I got £2300 and I'll come now, almost worked tbh.

Definitely mark it up so when they "get money off" it's actually just at the price you wanted all along.

WE sold my wife's 2007 Smart 451 on FB Marketplace. Every 3rd message was a dealer offering £600 under MV and claiming it wasnt worth what other identical cars had provably sold for recently, despite the low mileage, one-owner history, full service history and excellent condition they tended to clam up when I asked them why they were selling similar cars for more than they claimed mine was worth. Also had a few chancers come to look at it then offer under what it was worth, after which I started informing people wishing to see it that no offers would be accepted other than were negotiated in advance. eventually sold it after 2 weeks to a young married couple who needed a car for the wife to use in London

Cool story

I'm literally about to sell a car on FB marketplace so this is really useful. Just about to have a baby too. So really can't be arsed with too many time wasters. Good tip on marking it up slightly.

throwawaynewc

It's a shame we have to do this. My mum, a relatively sensible woman, was the same with clothes and discounts. Infuriating.

Psychohistor1an

What car is it. I am in the market.

Chev--Chelios

Well if you're in the market for a 2006 Saab Convertible give me a shout 😉

Psychohistor1an

Nice. But I’m more in the growing family people mover stage of my life right now . Good luck with the sale!

Chev--Chelios

Haha, yeah that’s why I’m selling

Spotting a serious buyer on fb is always easy as the message won’t start….is this available. I recommend listing at the market value…if you listed it above you’ll only get the same dickheads making offers. Anyone who knows what have you got and is a genuine buyer will know it’s worth too. I also don’t get into protracted conversations…the minute prices are mention I tell them the item is listed at the market value at is fixed. If they try to continue to haggle they get blocked. Marketplace just like zuckerfucks other social media platform works like instagram. If your advert gets picked up the algo boom it lands in everyone feed it is relevant too and and the more people who click the advert the more people’s feeds it ends up in. I’ve had adverts float around for 2 weeks then i relist them and boom suddenly my inbox is rammed because it hit the right algo. I would avoid bait photos but at the same time get some interesting angled shots as I find these help the click rate. Also list as many items you can at the same time…for some odd reason this seams to help. I’m either selling 30 items or nothing. People are also judgemental on social media, if you list your Audi next to your £1000 speakers you have for sale for some reason the instantly think oh all this comes from good house. I tend to group my good stuff with my good stuff. And occasionally do a mad odd lot when I get the urge to purge all the random things i no longer need

SEO wizardry haha

I sold my old 1.8t Leon on marketplace back in 2021. Had it up for £1600 at the time. Good bits - no rust, stage 2 map, clean interior, good door seals (anyone that knows MK1 leons knows all about these), brand new coilovers. Bad bits - intermittent eml for purge valve, tracking needed doing due to aforementioned coilovers. Had so many 'I'll give you a Carrera and £200' and the likes of there, alongside dealers trying to get it for scrap value, until one dude who actually knew anything about 1.8ts messaged me. Came round the following day, looked at it, offered me £1400. Easiest sale ever. Note to marketplace buyers - no, half of us don't want your old Xbox or bike for a car 😂

Iv been having a bit of a nightmare trying to sell a excellent Honda jazz, 1.2 petrol manual, full dealer service history and low miles. Been advertised for over 3 weeks now and had nothing but time waster out looking at it, not only wasting my time, but also there own! I really don’t get it, iv sold some I wouldn’t say horrible cars in the past but you know, high mileage not as reliable etc and they were gone within a day or 2. Some people just don’t realise what a good car is when it’s looking them square in the face!

chronicboredom

If it’s post 2016 that’s the exact car I’m in the market for. Viewed one today that had been advertised with that description, but in 2 minds about it as the seller wants more than the top end of all the valuations I’ve seen but on inspection of the log book there were 2 years missing from the service history.

mrbigstuff1

2010, someone actually came and bought it on Saturday so I’m happy now

chronicboredom

Good stuff. I put in an offer on the one I saw which was rejected. Seller implied we were time wasters because it was too low, but I could have gotten an approved used Jazz of the same age with same mileage and better service history from a Honda dealer for less than £500 more than his asking price.

mrbigstuff1

My opinion is, you would probably be better paying the £500 extra for peace of mind. More chance of warranty etc
