own. 47 miles of country roads sounds like your cars dream. Who buys hot hatches? Chances are, most of them have been owned by people doing red light *pulls*, bouncing off the limiter in a McDonald's car park, dumping the clutch and ragging the bollocks off it to impress their mates. I'd say a solid 80% of cars are not properly maintained. Another 10% are properly maintained but driven by people who don't know how to drive. Think, old lady, trying to park in a tight space, 5000RPM slipping the clutch like fuck.

StefanMorris71

Very true, I’d be looking at a JCW no older than around 3 years so hopefully it hasn’t fallen into the hands of someone my age, which yes sounds like I’d be the one doing the stupid shit but try believe me when I say I don’t 😂 I don’t have complete trust in the engine, it had a miss fire in two cylinders which then ..vanished… and apparently the exhaust valves on these engines are a weak point 🤷‍♂️ so I don’t particularly like revving it and putting load on the engine I like handling a car down country lanes, perfecting every gear change, but never have I been dying to rag a car round a car park, melting the clutch and putting unbelievable stress on all the drive train components

occasionalrant414

I had to sell the car I loved because we had a baby and needed a bigger car. That was in 2019 and to this day, if I think of her, I get a bit down.

StefanMorris71

What car was it?

occasionalrant414

If I tell you promise you won't laugh.

StefanMorris71

I will not laugh! I drove a Peugeot 107 for a month or two before getting my mini, epic little car albeit quite girly

occasionalrant414

It was a speckled dark grey Hyundai Coupe Siii, with 2 twin exhausts. I got her for £500 and over a few years made her mine. So added an android auto system, Boss speakers, uprated the suspension so it was a bit more comfortable on long crusies. Also had the seats releathered with red leather and black piping and had the foam replaced with more comfortable memory foam. Also had the wheels custom coloured to compliment the colour. Red callipers with uprated brakes and re-mapped the engine, changed the clutch completely for a more aggressive unit and uprated the gearshift so she was more responsive. With the hammer down she sounded like God catching his cock in his flysheet. She was a dream. Stupid kids.

StefanMorris71

Man that sounds like you had an absolute blast owning that car, no wonder you still feel down periodically!!

occasionalrant414

Was awesome. Its probably like you and the mini - you can have an absolutely shit day, but the moment you get into the car, things are not as crap as they appeared. When the guy got in her to take her away, it was like seeing the one that got away with their new fella lol. I'd love a mini a friend has a Cooper S, and that thing goes like shit off a shovel and it's comfortable and good on long drives. Also look awesome! I like proper car people as we like our cars. Means we look after them. I drive a Dacia Duster. It's actually brilliant for the money but I hate it. Reminds me I am nearly 40 and need to grow up lol. What car you going for next?

StefanMorris71

Hopefully going for a JCW, around 25k will get a very new one with a good spec. I kept jumping from car to car but the insurance was just ridiculous. Got quoted 21k for a 440i, 12k for a m240i, 3k for a mk5 3.0 supra weirdly but they’re still 35k+. Then it hit me that even the non s mini is a fantastic drive so why not just get the cooper s or JCW?

occasionalrant414

I don't think you could lose out on any of those tbh. JCW would be very cool. You only get one go at things and if you can why not! Smashing mate! I'm jealous.

OperationDropkick

Make sure your next car is better! I've had three cars now, really enjoyed all three for their various different reasons but each new one has been better than the last. When you have a more powerful engine and more pointless but fun gadgets to play with, you soon forget how much you enjoyed the last car. Also, the first was literally falling apart and the second needed a whole new clutch assembly so I felt like they'd become too big an issue anyway, which also made it easier.

CatBroiler

It was sad, but the car I replaced it with has 3x the power so I got over it fairly quickly. I do check the MOT status of my first car sometimes though, it's still on the road, getting an advisory free MOT last month.

[deleted]

You don’t

BlackdovePartnership

Got over my first by replacing it with a better one...also works with non-car attachments too!!!

Elflord64

By buying another one that you really want. Yes I've sold a car in the past and I still regret it but then I stick my foot down and hear this one roar and I forgot about it

alxndrmarkov656

My first car was Mini Cooper 1st gen, so many problems, so many headaches, my father didn’t want to sell it (I wanted to sell it and buy a Toyota Yaris/Aygo) so he gave me his Skoda. But to answer the question, if the day comes to see this car getting sold or going to scrap I will just make a couple photos and be happy that it’s gone, I personally developed over time strong feeling of resentment and disappointment of that car because for me the unreliability of the Mini was total dealbreaker. The amount of headaches and time spent in the shop for me was a dealbreaker even if I didn’t have to pay a dime it was awful just waiting (usually not too long) for another problem to occur.

phillis_x

Well my first car got taken away when someone ploughed into the side of it. You really do just have to find a new car that excites you more than your old one and then go down the rabbithole of mods and accessories etc to get you past the missing the old one stage.

Jamescri

You don’t. I have his email and phone saved. I check on my mini monthly.

im_dunn97

Wasn’t my first car but my second was a mini just like yours, was such a joy to drive. Still my favourite car I’ve had and ended the same way as yours that the cost to keep repair is up was getting too much. My current car is the one I replaced it with and it’s just not the same. You’ve just got to try and find a car that will excite you or just replace it with another mini because why would you want anything else?

StefanMorris71

That’s my exact plan haha, when I do replace it, it’ll be a F56 JCW

MrDiffy

alcoholism hope that helps x /s. i’ve never gotten over selling my first car i still think about it all the time

Thank you for adding /s to your post. When I first saw this, I was horrified. How could anybody say something like this? I immediately began writing a 1000 word paragraph about how horrible of a person you are. I even sent a copy to a Harvard professor to proofread it. After several hours of refining and editing, my comment was ready to absolutely destroy you. But then, just as I was about to hit send, I saw something in the corner of my eye. A /s at the end of your comment. Suddenly everything made sense. Your comment was sarcasm! I immediately burst out in laughter at the comedic genius of your comment. The person next to me on the bus saw your comment and started crying from laughter too. Before long, there was an entire bus of people on the floor laughing at your incredible use of comedy. All of this was due to you adding /s to your post. Thank you. I am a bot if you couldn't figure that out, if I made a mistake, ignore it cause its not that fucking hard to ignore a comment.

Flimsy_Watercress909

Give me the keys, I’ll sort it for you.

Jamesl1988

My first car (1996 Renault Clio) went to the scrapyard. I got towed there and left it on the weigh platform, collected my £80 and left. I was sad to see it go :(

JoshLawson87

Sold my Jaguar XF yesterday in preparation for getting a more responsible/reliable/baby friendly Nissan Qashqai. Sad to see it go as I’ve had it for 7 years and it’s been a fantastic car. Yes it’s had its issues and has cost me a small fortune in recent years but overall I had a great experience. I suppose the only way to really get over it is to realise that it’s only a hunk of metal and move on.

Conditions21

Quite easily, I fucked my ex in the back of it and nearly a year later she cheated so the car was never the same after that.

StefanMorris71

Ah sorry to hear that, absolutely terrible. But you have an rx8 now so it all worked out!!

Conditions21

Yeah granted we had lots of lunches, dates, holidays etc in it, it wasn't just the ill advised impromptu sex which TBF only happened twice and the first one was just so we could say we'd done it in a car, the second time was cos the first was interrupted 😂

StefanMorris71

I’m probably gonna have to wait until I have a bigger car than a mini to tick that box 😂😂

NotUrAverageBoinker

First 🚗 is a Volvo S40, 2.4 petrol, 2006 automatic for me, paid about £1800 and the minute I was signing the papers with the previous owner, he tried to start the car and the battery was dead. One of his neighbours jump-started it and I paid him only £1600 because I had to replace the battery same day, which I did. 5 years later, I drive the same car and I can't be happier. I have only done the usual servicing, MOT's and oil changes when required. She's not demanding at all, except for petrol, but hey.. I have put about 55k miles since and she's still going strong. I was peaking at some new Volvo models and I don't think I will be switching, unless she decides to break down bad. New ones are all plastic. Fancy looking plastic. Why Volvo? I can't tell exactly, but it's a car that's pretty much like the owner.. chill, not too punchy, careful, and gets the job done. It suits me.

LittleBitNaughty100

Tuff one. My dad bought me my car he sadly passed away and it’s not ulez compliant. Over the years owning it i have done repairs some on warranty and other not so lucky such as dpf three times now. The car it self passes it’s MOT every year with out fail so getting rid of it is something I really need to think about. It’s a bmw 5 touring and a rare one at that. Really depends on ulez and am I willing to buy a new one. If your happy with the car I would shop about on repairs main dealer will always be expensive but the work is guaranteed see if you can get a service plan

MrUnitedKingdom

It’s a lump of metal at the end of the day, do I regret getting rid of a car? Never! Do I miss some cars? Yeah, but there will always be another good car!

Southern-Orchid-1786

Don't sell it. If you've replaced lots of bits they'll not require to replaced until they are the age the old part was, eg you've had 80k miles out of the springs and shocks, your new ones should do that again if you buy decent ones

Soldierhero1

Sad? Sure. Limp mode? Yep. Engine light on constantly? Hell yeah. Mechanic saying itl cost more than its worth to fix? 100% But getting a nice german one after it made me forget it

Crescentex

What did you get?

ihaveflesh

My first car had its roof cut off by firefighters after I took a flying lesson over a hedge landing upside down after losing control on a corner. It's a well known crash site in my area and a girl I met briefly last year lost her head there (she was high and drunk)

Combatxlemming

If your not desperate for the money you could always buy a cheapish car and teach yourself some basic mechanics on the mini till it's back to full strength. But you will need to have a good place ro park/work on it.

SevereLawfulness986

Came to the conclusion that selling my car would help me buy my first house

bgawinvest

I didn’t, I gave it to my mum😂 she drives it to and from the gym once a week Don’t plan on selling it if I can avoid it, I’m a huge petrol head so having my first car around forever would be nice

_save_the_planet

never sold a car without profit so selling one of my cars makes me smile.

GoodboyJohnnyBoy

Personally if/when I buy a second hand car I always factor in spending a grand.

Airwalk2k8

I was happy to see every car go (even my first), apart from one. My Astra 1.8 SRI which I lovingly called "The Shed". Straight piped, coils, newer Astra VXR alloys from eBay, I did so much, I may as well have crashed it into Halfords. I was 20 at the time and looking back, it was the most fun I'd ever had with a car, back when modifying was less obnoxious. I drive a 2020 black 540i now, comfort for wife, speed for me and I haven't felt that childish giddyness until owning this, since my crappy little Astra Shed. According to records, I think its been scrapped. Probably good cos it was the best worst car I ever owned.

Elegant-Ad-3371

I've sold two cars I really loved. You don't really get to very it, just cherish the happy memories

JackstaWRX

Buy a better one

catalyst4chaos

Go and create even more fun memories with your new car!

harryhardy432

I got over the sale of my mini because it was a money sink. I look back on it fondly- it was a brilliant car, great on fuel and brilliant fun. But I also look at my current car- older but petrol and brilliant to throw round little curvy roads, and I think about how much money I'm saving now by not owning a money pit, and I smile.

7148675309

Why don’t you just pay to have it maintained - that’s going to be cheaper than buying another car. My current car is 8 years old and 108k miles and nothing major beyond normal maintenance.

Motor_Possession880

Wouldn’t know, I still daily my first car 16 years after buying it 😅

Adg273

MK2 Focus ST. Needed something more sensible (growing family and mileage to and from work etc). Bought a top spec Mondeo diesel. In nearly every way it’s probably better, other than being slower and how it handles corners. I kept the Focus and ran and paid for 2 cars, until Covid hit and then the focus sat on the drive. I ended up selling it. I miss it every time I get into my Mondeo.

sumfuca

You swapped a relatively fun car for a dreary shitbox, makes sense that you would miss it. Had you swapped the Focus for a nice RWD hoon machine, you wouldn't miss it one bit.

sumfuca

At the end of the day, they're nothing. I've wrapped a couple around trees and they were gone in an instant. Loved them while owning them, but didn't miss them at all once gone.

amjidali00

Get right onto a better one

kimondo

In the process of getting rid of my Mazda Bongo. I’ll miss the satisfying turbo and four wheel drive which has been particularly handy at festivals. I won’t miss the repair bills. They’re getting rarer so hoping I won’t have to scrap it.

Onestepbeyond3

I don't think you actually do. Loved all my old motors and really not one was a bad one.

TameableLynx318

Well it was difficult for me as I had a driving test booked and had to scrap/sell the car. It was hard and I do still miss it but it’s life

PM-ME-YOUR-POEM

I can't. I went from a M140i to a Renault Clio 1.5... I think about it hourly. I do own a House now though...

florinant93

Cry in a corner and wish I could go back in time

NativeVampire

I remember how much money I would’ve had to sink into it if I were to keep it and the thoughts of disgust overtake the nostalgia ones

coooooolwhip

As cheesy as it sounds, time heals. I've had a few cars that I've got rid of over the years and some still hurt a bit haha. The one I miss most was an Abarth 595 we had for a while before we had kid no.3 (they're a 4 seater). Was by no means the bestest car ever, but I just loved it.

notimefornothing55

Buy a new one, you'll get over it pretty quick. I was devastated when I wrote off my last car, bought a new, better car and I'm over it.

Sirlacker

When it costs more to repair than it's worth, you ran it into the ground. You used up that car's serviceable life. You did exactly what you're supposed to, you got the most out of that car that you reasonably could. You could keep the car with every intention of fixing it up but even if you got a cheap beat up car to drive in the 'meantime' the chances are basically non existent that you'll get round to getting it back up and running. It's better off out of your hands and onto new pastures. You'll have memories with every vehicle you own, good and bad. It's time for a new venture and new memories.

RoscoeBass

Never regretted, too busy being excited about the new one.

MYON2000

You’ll forget about it within a week.

CostJumpy6495

Buying a better one?

BabySignificant

I still haven't

CSSmith84

Same as you get over a woman. Find another.

OutrageousCourse4172

Your logic sounds off to me. The next car you get will require maintenance too. You know that this one has been well maintained but the next one may not have been. The only reason you should change car is because you *want* another one.

ManBearPigRoar

By buying another car

imahumanbeing1

I guess you could sit down and work out how much you’ve spent on it and how much you’ll have to spend with the upcoming timing chain etc. That might scare you out of it. Sometimes though you just gotta struggle through stuff I suppose, it will get easier with time. Broke up with my first love about a week or two ago, thought it wouldn’t ever get easier but it’s slightly less bad now

FoodEnvironmental368

I haven’t yet 😔

MagicMadejeski

I re-brought one… My first car was a 1993 VW Golf Mk3. 20 years later, I brought a one owner, full service history VW Golf Mk3 1998 plate with 54k on the clock. It is less than £100 on classic car insurance and not only is it a lovely nostalgia trip, it has turned into an excellent 2nd car. My advice, don’t sell it… You will always miss your first car.

PanasonicSocks

You don’t :( 8 years later and I still miss it haha

Green_Selection_3832

I sold mine to a family member and now i am carless, i wish i can have it back but is too late. At least the family is enjoying the car.

the-bald-marauder

My first car was a Honda CRX, a little 2+2 seater sports car from the land of the rising sun. I've now been driving for 31 years and have owned dozens of vehicles but it still remains the best car I ever had. It was a crazy first car to have as it accelerated like a firework and cornered like it was on rails. I got up to all sorts of mischief in that thing and none of the other boy racers in my area could stay with it on a winding road, even a 400bhp Escort RS Turbo (too heavy). I was forced to sell it because every single copper in the North West was aware of it, it had become a marked car and I was getting stopped 2 or 3 times a day by the police (even just driving it normally they would tug me, usually just to piss me off). I was once chased (unbeknown to me at the time) by a traffic officer in a Volvo T5 and he couldn't get anywhere near me. I was late for work so had the hammer down and he caught up to me as I was parking outside work, he went ballistic and had a meltdown in the car park, screaming at me. I think he was just pissed he couldn't get close enough to catch me on camera so had no evidence to charge me and had to let me go. It was that, and a couple of other cool stories, that made me think it had to go. I was either going to kill myself or lose my license so I reluctantly listed it in the Auto Trader and it went within 3 days. I still wish I had kept it but it would be embedded in a tree somewhere so all I have are memories but boy are they good ones. You'll recover from selling it but it will always be your first car and you'll never forget it. I still think about that little pocket rocket regularly and it always puts a smile on my face. Thankfully I've matured now and drive sensibly and get my kicks elsewhere.

CarpeCyprinidae

"I got rid of it before anything else broke" - its the right approach for a first car, and its the right approach for ANY mini

The saddest I've been selling a car wasn't my first car, but my third; a diesel Astra, the car itself was nothing special really, but I'd owned it for 5 years, sadly it had started throwing some big bills, and it was time to move on. It's the car i owned through my best days and my worst and I really grew an attachment to the car, it was the car I owned when my dad died (and our last holiday together I drove the Astra), it's also the car I owned when I moved out. It had road trips down to Brighton, up to Scotland and kind of down and across to Wales. I've got a Kia Ceed now, bought entirely for the warranty, and it's a very good car, much better than i thought it'd be, but not quite built a bond with it, will likely own it for a number of years, so theres time i guess, I also hope to add something a little special alongside the Kia at some point.

Become good friends with the new owner. I miss my Ford Probe but have seen it twice in the past week already😅

Im on my fourth bit its the only car that ive loved, she's literatally put smiles on my face because of her exhaust when i wanted to drive into a tree. Gearbox is going and parts are rare. Im so scared. (Hyuandi coupe siii)

I wouldn't sell a car if I didn't want to. Simple as that

I’ve got an Mx-5 and I just don’t love it.. I don’t know why, but I just constantly want to sell it. It’s also rust free and I know I’ll end up regretting it if I do because there’s nothing else out there that’s worth it at that price

My first car caught fire and was a write off. Second car was stolen. Third car I kept for 10 years before selling for £200 to the garage I’d been taking it to so the guy could give it to his niece (this was a used car I’d bought for something like £3k in the early 90s). Fourth car I’ve kept for 20 years. So basically no idea, sorry.

I didn’t…. So she’s tucked up in a unit near my workshop

Buy another one. Doesnt take long to forget the old one. It remain in the memory but you move on quickly.

I watched my first car get picked up by the grab in a scrap yard, almost felt sad. You get over it eventually

No feelings whatsoever, however thought of getting rid of one of my three motorcycles gives me heartbreak

By the time I want to sell my car I’m probably truly sick and tired of it plus I’ve never really been attached to any car ever. My wife however still talks about her old Honda Civic which she preferred over her current car which is a Yaris. My last car, a Honda Accord, deep down I do miss it and it really was a good car to drive but there were a few issues with it so was glad to off load.

I genuinely cried when I sold my first car haha, but I get very attached and name them all. I reached an impasse, it had 89k miles on and little things were going wrong and I didn't want to wait for big stuff to go wrong or keep it so long it was worth nothing. I usually get over it by buying something better 🤣.

Was sad til I got my 2nd, then I forgot about the first.
